 Forums switching to Canadian family?

  1 2 3 4 5  ...
Has anyone else noticed the new message at the top of the main forum page about baby bells, health and fitness, misc ect moving to a different forum? You can freak out in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 go!

I'm a little confused if we have to go to two different forums ( ie the direct links information at the end of the statement) or if it will be like the first part of the statement that says it will look the same as it does now!

It potentially will change our demographic... From us odd balls who got married and never left to newbies specifically showing up to talk families.

It'll make more sense when I say "I was reading on the Canadian Family forums that.....{blah blah something to do with kids/babies" rather than explaining WeddingBells to people!

Will there still be a link on this site? What about everyone who gets married and starts having kids? Will they know where to go?

Also, do we keep our profiles or do we have to start new ones? Will there be no more Queens of the Forum or Raving Lunatics?

ETA: nevermind. Reading notices helps greatly.

Personally, I will feel a lot less loser-y hanging out at CF vs. WB since my wedding planning days ended 7 years ago. I will still be a loser, but to a lesser degree thumbsup I also enjoy change and think this will be a prime time to change my name. I haven't done that in ages.

I am not surprised they did this. This is a supposed to be site for weddings which I think gets overwhelmed by all the parents. I did get married using Weddingbells 10 years ago when it was a very small site. And now I never help the new brides out anymore because I feel out of the loop. I think what happens is you get married and then move down to the family section. Seems like most move down there eventually.

I also notice that there are many good Parenting Magazines that are Canadian. None have been able to establish a successful parenting forum. This the best one other than us I think and it is dead. So I am not surprised a major parenting magazines decided to take over our forum. Much easier to acquire a successful forum than to try and start one.

But somehow through all this I wish some of the sections like miscellaneous would be open to both the wedding and baby sides. I don't think it will be the same split up.

Essentially, the forums are not being split between two sites. You can still find whatever sub-forum on WB (like Misc), but clicking on it will take you to CF. The posts will still be there and they will still be the same. Sub-forums are "open" to both sites as they are both direct linked to the same place. Does that make sense?

I find the move of Craft Corner weird also. Not many non-wedding planners go in there, do they? It's mostly centerpieces and invites and the like.

Can I still call Canadian Family 'WBs' in short form? Because that's like my husband trying to tell me to call him by a different nick name. Sorry buddy, the name when I met you will be your name FOREVER!

What about travel/honeymoon?

I'm worried this will result in segregating too many like-minded people. Especially When you're looking for a variety of input.

I like having a "misc." where the soon-to-be marrieds can interact with the married-for-15-years.

I'm also wondering how it will affect latest posts and today's active topics.

I also think this will be a turn off for those who do not have kids/ trying tp have kids despite the claim that "family" encompasses everyone.

The only thing I'll miss is the Etiquette section because sometimes I check that out for entertainment but from LadyA's description sounds like the link will be right there anyways. And if people who stumble onto WB see all the links for CF they will likely check them out as well. I mean when I first found WB I stuck primarily to the wedding sections and it was only after I started venturing to other areas. Wouldn't that still happen?

Sadly I think they are missing out on one wedding componet...I get all my information NOT from brides planning their weddings but from all of you that have "been there done that."

I get what they are trying to do, but I also think it will really change the dynamic of the wedding boards. Who is going to be there to ohh and ahh over my wedding when it finally happends? don't think I am not posted that all over the new boards.

That is what I worry about in the great split. For me, I love getting real advice, from real brides, who have gone through it.

I have no issues with moving to a new site but I have a question:

- will the forum become available only on the 5th? I went to their site and I can't see a forum link.

- will we just log in there on the 5th morning and hope for the best?

The way I read it, you won't even notice the change. I'm guessing when you're looking at First Steps and then want to go to Home Life, the Hop To option is still there at the bottom of the page, you just get sent to a different URL, not like you have to re-login to a different forum or something.

I just won't ever have to say "So there was this thread on Wedding Bells today.." again.

I gotta say, Canadian Family is a lame name. I don't have or want kids, but I know I'm in the minority for both around here.

This change makes sense. It's all about advertising.
The new URL link will allow for new advertisers on the specified boards.

Since I've have been married for years; I am not a good target for gowns/registries/florists ads.

*taps on screen* Ahem - um, people who are paid by St. John's Media??? Are you there? Actually reading this???? (Not bloody likely on Friday on a long weekend, but I digress...)

It's pretty lame that you announce such a major change to a tight knit community that has been a daily part of people's lives for years and leave it to the unpaid and vastly under appreciated bunch of women who actually run this page-view getting cash cow of yours to try to answer questions and quell the uproar.

OLD Admin would have been here with bells on answering everything as best he could. But apparently that's too much to ask now a days.

Anyone else feel like all the neighbourhood kids, your friends are off to junior high and you are still stuck in elementary?? It's not like we don't all play together....

Just because I might be getting married later in life does not mean that I am can not fully relate to all the other aspects of the forum. I am the same age of many of the mommies, and I think splitting the forum might also create a bit of an age gap.
