Do you think you should?

What might you be missing?

What might you be obligated to?

Sometimes I think it would be a responsibility.

Like having to 'deal' with something on the road. If you're not home, miss the call, no big deal.

At the same time I've dug around for change for a phone call and then been cut off because I had to deposit $2 more dollars - WTF???

Shouldn't that lone phone booth be feeling lucky and appreciative that I (or maybe Milly) is paying some attention to it? In this day and age?

Milly - are you going to get one? I have no plans.

I don't have a cell phone. The only reason I am seriously considering one is because I'm working all kinds of hours right now, and often drive home on our back country roads at 2 or 5am.

I reallllllly want an iPhone, but can't justify the cost. My phone will be simple, talk and maybe text.

My mom doesn't. I think she likes it when she's out of the house with no one calling her asking her how to make a certain recipe or how long it takes to boil an egg... It's annoying when I need an answer ASAP wink

Nope. I have enough addictions I don't need something else to wean myself off of.

Anyone who's important know where I can be reached pretty much 24/7. My family have my work number if they can't get me at home and it's an emergency. We don't have kids so I'm not worried about missing their calls. If one or the other of us is out and we realize we need something, well then, we're sh! out of luck and we have to go get it ourselves.

It's been four years without one and I really like being able to be 'off the grid' if I want to.

Physically yes I do have one...however, I have no idea where it is except it is in this house somewhere...haven't seen it since late March/early April...even when I did "use" it - I only turned it on when I had to use it or expected a call....

Cellphone: yes a basic one

Blackberry: Nope, and I won't get one either. I refuse! They don't call them "crackberries" for nothing! wink I do not feel the need to be connected to the world/my world 24/7.

I have a Blackberry, although I admit that the ringer is only on when I'm expecting an important call. That's probably once or twice a month. If you try to reach me on my cell any other time, tough luck. Drives some of my friends/family crazy- especially MIL who is a cell phone addict and is constantly on hers (which in turn drives US nuts).

I like the security of having a cell and the convenience (e.g. if I'm grocery shopping and I need to call FH to ask him if we have a certain item). But I don't like having people call me whenever and wherever (hence why my ringer is almost always off).

FH is recently cell phone free. He loves it, though I miss the convenience of being able to reach him when he's not home.

I have a cell for work purposes only. It has text capabilities, but I have that feature turned off. It is used for phone calls (and very few of them at that!) only.

No blackberry or other such device.

Heck, I'm not even on FB! rofl

I have an android and I LOVE it. Not just for internet/facebook/aps etc. I love being able to take photos whenever I want. My kid is doing something funny while we are at the library - I can take a photo bc I have my phone on me! I see a fox running across the street on my morning walk - I take a photo! I see a famous celebrity/politician - no worries, I can take a photo! I love my phone mainly for this feature... ok, and I am addicted to the Facebook and other apps. whistle

I just got one a few months ago at the insistence of everyone around me because of my long commute to work (the kids commute with me) for emergency purposes. I never use it. Its not even charged half of the time. I just have no need for it, I'm usually at work or at home, both places where I have a phone. If I'm not at work or at home then chances are I'm probably too busy to talk to you! smile

DH just got his first cell phone a year ago because his company required him too. It is the most basic flip phone and they foot the bill.

I too just got a basic flip phone recently. It is always off and only used when absolutely necessary. I have pay as you go plan. No text. The only reason I got one was one day I was very sick, had a hard time driving home with DD and when I got home my land line wasn't working since it is through cable and things were down. I had to knock on my neighbors door and use her cell to reach DH since I wasn't able to properly care for DD. So now I
have one just in case.

I will always have a land line. If you want to reach me leave a message or send me an email. I don't understand the need to always be in constant contact with people. It bothers me watching teenagers hang out together without interacting. All they do is text or surf the net talking to other people. It's really weird and I find it rude. However, it is becoming the social norm.

Husband and I were out to eat once next to a table full of people. He pointed it out to me - every single person was sitting there texting, not speaking to one another.

We made it funnier making up things they were texting to EACH OTHER! ha ha ha ha

My daughter drives me batty - she can't even watch a movie with me without it; whats worse is she says she can do both. What a world.

I have a regular cell phone with texting. Bought it for emergencies and it's come in handy to make quick calls while on the road/out and about. Pay phones are so rare...have you ever tried to find one? I did in downtown Toronto when my cell died and I was supposed to meet up with my hubby that night. Finally found one and didn't realize it cost an exhorbitant amount to make a freaking local call!!

Anyhow, I don't need my phone to play music, games, videos, etc. That's what my iPad is for. whistleold

I don't have a cell phone. Don't need it. Too expensive, too much of a waste of time.

Sorry to offend anyone reading who does have a cellphone, but I think texting is the lamest invention. JUST CALL THE PERSON!! I can remember using msn to talk to my now husband in university and even there, where you can type properly, a conversation takes FOREVER. We would always end up calling each other. Basically the only purpose msn ended up serving was to say "Are you busy? Can I call you?" I can't imagine texting, where you can only use two fingers on this tiny screen.

And what are people texting about? I see people texting away furiously all the time, and I wonder, what can you possibly be talking about? I hate it when you're with a group of people and someone starts texting another person. Ok, so you're not a part of the conversation anymore? Ok, bye.

DH and I both have them but only because we get them for free from work. If we didn't then I highly doubt we'd have more than just one basic one to use while going out. DH goes for long bike rides and I like knowing he at least has his phone should anything happen (which it has a few times).

I've had a cell phone pretty much since I got my own place... Mom's a wee bit paranoid about safety and the ability to call for assistance without having to try to find a pay phone and $0.50 first.

I think I sent my first text about 2 years ago. I still barely used the phone.

Blackberry: Didn't have one for the longest time. Didn't see the point... I mean, I think in my busiest month I used 12 minutes of air time and sent 15 text messages. But DH had one, and wanted me to have one so we could use BBM (like free texting) and email when away from computers for somewhat urgent things. I couldn't justify the cost (even without data it was a significant increase over my pay-as-you-go), but a couple of weeks ago, DH got me one and said he'd pay the difference, so now I've got a blackberry. Boggles my mind.

I have had one since I was 15 or 16.

We don't have a land line, so we both have cells (well, iPhones). I don't NEED an iPhone, but I love it. I love being able to take a quick picture even if I don't have my camera with me. I love being able to look up the ferry schedule/how much room is left (or anything else on the internet). I love the googlemaps app (use this all the time!).

No blackberry but I do have a cell. I've had a cell for about 10 years now. I mostly use it for texting, it's very rare that I actually make calls on it.

I have contemplated getting a blackberry for work as there are times when I'm travelling when it would be really handy. At the same time, I'm not sure if I want to be that available to work!

I have just a basic flip phone from 3-4 years ago. It's pay-as-you-go and I use it just for emergencies and the odd text. I'm hesitant to text much now though as they just jacked the rates on it.

I sort of have one - actually I have 2. Both are inactive and even when they were active they were inactive. They're old school flip-phones from pre-2006.

I don't see the need for one unless I was driving alone or with DD a lot which I'm not. I kind of like going shopping and DH not being able to reach me. On the other hand I LOVE DH having one so I can reach him! wink

I have a basic pay as you go flip phone that is a few years old. I generally only use it for emergencies or if I am out and need to reach home. I can send texts, but never have - the only texts I receive are from the phone provider letting me know when my account has been updated (i.e. minutes added). I think I can access the web with it, but don't know how. I didn't even want a camera on the phone, but when I got my current phone to replace my previous basic one (after it broke) I was told that wasn't an option anymore. So it also has a camera, but I rarely use it either.

Years ago when I had a contract, it was the biggest waste of money for me. I think it took me approx. a year to use the number of minutes my plan actually covered each month!

I have no real interest in getting a better phone any time soon. DH recently got a blackberry for work and has become quite attached to it (even though he swore it wouldn't happen).

I only have an old-school flip phone that can text (though it doesn't have a qwerty keyboard so it's super-annoying) that I hardly ever use, and I won't be buying a smart phone any time soon. People are their smart phones are easily my biggest pet peeve (these days anyway), though I'll stop here since this could start me out on a giant rant.

DH insists and bought me one (Merry Christmas. Woooha!). I admit I do think about turning it on when I'm travelling around the province for work (rare!), but otherwise, the poor thing lies around without charge or $$ most of the time.

He doesn't understand why. I say. When I am out I:

1. Have 2 kids demanding every second of my time. I'm not thinking about anything that requires a phone. And I don't have a spare finger to text.
2. If I don't have the kids, I want to be left the heck alone! (and I have a landline at work.)

So there. I have one, but not by choice or necessity.
