Pity Post

So it was my birthday on Sunday... 29 YIKES!!! And of all the people who sent me birthday love, my own father didn't. Not a phone call, email, nothing.

My dad and I have had a strained relationship since my mom and him divorced when I was 9. He never made an effort to be a part of my life after he moved out. I had my every other weekend visits, which I hated because he would just leave me at his house with his girlfriends kids.

Anyway as I started to get older I thought maybe it was up to me to make the effort so I tried and to no avail. Until last year when I got married. My dad was an absolute wreck at my wedding, he bawled the ENTIRE day. He told me he wished he would have been more of a father to me because he sees how close I am with FIL and he wanted that etc. etc. I thought we were turning a new leaf, but nothing changed.

I know I shouldn't be upset because I have come to expect this from him, but it really gets my goat that my own father couldn't pick up the telephone to call his only daughter/child on her birthday.

I'm sorry frown

I hear you though - I don't think my dad has ever called me, and if he wished me a happy birthday I think I would pass out from the shock.

It sucks, because a father/daughter relationship has so much potential to be wonderful.

I'm so sorry frown

My Mom hasn't called me on my birthday, nor sent me a car in several years frown It hurts a lot. Even though I know to expect this of her, the pain doesn't stop.

Big hugs!

im sorry. i feel your pain. every single year i hope for a different result. frown i called my parents a few years ago:

dad: hello
me: hi dad! it's me!
dad: hi. what's going on. (this was less abrupt than it seems when i write it out, it's actually how he always picks up the phone)
me: i just wanted to call.. it's my birthday!
dad: ok.
me: don't you want to say happy birthday?
dad: happy birthday.
me: you didn't even call?
dad: you shoudl be calling US.
me: that.. that's what i just did.

surprisingly, my dad and i do NOT have a strained relationship. i just dont have a lot of luck with birthdays. my mom gave me folic acid for my 24th, my sister in law gave me cellulite cream for my 25th.

but.. i hear ya.

Hear ya. My parents send cards and gifts to my sister, BIL and DH and I don't even get a phonecall (and haven't for years).

I am sorry.
Is there any way that he was perhaps ill or away (not really a good excuse but still).
That's a shame. But at the end of the day as much as it hurts you it is more his loss than yours because you know what you are missing (someone not "present") and he doesn't realise what he is missing.

Happy belated bday

I go through this daily with my mom. She can talk to my sister 15 times a day who lives with her in the same house. When it comes to me though the last time I talked to her was two Saturdays ago. With one email inbetween. When we do talk it's about my sister, so really I am getting to the point where I just do not care. Oh and I have not received anything for my birthdays for the last two years(she even forgot my birthday before last), and my sister always gets a birthday gift (tires....money) smile
