 IQ Test

This has probably been done but I was intrigued with it.

I am sure many of us have taken an IQ test online for fun. I just took this one IQ test and was suprised at the results.

I came in at 131 which is the lower range of gifted. Supposedly 2.3% of test takers fall into this category.

Anyone else want to try?

I got 125, so middle of the pack from what I see everyone else has gotten so far. I was surprised it wasn't higher, honestly, because I've done IQ tests before and scored much better... maybe because it's late, who knows.

I was 136.

I find those test really difficult. I'm dyslexic so it takes me a while to be able to read them and comprehend what I'm reading.

What a sketchy test. I wouldn't trust this at all.

IQ average score is 100, and a typical standard deviation is 10. Average is considered 90-110.

I wander though if the results are skewed because a lot of ladies on here have higher education where if you gave them same test to a more diverse crowd the results would be different.

lol...I work with someone who does IQ tests (on people who they want to find out if their low level of functioning is because of IQ or because of dementia or something) and it is a little more in depth than this test . Also can you imagine someone with an IQ of say, 70 getting one question right on that test?

I've don't real iq tests and I don't undstand how this can determinate it. All of the ones I've done (high school, university, and application for the military) were long and timed. This one gave way too much time; therefore, we had plenty of time to actually calculate and review our answers which you don't get much of in a real iq test. Also, I found it was all math and no logic, and logic determines A LOT in a an IQ test (IMO).

I didn't do it. I skipped a grade in school and am not gifted with math or mathematical problem solving. I believe I'd probably test at dense/dull with this.

However, now that I think about it, I can be quite dense and a bit dull at times so maybe it is somewhat accurate.

I feel honoured to be amongst so many geniuses and those of superiority intelligence so thank you all for that. Too bad some of "those" need a recipe to make toast or ice cubes.

It seemed like a lot of basic math, which I generally suck at, yet managed to get a decent score. Definitely didn't seem legit to me. Good money making scheme though. People love to boost their egos. grin

MooseHead, I don't need a recipe to make toast or ice cubes, but I have googled how to boil an egg and bake a potato.

Not necessarily a higher IQ but as many people have stated the test really isn't a true gage of IQ. It's just for fun. But I do think if given to a more diverse group there would be more diverse scores.

IQ tests are also variable by age. The ones our children receive are different than the ones for teens and for adults. My children both received IQ tests as part of their disability assessments and they test different skills in different manners. DH and I both have IQs over 145. Unfortunately, at the time of testing for our girls they both scored under 80. They'd probably score much better now. I also think that IQ tests are horrible indicators of intelligence when it comes to people who have a hard to time maintaining any kind of attention span.

Here's a question. How come so many people know what their IQ is?

To my knowledge I've never had a formal IQ test. I mean, I can take a silly internet test and go through life thinking my IQ is 131, but when I have trouble even finding the results of the test, I'm pretty sure I'm no genius. I always did really well in school but I wasn't 'gifted' or anything like that. I'm assuming that my IQ is around the average-ish level, but really I have no clue. Did everyone else get a formal IQ test to know the numbers?

I got 138. I had testing when I was 12 and while I was never given the actual number I've guessed/calculated that I was 133 so I guess it's close-ish.

As far as the test not being accurate because so many here test highly. Assuming that the members here are in fact more likely than the population at large go have a university degree then it's entirely possible it because we just happen to be smarter than tue general population. Going to university doesn't increase your intelligence that much, but I doubt you'll find a lot of people at any university with an IQ less than 100. It's not a causation (higher education gives you a higher IQ), but is probably highly correlated (those in/with higher education have a higher IQ)

If you consider that those with high IQs often have trouble socially, maybe it makes sense that all the smarties are on here rather than interacting with people in real life! All the "average" people are out talking to real people rather than hanging out on their computers. geek

I had formal testing in grade 5 or so, to see if I would go into the "academic challenge" program. My siblings had testing as part of assessment for ADD/learning disabilities.

They didn't tell me my number, but supposedly it's over 140 as that was the cut off for the AC program. Sister was above average as well, and brother was average, around 100.

If IQ tests are like how I remember them, it's not something you can just do online!

Yes, I had a formal IQ test in elementary school. They didn't just go testing everyone, but they did test me to figure out why I was so weird. My school had less than 100 students, so no gifted program. They were great in making all new lessons just for me to keep me stimulated. They really catered to my needs and I'm lucky to have had teachers that really cared.
