We went to my SIL's party, had a pretty good time. Dressed up as Zombies. smile Best part of the weekend...making our Zombie costumes! We had soooo much fun doing that. smile

We handed out candy on Sunday night, only had about 25 kids..which means a little bit of chocolate left over. grin

Was a good weekend all in all. Could have been longer though. laugh

Oh, and we FINALLY got news on DH's biopsy for his tumor. That makes me feel a lot better. We've been waiting 2 months and finally found out that his Doc's office was faxing the wrong the place. Had she faxed the right place, he would have been in the week after they found the tumor. Insane. His first appt is this Thursday, next one the following Monday and then biopsy time. I'm so glad I talked to the nurse at work and she told us to take matters into our own hands and call the hospital!!

We didn't really 'do' halloween. Went to a bar for a bit on Saturday, then to a friend's house to play rock band. I rock on drums smile Sunday we handed out candy, LOTS left over.

Tojules, that sounds frustrating! I hope everything works out for your DH!

DH's old apartment, I thought the kitchen was a lovely buttercream colour. Day he moved out I made the mistake of wiping some marks off the one cupboard....they were white! I will give DH the benefit by saying that the people upstairs from him (he was in a basement suite) were heavy smokers (chain smokers)...but wow. I still tease him about that.

I have *no* clue what you guys are talking about. Was Hardy Boys a TV show and not just a book?

I keep meaning to ask you all something, specifically as CFers ... and I keep forgetting it every time I get into this thread. It's on the tip of my tongue, essentially. Bah! Maybe I'll try again later.

On another note, I am seriously exhausted. Since Monday I have slept an average of 4 hours each night. I fall asleep okay, but wake up approx. four hours later and then cannot get back to sleep for the life of me.

I can't seem to shut off my brain and relax. I know why. And in about two weeks my mind will be at ease (can't get into details until then) but holy heck, I can't get by on this little sleep for the next two weeks!

Any tips for beating insomnia? I've tried over-the-counter sleep aids two or three times in my life and each time they make me agitated, then I fall asleep and wake up feeling crappy.

Brady Bunch, Hardy Boys, Partridge Family, Bay City Rollers, watched them all. smile The Hardy Boys was with Nancy Drew too...a combined series. smile I use to love watching it...late 70's.

Gingy, when I can't sleep I usually clean house. laugh When I lived alone cleaning the house at 2am was acceptable, but now running the Dyson apparently at that time makes DH cranky. laugh

Have you tried maybe something like yoga or tai chi before bed? Maybe some herbal teas? Valerian root? A friend of mine used that and said she slept better. I usually do something that drains my energy. I also cut back on coffee/sugar...none of that after 3pm.

Bay City Rollers was a TV show? I thought they were a band that played that song used in Love Actually (Bye, Bye Baby?).

I have discovered my best cure for insomnia is to make sure that the only thing I think about is "I will wake up at 6:50" (or whatever time). I did this once without an alarm clock and woke up exactly the time I wanted to, so now I trust it. It took away the stress of not sleeping because I wasn't saying "Oh, no, I have to get up in three hours!" instead it's "I will wake up then, so why not sleep now? I trust myself to do it (and I have an alarm as backup)."

Of course, it depends on if when you're stressed about things in general you happen to worry excessively about not getting up in time. This is one of the things that will keep me up so that's why it works for me. YMMV.

For work yes, I try to avoid it at all costs but I am off next week so I've had a lot of projects that need to be wrapped up before I go today.

That said I only have a few small things left to do & it's luch time so hiya ladies!

Weekend plans include, sadly putting our pup down (but I am ok with it) and tonight we're off to celebrate Dwali (sp?) with friends who celebrate it. On Sunday we're going out to test drive a new pup. We've fluked out and both managed to be off on Monday so we'll probably get our Christmas shopping & grocery shopping done.

Aqua were not supposed to arrive Diwali dinner until 7pm, who knows what time well start eating at I am worried about being starving too. Luckily its a younger couple that doesnt follow a lot of tradition so jeans & bringing wine to drink are fine. I dont know what to bring my friend though, shes a wine snob so thats out of the question and is allergic to flowers / scents so flowers & candles are out of the picture. Oh well I will figure it out I am sure smile

How was everyone's weekend?

I am working on building a headboard for a king sized bed we plan to buy. I've been one day away from being ready to varnish it for a couple of weeks tongueold. I spent the weekend on it, and now I'm about 1 day away from varnishing it. whistleold

We went to see "Toxic Avenger, the musical" last night with a group of friends. The theater was a warehouse in the process of being converted, so it was horribly uncomfortable, but the show was good, as was dinner before, near the theater.

And tonight I am trying to work on an assignment, yet here I am. tongueold

My weekend was blah. I wasn't really feeling well, I blame it on standing around 10 hrs a day in the snow all last week for work. So it was pretty low key. Today I dragged my butt to Michael's and bought a ton of supplies to make Christmas cards. Sixteen done I think... I probably need to make about 50 though.

BAC her name is Zelda, we thought about changing it but she responds to it so well and if you look up the Legend of Zelda guy wth her ears it's perfect.

DH and I are both off today, this morning he got up at 6:30 to go to the bathroom and left out door open, I sleep with an arm under my pillow, my hand was sticking out, I woke up to my fingers being licked LOL.

So far so good! We're used to Rally (not to compare them too much) who had little to no energy left at the end and she's was mellow since we brought her home so Zelda is an adjustment.

She slept for 12 hours (awesome) but holy smokes our eyes weren't even open and she was prancing around with a play?! face on. Haha.

DH has taken her on a hike it's about 1.5 hours she should be good & tuckered out when they get home. We're very lucky that BC hydro owns the land behind our house and there's a nice path on it so I'll be taking her out there for her afternoon walk.

We really need to work on leash time however. She now has a collar, a choke chain and a halter, I shouldn't say none are working as it's only been a day but... LOL. Next will be a halti if need be. It's a good thing that her adoption fee was only $150 and I think we'll be matching that on apparatus so we can walk our new girl.

RCG - Our pooch is still sketchy on leash with me at least. She's always just too excited on the way out the door to pay much attention.

We were using something called the "Canny Collar" with her and it worked great. Then our good for nothing trainer told us to stop using it. I've got half a mind to dig it back out of the bin.

And yay to Zelda. I think it's a great name!

RCG - Cute new addition, but sorry to hear about Rally frown Emotional weekend for your family!

What did we do?

Saturday DH wanted to get some wood and supplies to start redoing the last crap room in our house (the old owner was a Home Depot manager who got all the clearance stuff, and wasn't much of a handyman) - How someone hangs a wall that crooked is beyond me. So we went into Brockville....we also got Settlers of Catan thanks to the Couples game thread - I really enjoy it with friends, and now we have that and Guitar Hero, both which are popular things to do in one circle of friends.

Then Sunday I posted my normal bird toy ads on the free sites, and got a hit...for someone with a Lemur! Think Madagascar & the ring tailed monkey thing. I had no advice to offer her as to what toys to get for him, and couldn't find much with online searches. She asked about a ferret bed for him, as she has the same complaint my bird customers do about the Happy Huts - my solution, plastic chain in an encasing...I quoted a price as it's something I haven't made previously, and she's good to go.

She also has an aunt (who breeds the Lemurs) who has Wallabies and wants Pouches for when the Joeys are removed from the mom's pouch. Right now she uses purses and satchels, but they're a pain to clean...

So needless to say, with past orders for "normal" small animals, I added a small animal & exotics section to my site, and am working with her to get what she wants. A totally new experience for me, but it's definitely interesting - I miss working with exotics.

That was my weekend smile

Oh, and studied a bit for my CIP and have had major abdominal pains since 11am for some unknown reason. Ugh.

Oh, BAC, we use the prong collars for our boys (I know some people are totally against them, they just need to be taught & used accurately), and they walk pretty good most of the time. Much better than with the harnesses.

I have to admit, my dogs have always been terrible on leashes. D'Argo has a choke collar, and he gets so excited he chokes himself. It's annoying to have to constantly correct him on even a short walk. He's better with DH, off-leash, though, and he gets tired out a lot faster that way.

DH said the trick to getting Zelda to behave on a leash is to wake her up at 4:30am and to walk her for 90 mins. Ha, I guess she was too tired for p!ss and vinegar antics. teeth

Since so many of you are dog owners, can you help me with this as well? When your dog does something "bad" how long do you "yell" at them for?

Zelda keeps getting up on the couch which is a no no in our home. She's done it 2x while I am sitting on it LOL. I have said the following to her:

Zelda Down
That's bad, you're not allowed on the couch
Go to your bed

I not yelling but I am speaking sternly. I think I am calm & assertive when I say this and not aggitated (as I find it really funny that she doesn't seem to be doing it when we're not around but will do it right in front of me) but I don't know how long I should talk to her about it.

Thoughts?
