 Port Huron, MI

Dh and I have a few days off next week and are going to head stateside. We thought having been to Buffalo NY and Erie PA before, we'd try out Port Huron.

So we understand that most of the places we want to go are on one main road ... but we could use some advice on where to stay, fav places to eat, places we need to go.

All advice is welcome!

This is where we often go for a few days of retail therapy, mainly because it's so close.

We typically stay at the Hampton Inn because we enjoy Hampton hotels, but I know people have stayed at the Best Western and liked it.

It's certainly not a huge place, but we honestly find some of the best deals at their Target and Kmart. The Kmart is not on the main road though it is tucked away in another part of the city, about 5 min away from everything else. We usually eat the the Olive Garden, because they're delicious! lol

Port Huron is pretty small/lame. Why not go to Detroit?

Port Huron is pretty small, not much to offer aside from shopping, and I've only ever eaten at Olive garden ... wait, there was one other place, but I can't remember what it was called LOL

If you wanna do something besides shop I'd probably go to Detroit, there are some fun things to do there.

Thanks for the suggestions! We are not set in stone yet, we just have the dog booked in her 'holiday place' and the time off work, so we are still pretty open to suggestion!

And thanks Milly smile Its so true. And in actuality, if you saw me running, you might even call the ambulance wink

I live in Michigan, and am wondering why in the world anyone for stop in Port Huron as part of a vacation. Lol! Detroit is okay if you want to go to something specific there-like the museum or one of the tasty tasty restaurants. Just be careful.

If you are thinking shopping and don't want to do Detroit, I would go to Saginaw and to the Birch Run Outlets, especially if you only have a day or two.

Port Huron isn't anything special. I would drive the extra 45 minutes and go to Troy and Auburn Hills. Auburn Hills has the Great Lakes Crossing outlet and Troy has the Somerset Collection mall. When we go, we tend to stay at either the Embassy Suites or Drury Inn in Troy.
