Good Church things - whats your fav?

I was thinking today about the one song we sing every week in Church, and how it often gets stuck in my head, but I don't mind, since it's upbeat and thankful and cheerful. I have a few "Fav things" about the service this week, I thought I'd share, and ask for what you enjoy the most.

If you go to church every week, just on holidays, or maybe every now and then for a wedding or a baptism, and have something that you enjoy the most, share it! smile

My favs:
- Thankful Hearts - sung every week after communion
- the benediction and sending

We are in the midst of perhaps finding a new church so we were weren't at our home church yesterday but my faves normally are the music and the fellowship.
We talk to our friends all week long anyway and do try to get together but if we don't we know we'll see them on Sunday smile
Yesterday at the new church my fave was the message. It was about faith!

We don't go regularly but when we do go I look forward to hymn singing. Especially when we do a song I remember from childhood. smile

When I was a kid the best part about church was spending time with my grandpa.

Today, it's the ambiance. The feeling of family and closeness and support. Sadly, this is disappearing, especially in the larger cities.

We only go at Christmas and we go to the church I grew up in. I enjoy seeing all of my childhood friends who are either home for the holidays or visiting their parents on Christmas Eve...

We usually attend the family mass at our chruch and I love how involved our Priest gets the kids in things. He really brings the Homily to their level and will sometimes use puppets to get the points across.

Great post! smile

I love the worship part of our service. We have a great band, and our songs are upbeat and contemporary such as:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smEWmDYPYH0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CifJ8kbRJs

Somtimes we have a special speaker; sometimes we have baptisms and baby dedications.

Also on Wednesday nights, we have family night. So from 6-7 pm we have pizza and from 7-8 pm we have the option of doing a bible study course (several to choose from).

I love our church, it's big but when you're in it, it feels small!

My favorite thing about my Church is definitely the feeling of family. I was just saying yesterday how when I have this baby, I would trust him with any one of the people there.

I also love the traditional aspect of it. We sing five hymns during the service - never worship 'pop' songs and I love that aspect of it.

There are so many other things I love about my Church organization as well, but I don't feel as if this is the place to do it. I just love going - it makes me feel at peace and is a true recharge for my spriritual battery.

My mom died when I was in high school, and sometimes when a hymn is sung that I remember from when I was a kid, I swear I can hear her singing *sniff*

I am not a practising Catholic, but was when I was younger. I just don't feel that strongly about it now to go to church or even pass it down to my children (on a weekly basis). My Grandmother has always had a very strong faith. She always taught me all about St Francis of Assisi, I even went to Assisi when I travelled Europe.

So this Prayer of St Francis is my favourite. This was played last week at my Grandmother's funeral as it was her favourite. I don't think I'll ever hear it without remembering her and crying a bit.

I love the feeling I get when we go to church every week. It may seem corny but I can truly feel the love of god when we are all gathered.

i love the messages that the pastor brings each week. It seems like each one speaks to me. I have renewed faith since starting to go again almost a year ago. Ive learned how to truly love, how to forgive and how to find peace. I look forward to it every single week.

Also, at our church we sing great uplifting songs with a full band and its just such a great bonding experience for my husband and I. My son absolutely loves going to Sunday school too.

I love hearing everyone's fav things smile It's good that everyone gets a lot out of it, and all for different reasons.

I love a lot of the other things that everyone else has mentioned too, especially the sense of family, trust, and warmth from everyone in the congregation. DH grew up in this church, and I was the same demonination, just a different church in a different town. Everyone there knows Chris from forever, and has welcomed me too.

And our pastor is younger, unmarried but dating a really nice girl, and we have become good friends with them. DH and PJ are football buddies smile

Well for starters my priest is quiet funny and he likes to tell stories that actually have good relevance, and I find it helps people pay attention during mass.

I love the Hymns though, so beautiful I love singing them. It actually bugs me when I go to a different Church then my home one and they change the way the Hymn has been sung for decades to have it more "upbeat". But that is just me. I noticed this at a church I went to for my friend since I was her sponsor so she could have her confirmation, they changed all the sounds of the hymns and made them into pop songs. I really did not like it.

As a music minister... I love that so many of you mention the music as something you love smile

For me... One of my favourite things is watching our associate pastor talking to the kids before they head off for their own Liturgy of the Word, he jokes around with them and asks them questions... and just looks like an overgrown kid himself, 'cuz he's having so much fun.

Beyond that, our parish needs a serious shake-up *sigh*

I also love church!!! Our church always starts by everyone holding hands along the aisles and a prayer before the worship service. I feel such unity. And then when the music is going, just watching everyone praise God, it's a good feeling being involved in that!

My pastor is so dynamic, he truly is a genius at speaking and has a way of reaching out to everyone. I've never not liked a sermon of his!

I love the worship. Our church has incredible musicians, and it starts the service off on such an amazing note (pardon the pun).

For music my fave song is:

I've seen good things in church and some things I don't like but I feel so comfortable at a catholic church. It is weird that they've changed some "language" now...growing up we went daily. I could receipt the entire service by rote. Just made it feel like home.

I can't explain it and don't be offended but I can't take communion from a lay person. To me you must be ordained. I always jump out if i'm in the wrong line!

My church had a year book and everyone who wanted to could have a pic and a brief blurb about themselves. It was such a great way to get to know other parishoners.
