This all came out about the same time as Barbie and the Rockers and the whole Jem era.

And remember, the Danny Romalotti days for the Y&R folks. No wonder Phyllis tricked him into having a baby.

And side note: This video reminds a little of the Hugh Grant video: "Pop Goes My Heart." (the checkered 80s theme).
