After eating, eat some more.

I would go to a Yankee game, go to a show on Broadway, central park, shop...

Oh my list is endless.

Broadway show! I liked 'top of the rock' for views, and central park for strolling. Sofitel hotel was nice, with a decent location.

Well, a nice hotel in "central" manhattan will easily run you $250+. I always use priceline but check expedia and booking.com first to see if you find something you like. In terms of "area", anything in midtown will be good. Generally speaking I would say anywhere south of Central Park and north of wall street (though I've stayed there before and will be staying there again, because it's cheaper.. but I've been to NYC many times)

Time Square is a nice choice, but it could get very noisy at night, but it is a very central location. I think I stayed at the Westin there once (probably $300/night)

I'd look at Hotwire as well. Total shot in the dark at to what you're booking but as long as the area is good, I'd go for it.

I always look at the hotel deal sites and then compare...usually you can cancel without penalty up to a certain point for most hotels, just read the print!

Hotels.com, expedia.ca, booking, etc.

Also try this, they are toll free, take all the info into account and then suggest hotels they work with:

http://www.newyorkcityluxuryhotels.com/

I prefer to stay anywhere from central to upper east side, haven't really stayed elsewhere. Definitely do everything everyone mentioned if you can...visit the TKTS booth for cheap day of Broadway and off-Broadway tickets - I suggest the one down by the water - there's the Brooklyn Bridge and shopping down there as well, the lineups are way less than the booth in Times Square.

Go shopping!! Century 21 - they have one downtown but they recently opened a location in midtown!! Lots of cheaper brand names.

Go have dinner and dessert in Little Italy, on the way there in the Bowery area there's shopping as well.

If you walk around the Fashion district - and like purses - you can go into some stores selling cheap purses. Most of the shops don't do this as they're wholesale but you can find some that do and there are some great steals!

I'm going next month again and can't wait!!

My brother stayed at the Millenium Broadway Hotel. He really liked it, great location, too. I don't know how expensive it was or anything, but I know that he could see Times Square from his room smile

We just spent three nights at the Casablanca Hotel in Times Square. With an interior room, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop at night. The service was amazing and we had free wine and cheese every evening before heading out for the evening. smile It's rated #1 on Trip Advisor for good reason!

I suggest checking out the Nolita (north of Little Italy) neighbourhood. Great restaurants and character, and a nice way to take a break from the bustle of Times Square. We did a food tour that was so much fun and a good way to learn about the area. http://www.zerve.com/FoodTours

You can try using hotwire and priceline for cheap hotels, just google the hotel details and you should be able to narrow it down to 2-3 hotels (I use these sites for 90% of my hotels and have never been disappointed).

Check out:
- Top of the rock and NBC tour
- Central Park (DH and his roommate rented bikes one day and they loved it)
- Times Square (day and night)
- Broadway Show (if you don't have a preference for a show go to the 1/2 off boxes the day of)
- MACY'S in Herald Square (I was exhausted after shopping there) and all the stores on 5th Ave
- Statue of Liberty
- Brooklyn Bridge
- The Met (if you are into museums)
- EAT! I've only been to a few restaurants in Manhattan (ate mostly in Brooklyn) but the food is so good. I loved the street meat and bagels.

If you have time def go to a Yankees game, I have never been to NYC during baseball season.

Have fun!

My favourite parts of our trip to NY were Central and Battery Parks, the day we spent in Brooklyn (we went to Coney Island, walked around near the water, and then over the Brooklyn Bridge - we did Lower Manhattan this day, as well), and going to a Broadway show. The next time we go I definitely want to spend more time in Brooklyn and see more then one Broadway show during the time we're there.

Other things we did: went to a Yankee's game, went to the Museum of Natural History (we loved this but you need a full day to really appreciate it!), walked around Soho, Time Square (of course!), Top of the Rock... I can't even remember everything, haha!

Oh, and we stayed at The Strand on W 37th St. and loved it - it has a roof top bar with gorgeous views of the Empire State Building and breakfast was included.

If you're into museums and intend to see the statue of liberty I recommend the city pass.

You get cheaper entry (45% off ticket prices) into the following:
Empire State Building
American Museum of Natural History
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art)
Guggenheim Museum OR Top of the Rock
Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island OR Circle Line Cruise

Also, you don't have to wait in any lines to purchase tickets into those places while you're there. Depending on the time of year, you can wait an hour or more to buy tickets for attractions like the Empire state building.

I've used city passes for NY, Chicago and Boston. I love their deals. However, you have to buy them them prior to leaving, but you can use them anytime for 9 days after first use upon arrival.

OH! OH! Stay at the Chelsea Lodge! It's not a luxury hotel or anything, but the price is great, the staff are nice, it's clean and comfortable and the location is great! And NYC is so amazing you're not going to spend much time at your hotel anyway. laugh

LOVE NYC - so jealous!!!
