I did this last week - I had OPI Russian Navy on all my fingers except my ring finger - I put a silver sparkle (China Glaze - not sure what color) .... Apparently my peeps don't follow Pinterest - they all looked at me like I was growing a second head

I've got maybe 6 bottles of Essie? 4 are nude/bridal type pink colors? I hate them!! They go on like "liquid paper" - so streaky and thick - don't like them at all. The two dark shade that I have - I love! So obviously a different formula for the different shades.

I just ordered my first Julep Maven box- I decided on Bombshell simply because I wanted the orange to match a dress I just bought for vacation, haha. I received a code by email to get the box for $0.01 so it will definitely be worth it smile I could definitely see myself wearing the glittery gold on my toes for a night out. This is what I'm getting:

I bought "Got a date to-knight" tonight. It took 3 coats, but I like it! It's a little more bright and a little less baby pink in person. Maybe it's because of the 3 coats, but one was verrrry light and 2 was more like the below picture, but still not quite as covered.

Where did you get the code? How do I get one?
Did you do the year subscription? I told DH I'd like the 3 month sub for mother's day.

Does anyone know if the Julep partnership with Sephora means their polishes will be available in Sephora stores up here, too?

Oh... and I got 2 of the St. Paddy's day boxes (the second one I ordered on a whim 3 days after the first... and it ended up being one of the Big Boxes!)... and the Spring mystery box, too (again, I'm getting 2 thanks to DH... they should be arriving middle of next week).... I think I've got a 'problem' rofl

I'm wearing one of the April colours right now... Reese, I think? A slightly greyish lavender creme.

I've been painting my nails pretty regularly since Christmas, but lately I've noticed them starting to peel (since the weather has been nice, from gardening, biking etc). Anybody have any product recommendations? I never use a base coat, should I?

I've found using a good base coat and top coat helps a ton. I recently got the Essie No Chip top coat and the OPI for Sephora base coat and for the two weeks where I used both, I got way more wear out of the polish before it started to chip.

Before that I was a using a Sally Hansen nail strengthener base and it was chipping the same day. And I've found some polishes peel more than others (the gold sparkle Julep one, for instance).

Jasey... it's probably that your nails are drying out. I'd suggest:
- never file or cut your nails while they're wet (immediately after a shower, for example)... similarly, don't do it right before a shower. You know how, if you get the edge of a book wet the pages puff up and the book becomes 'thicker'? Same thing can happen with nails.

- seal the exposed edge of your nail when you apply your polish

- use a different polish remover (some of them are really harsh on natural nails... go for an acetone-free formula, and try for one for 'dry/brittle' nails while you're being more active with your hands)

- cuticle oil. Not just for cuticles any more wink If you leave a narrow band of exposed nail at the nail-bed end when you apply your polish, your cuticle oil will help nourish your nails, too... apply every day or two.

- gloves when you're gardening. It'll help protect them from nicks, tears, and the dirt that inevitably leads to a lot of hand-washing. Or when you're working in 'drying' conditions (like if you do a lot of filing, or are otherwise handling a lot of paper in a day... it can suck the moisture right out of your hands... and your nails)

- avoid antibacterial soap if you can, and if you can't, use lotion regularly. AB soap is really drying.

- folic acid

Or you can use my grandmother's method.... winegums. 3-5 per day. The gelatin in them is great for nails. wink

So, I hopped on the Essie wagon since I HAD to have the Tourquise & Caicos for my toes. I'm loving the colour, but I'm not a fan of the Essie brand. I don't like how that polish goes on at all. And two coats took f.o.r.e.v.e.r. to dry. I don't have that kind of time. I will happily pay an extra buck and stick with Opi or the cheaper Sally Hansen/Revlon etc.

Does anyone know if Opi (or another brand) makes a colour similar to Essie's School of Hard Rocks?

For the folks who wanted to know how to get the first Julep Maven box for $0.01, you can also use code PENNY at checkout (I've seen this one in banner ads on a variety of sites as recently as 3 minutes ago... so it's still current wink )

And if anyone is feeling generous, PM me for my referral link wink (in the interests of transparency: for every 2 referrals who join, members get a free month)

Shoppers has it, but it's cheaper at Walmart. I also noticed Walmart has the seasonal colours that I can't get at my Shoppers.

I finally got my April Julep Maven box on Tuesday. I was getting ready to email Julep to report it as lost. That was the slowest delivery ever.

Where do people buy OPI online? Or Shellac? I'd also like to get a UV light to cure them as I never, ever have the patience to wait for it to dry. Any ideas on where I can go to find any of these things online?

Got my first Julep box today - love the colours! Not sure if I can pull off the mega green but I might give it a whirl when on vacation, etc. smile

And I LOVE Essie. I rarely use light colours of any brand so can't comment on the number of coats needed, but their darker colours are gorgeous and I like their shorter brush (I have super small nails).

As for base coat, yes, you NEED base coat if you're going to be keeping polish on for any period of time. And don't hesitate to use the rapid dry top coats - Essie and OPI both make great ones - they really cut down the drying time huge. And still give good longevity.

My Julep boxes generally take about a week to get to me. If I get the notification that it's shipped on a Monday, I usually get the box Tuesday of the following week (although my Spring Mystery Box was a day later... notification last Monday, got the box yesterday)

My first box took over a month, but that was out of the ordinary. The past few months have taken about 2 weeks to ship.

Canada post has a hate on for me, though. I blame them more than Julep.

I got my first Julep box and I like it. The purple is more of a softer purple than the picture but I actually like it better that way. Next month looks so great I want every style. I think I'm going to go with bombshell this month because I love coral but boho would be my second choice.

It's a good question, DLR... I don't know, but I do know that SJM specifically mention referral codes under the advertising section of the rules, and the last Admin, when asked about the "vote for me" stuff that was taking over the forums said that they were ok.

So, my BFF was in town visiting from the UK and we got to celebrate my bday together for the first time in like 10 years and she bought me the most wonderful Chanel vernis, called Blue Boy. I love it, it's a grey blue, very sexy.

It's the darker blue here.

I'm also very tempted to sign up to Julep. I'm apparently Boho Chic, after taking the quiz, but I don't know if I should fuel my polish addiction any more...I have bought 4 new polishes in the last month blush

Including this one on Monday, Essie's Orange it's Obvious!

So ...I took the beauty profile quiz and apparently Im an american beauty .... except I don't like the colors they have me pegged for. So I went back and did the quiz again. And they still have me as an american beauty!!! I tweaked a few answers that I was on the fence about. Guess I should go back and completely answer incorrectly??? American beauty is kind of boring .... ie. pale pink/blush??? I have more pale pink/blush polishes that I never wear because they are boring!!

Julep has me as a Bombshell, which is great and all. But this month I swapped for It Girl. It originally had me as an American Beauty and I took it again and got Boho. I figure I'll have to pick every month since there are a bunch in so many different areas that I like.

I just swap my profile month by month now based on what they're offering. And I LOVE that they let us do this! Makes it that much more appealing across the board.

I went with It Girl again this month and added on the colour Sarah because I loved the coral so much. Can't wait!

I think that page is broken in the profile

At the bottom of your email, on the right it says, WANT TO... try a new style? And it takes you to your Julep profile. Normally at the bottom of the page there's all the different ones to scroll through and they're not there. At least in my browser they're not. But on that page is where you would select your current default box in the dropdown on the right and then the box you want to switch to.

You can view the May boxes here: https://www.facebook.com/julep/app_292890760750318

When I filled out the questionnaire to start Julep Maven, I had American Beauty as my default but chose It Girl instead, as I didn't want the colours in American Beauty. smile

Thanks for the Julep May preview! I think the colors are so much better than April boxes.

I still signed up (to get my box for a penny- thanks for the coupon code!). I got ''It girl'' because I preferred the extra nail polish (3 instead of 2 bottles in the other boxes). None of the April boxes were WOW to me, though.

I would have used one of the referral codes from a girl in this thread, but I found out that one of my friends/colleague is a Julep member, so I used hers.

Did anyone get the Julep Spring Mystery box? I'm really disappointed since my was almost exactly the same as the St Patrick's Day Box...the only difference was a bright pink polish instead of the weird green one but every single other polish and product was the same. I'm not very happy that I spend $20 on it frown

I got two of the Spring boxes... mine were similar, but not the same as each other... or the St. Pat's box I got (other than every single one of them included "Melissa" *laugh*). I'm just trying to figure out what the heck I can put over the "Hayden" to tone down the neon peach-ness of it. (one box was "Melissa", "Hayden", "Helena", top coat & cuticle oil with a Julep emery board... the other was "melissa", "Sienna", "Anne" (I think), basecoat, cuticle oil & Julep emery board.... I'd have to look up the St. Pat's one, but it was at least 2 different colours and some samples of glycolic hand scrub & something else with a crystal file)
