 Elephant man skin *photo*

Ok, so that's not the scientific term for it, but it's what my friend and I call it.

We get this rash on our faces, usually when we wash our face with new water (like in a different country) or use new products.

It's like a greasy film on our skin, and little bumps... sort of what we think an elephant's skin probably feels like.

She looked at my face on Saturday and was all "oh no, are you getting elephant man disease?" but I didn't think I was.

Well, I woke up this morning with full-fledge elephant skin.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? Can you help me?

I had a facial last week at an Aveda salon.. that had to be the culprit.

Can you take a photo and crop it to just show a bit of the elephant skin? I would never expect someone to post a full photo when they're feeling that crappy about their skin tongueold

I am quite curious about this though because I've had a rash recently from what I suspect was the sun and 'elephant skin' is exactly how I described it to DH.

I don't know how to post a picture without having it on FB first. What do I do?!

It's hard to really see.. it's more of a feel kind of thing.

I think it's too small...

Can you kind of see? The texture of my skin is filmy and bumpy.

Sorry, I thought Excema because elephant skin is extremely dry. I'm no help, sorry!

I've never seen this.

I can't see it very clearly, but it looks different than my grossness. I have no idea what it is or how to treat it other than to start popping Benadryl to see if it clears up.

p.s. I owe you a picture of my hideousness next time I break out wink

I was so disappointed the first time I touched an elephant, I thought it was goi g to be soft (don't know why).

I tried calling my only doctor friend but she didn't answer.

I can't see the picture but my son has allergy induced excema. It doesn't look like normal dry excema but the doctor said there are TONES of different kind of excemas and they look different too. My son has this thick, bumpy rash and its allergy induced normally late winter, early spring.

The only thing he can do, take allergy meds and apply cortisone cream. But it lasts from 2-3 weeks as his case can become severe.

I've had allergic reactions that look like that. Until I found out what was causing them, I used a daily anti-histamine with a nightly Benadryl and a small amount of hydrocortisone cream as needed.

Just watch the amount of hydrocortisone you use. It's not a long term solution, and can cause some major skin damage with prolonged use.

That's odd, I had a facial a few weeks ago and also had a full-fledged breakout on my skin (about 2 days after the facial). My face had small little bumps ALL over, but it cleared by itself after several days. Hydrocortizone cream had also made it worse so I just put nothing on it.

If you had a facial, that's probably the culprit. I just took benadryl and didn't put any makeup or cream on my face for about a week and now it's fine.
