Have you ever cheated on an exam?

This has probably been done before, but I'm wondering how many of us have cheated on a test or exam. Back in university I was shocked at the lengths some people would go to to get a better grade. Maybe I'm naive, but I always thought the time would be better spent studying...

well im not sure if its cheating, but at my college there was copies of old exams in the library to study from..one year the teacher used the exact same exam as a year before.

Never. Although I suppose in junior high/high school I did let a few people cheat off of me. I never let the lazy kids cheat off of me though - only the kids that genuinely had learning problems. Hmmm, does it make it better if you have ethics about cheating?

I did once cut-and-paste part of an essay I had previously written into an essay for another class. I still wrote half of the new essay from scratch, but the cutting-and-pasting was still not legit.

Well...I never cheated in college or university, but I definitely cheated in elementary school (province capitals and roman numerals..what a loser!)

My illustrious career of cheating started and ended in grade 3. We had a daily quiz for our times tables, that we passed to the next student to correct. Our whole table figured out that we could all get perfect scores if we filled in the answers while we were scoring the quizzes! I can't believe our teacher never caught on.

Every time I blank on a mental multiplication calculation I curse our 8-year-old selves for being so cunning.

A couple of us copied off each other in Biology 11 exams. The quizzes we were all given the same test but for the exams he would make 3 different tests so at least 2 people at the table would have the same test. I believe at least 50% or more of that class copied each other.

I also remember writing down a really really complicated math formula in my calculator for a Math 12 exam.

Only in high school, but yeah, I got pretty good at writing really tiny cheat sheets and hiding them in my calculator or something.

I let two guys who went on to play in the NHL cheat off me in biology. I figured being a "C" student they were taking their chances.

I can't actually recall if I cheated or not, you'd think I'd remember it fairly clearly. I always sucked at math, but never had a fancy calculator for it. My parents were "old school"...a basic calculator would do. Never wrote on my hand, too scared of getting caught. Bathroom breaks weren't allowed during exams...or at least I never remember anyone going. Never passed notes, might have whispered with friends for answers but it's not like I hung out with the smart kids. Ok, wait, I wrote on the outside of the instep of my shoe once. I remember doing that. I think for the most part, I was more afraid of getting caught and that's why I might have tried it only once or twice.

College, no way I would have cheated. Getting caught in high school is one thing, getting kicked out of college for that kind of stupidity is another. I was paying to be there..different than having to go to high school.

I was a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE student. I still feel to this day that I have a slight learning disability. If you show it to me, I can touch it, feel it, see it happen, then I get A's. If you tell me to read a paragraph in a textbook and then test me on it, I will fail. This is why I did so well with Labs in science class, but so crappy on the written exams. I was EXCELLENT in cooking/drama/woodworking/PE class but absolutely crap in Math, Socials and for the most part Science. I was pretty good in English though. I think that had lots to do with the teacher.

So ya I cheated all the time on tests.

I cheated on an art exam. Lame, I know but I couldn't remember the list of elements and principles of design. I wrote them on the back of the 'Laurentian' label on my pencil crayons.

same as scuba...at my University lazy profs reuse old exams annually and they were easy to get from friends/older students so most of my posse in the psych program had access to exams for the larger survey courses (1st year, 700+ person classes). Oddly enough, sort of like robbing a small store vs. a company, I felt ok doing that in the large classes in my 1st year, but would never have done it in my really small classes where my teacher knew me etc.

Grade 8 Science, we had a cheating chain - it started with me, then went all the way back the row...eh, they were hot, I had no qualms about it.

I did used to study from old exams in University, but I don't think that really counts as cheating!

I tried to cheat on the grade 3 multiplication tests because my cool dinosaur ruler had the timetables on the back but I just couldn't do it. There was a class reward if we all passed so there was tonnes of peer pressure to just cheat (I had at least a few people pass me cheat notes before the test and tell me how to use them) but I just couldn't. It's actually kinda pathetic, since it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

I have also helped someone cheat by showing her an old test I wrote. She got the same test. I'm not entirely sure it counts since I didn't think they'd reuse the tests (in fact, I was 100% convinced they wouldn't; I guess maybe because I wouldn't, especially when it's an email exam?) but there you go.

I also write on my hand all the time but never to cheat on tests. I have had it examined. Man, watching them searching for a clue in "cookies, milk, go to dance, pick up A., pens!!!" is really funny though.

I honestly can't remember if I ever cheated on anything minor in elementary or high school - it's entirely possible. I never had the nerve to cheat in university or college because both schools had very strict cheating and plagiarism policies and I was too scared I'd get caught. It certainly crossed my mind in university, but I never did it. I probably plagiarised a few things here and there just out of sheer laziness, but never with the actual intention to cheat. I never considered cheating in college because the classes were really small and it was mostly hands-on, independant work - no need.

Only once, in high school.
We had a multiple choice math test, and my friend sitting in front of me would write the answer on the end of her eraser, then pass the eraser to me. I would look at it, then erase my answer if it was wrong (which also got rid of what she had written), then pass the eraser back to her.
She would write a couple answers at a time, and then I would ask to "borrow" her eraser to get them.

I don't know if that even makes sense - it's hard to explain!

I had some friend who cheated off of me in Grade 11 English. The teacher would give us content tests on the books we read. She sat at the front of the classroom and read during each test. They were multiple choice. My friends would just take my scantron and copy the answers off of it.
I know that all through university we studied off of old exams. We had an official exam bank and most profs gave us copies of old exams. I certainly don't consider it cheating. It did make it very easy to predict the form of the exams.

i did a few times... i was a great student all through highschool/college/university, but sometimes, there are not enough hours in the day. i always studied, but sometimes, i'd write in formulas or something in the calculator.

i let people copy my assignments many times. if it helps you, great, as long as it doesn't hurt me/gets me in trouble...

I admit that in university I glanced at my neighbour's exam on a rare occasion and I sometimes put complicated formulas in my calculator. But that was about it. I don't remember ever cheating in high school or elementary, I was too chicken.
