 Turning 30 - Party!!! Theme?

We are in the beginning stages of planning a birthday party for me! I turn 30 on April 30th, and am pretty excited about it!

We were talking with friends last night, and he mentioned his perfect party - a baseball theme - hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn, baseball cards, teams, everything. Sounds like an easy way to make a party about something that is important.

As much as I like baseball, or hockey, I'm not interested in either of those as a party theme.

So what else? I'm totally coming up blank for ideas. I know that YOU don't know what my interests are, but what parties have you been to, fun parties with food and decorations and a theme that works - or what would your perfect party be?

I'm not a big drinker, and I'm not a fan of beer at all...

I think you have to start with an interest or a hobby. Do you like to read, cook, garden, do you love animals or do you sew or craft, or collect anything? Once you identify a 'favorite' - then just build from there(or we all can come up with more suggestions) smile

Seeing as it's your champagne birthday, why not make the theme champagne and drink a bottle of bubbly?

Sorry, I don't really like themes, so I'm not that creative with them...

When my friend turned 30 her theme was 9th Grade. We had to come dressed up as we did in 9th grade. It was GREAT! Everyone invited participated in dressing up. I found my whole outfit at Value Village. I know not everyone wants to have to go buy an outfit to go to a party that they will most likely never wear again but it was totally worth it and really fun!

Do you have a favourite movie or TV show? That might make an easy theme.

I just had a star trek themed 30th b-day party for FH. He loves star trek but most of the people attending did not know anything about the show (including me!). I ran the idea by our friends to see how receptive they were to the idea. Most people that attended did attempt some sort of costume which was awesome and we had lots of decorations and themed food and drinks.

Also, in the past I have been to Hawaiian themed and 80's parties which were both fun. I would recommend talking to your friends to see what they think of your idea before cause in the end it should be fun for you and your guests ;-)

what about your favourite tv show, similar to the Star Trek party?

Mad Men - suits and gorgeous dresses (banana republic, H&M, modcloth)

How I Met Your Mother - serve chicken wings (angel wings) with dipping sauce, have an all you can eat hot dog contest, other pub food, maybe get a goat.

Glee - cheerleading outfits, awesome jackets... serve individually polished grapes, breadsticks, cheerios, brownies (special or the regular variety), tater tots, saltwater taffy, sara lee cake.

I had a favourite things party this year - everyone had to bring five of the same item costing $6 or less - one went to me as the birthday girl, and the others were drawn for. Everyone left with four presents for them! I also asked everyone to bring their favourite appy or dessert.

I did a Geek-Themed party and it was, if I may say so, TOTALLY AWESOME. Featured many things geek-y (like me).
