I think it's great! I wish BFing was much more acceptable in public in north America.
I think it's great, too. Kudos to them for having the balls to do it. (If it's real. After reading the article linked there seems to be question that the ad is not real.)
Breastfeeding needs to be normalized.

I find it gross, personally.
I have no problem when people breast feed in public, if covered. Sorry, but I don't randomly like to see a stranger's boob. Whether its in a sexual context or not (as in breast feeding). No thanks.
I would say the same if (and sorry if my analogy fails here) men could do the equivalent of breast feeding with their penis. Dude, keep that [censored] covered!

I have no issue with BF'ing but I don't like seeing a strangers boob/nipple.
They airbrushed her boob to make it look better (and make her nipple look smaller). One could argue that it even sexualizes it, which is what BF advocates are trying to do the opposite of; to show that BFing isn't sexual.

Ironically, when people BF in public without a cover, you probably don't notice or see them.
When they throw a cover on, it is so obvious as to what is going on.
We've walked by a ton of people that were BFing and I often ask my DH if he even noticed - he's never noticed someone BFing without a cover, but, noticed every one that BFs with.
The fact that a PP considers it the equivalent of feeding with a Penis is EXACTLY why we need to normalize BFing.......

Ya, anyone annoyed with breastfeeding in public should probably quit staring. Then again, that gross man at the mall a few days ago chewing with his mouth open made me uncomfy. Wish he would put a blanket over his head while he eats! Oh, that's only ok for babies. I forgot.
There is something about this ad that makes me uncomfortable, but I don't know what. Maybe I'm jealous that I don't have an Oreo right now?

I think it's ridiculous. And that boob has been photoshopped...there is no way a breastfeeding boob looks like that. And that kid is too young to be eating an oreo.
Enough with the obsession with breastfeeding...it's getting old. I know its supposed to be a funny ad, but the first reaction I had was to roll my eyes.

I hate that picture. Mainly because of how airbrushed her boob is! And the fact the baby isn't actually latched on. The fact he's holding an oreo doesn't bother me at all. I'd never give my baby an oreo but I "get" what they're saying.

The whole ad looks very photoshopped. It looks to me like the oreo is shopped into the kids hand, and the boob is so shopped it doesn't even look real.
Other than that I don't really mind the ad. It is mildly funny, and I don't really see anything wrong with it.

My first thought was milk and cookies.
I think it's funny.
I don't have any strong feelings about it either way. The whole thing has a blurry, photoshopped look so I have no issue with the photoshopping of the boob. It would be weird if it wasn't photoshopped, I think.
ETA- The baby has sort of a strange look on his face. I probably would have preferred a pic with the baby smiling. Nothing cuter than a nursing baby smiling.

Wow, in my culture, people I know wouldn't even bat an eye at this picture. (From Europe). We are human, this is the way humans naturally feed their babies and your offended by that?
And the penis comparison was seriously disturbing. Saddens me that some people actually think that?! That made me squirm and uncomfortable, gross.

I admit a woman breastfeeding uncovered makes me uncomfortable as well. I would NEVER say anything in fact I would think all the more power to you. It's just not my thing. I would probably find an excuse to leave the room thinking that you would want privacy just because I would. Does it make sense??? Probably not...but it is how I feel.

Apart from the overly photoshopped nature of the ad, I think it's kind of funny.
To the PP who gave the analogy of men feeding babies with their penises.... That comparison only works if it's vagina feeding, not breast feeding... When women have to pull down their pants and attach their baby's mouth to their vagina in order to feed him/her, you can feel free to compare it to feeding a baby by attaching it to a penis.
For what it's worth, I think babies have just as much of a right to eat in public without a sheet/blanket over their heads as adults do. They also have the right to eat their food from whatever container works best for them, whether that be a breast or a bottle. Kind of like how adults have the right to eat their beef stew from whatever container works best for them, whether that be a bowl or a plate...

I wish the baby was a bit older so the idea of it eating the cookie wasn't so weird.
I have never owned a breastfeeding cover. Waving a pink and brown paisley flag around while you try and wrestle a kid under it only draws attention to the fact you are breastfeeding IMO.
I've had a conversation with an older guy while breastfeeding my daughter and midway through her feed he said "you're not going to do something drastic like breastfeed her are you?" He nearly fell off his chair when I said she'd been feeding for the last 10 minutes. Clearly if he can be across a table from me chatting and not notice it was pretty darn discrete.
I'm not about to buy and sterilize a bottle and pump, pump milk, lug it around with me, find a way to heat it up while my kid cries, try and convince my kid to take the damn thing because an adult can't manage to control their where they place their eyes. I see lots of things that make me uncomfortable, leopard print harem pants and purple plastic shoes for example, but I'm not about to go give them fashion advice or bother being offended. I'll just look away.

I think the ad is cute and funny.
with my older son, I never had a cover and hardly ever got a comment about bfing him. with baby I have a cover- all it does is make it more obvious. the same friend of my dhs who freaked that I was bfing yds in front of him; never noticed when I fed ODS in front of him. If I'm feeding without a cover, your are more likely to see a little belly flab than boob. There is no point in using a cover, baby flings it off. and no I'm not going to pump milk, put it in a bottle, and bottle feed baby just to make YOU comfortable. If you have a problem seeing less than 1/4 of a boob then how do you handle movies, advertising etc? You better never vacation in the Dominican or in parts of Europe, cause OMG women walk around topless.

OK, thought's, here they come!
1- how the hell can the look of an infant be sexualized??
2- I'm pretty sure I can see nip and tongue in this babies mouth, after everyone going on at length about it not being a real boob, I'm kinda sure it is!
3- What's so fake about the boobs?? Sure they're airbrished, but that they're so perky?? You should see my 58 year old mothers tits, you'd [censored] yourself, it's competely unfair that my own drag behind me like two sacks of flour, while she can run around without a bra still!
4- I'm guessing that the mother and the infant are both Asian, and having watched Asian porn in the past (DH's old roomate had a thing for Asian girls, and no we didn't watch it as a group) I did notice that the majority of the actresses had very small areolas!
SO in conclusion, I think that it very well is a nursing mother and her child, I just think that they over shopped the photo's to look like it's less real, more dream like!
And I'm not touching some of the comments, they just make me sad, and that's part of the reason WHY there's such a push for BFing being mainstream, not bottle feeding, because for every "BFing Nazi" (as I have heard them referred to on here before) there are 75-100 people that make disgusting comments to undermine those women who desperately WANT to BF, but feel societal pressure that they shouldn't "because it's GROSS"!
And THAT makes me dissapointed in our Gender, our ability to completely undermine eachother!

I think I'm missing something here. I haven't seen anyone really say that women shouldn't breastfeed. A few people have said that they'd be more comfortable if women covered up, some others said that they themselves preferred to be covered, but I can't see anyone who's saying they shouldn't.
I know how heated this topic can be and I'm of the 'do what works best for you and your baby' group whether that be publicly feeding or covering up, but I don't see why people's backs are up so much because a few people have a different viewpoint.

I will say again, MrsFillier, that I don't have a problem with breastfeeding. I am not uncomfortable with a breast and a baby feeding from it.
I think the people who told you you're indecent or disgusting are entirely wrong.
What I AM saying is that I don't see many people in this thread saying those things. I see some people saying it makes THEM uncomfortable and they've acknowledged that it's their issue because they'd never say anything to a breastfeeding mother.
I'm not sure why you've taken offence to what I posted when I agree with what you're saying. I just also believe that people on the 'other side' have the right to feel the way they do, too

MillyHa, I didn't mean to pick on you, i just wanted to answer your question as to why people had their backs up about this issue. This is not an issue that only comes up in theoretical discussion on message boards and with our friends. This is an issue that affects a lot of us in our day to day lives. Its a common intolerance that I feel infringes on my rights as a mother and a human being.
