 Experience with Lowes?

I'm just curious if anyone else has ever had a super s.h.i.t.t.y experience with Lowes? I won't get into the whole story right now, but DH and I decided to try Lowes out (loyal Home Depot shoppers here!) for the first time, and it is SO going to be our last time dealing with them too!

FTR: it's the one in Orleans, ON.

I'm in the States and had a bad experience with them recently. I did end up talking to the manager and they gave us a huge discount but they are the only home improvement store in the area where we are working which kinda sucks.

That sucks. We've dealt with that location once and had no issues... what happened?

Yikes.

We've had decent interaction with one store in our area (DH and I were there 2 weekends ago looking at lights and 5 different reps asked if there was anything they could help us with), but lousy service at another (we tried unsuccessfully to 'flag down' 3 reps for a simple question and they all studiously ignored us). My old boss had a bunch of reno work done on our old office/residential unit and found that the account reps were great, the installers were decent, but the in-store guy he had to deal with for one element was worse than useless.... but nothing like this nut job you've been dealing with. frown

ETA: You'd think that a company still working on establishing a foothold in Canada would be bending over backwards to ensure a positive experience for large order personal purchase clients, just as much as for contractors.

Oh my gawsh! Our problem was just like yours. Carpet installation gone wrong. We purchased the carpet on 03/09 and finally got it down on 04/07 so almost an entire month and they did not have enough of the base board type stuff to go around.

We also had problems with Lowes carpet installers. It took forever to get an appointment for installation. The amount of time spent playing telephone tag was ridiculous. To add insult to injury, the installer arrived over one hour late, and damaged fixtures in the room (with scratches). He also behaved unprofessionally and did not show the level of respect for our home that he should have.

Eventually, we had our problems resolved, but it was a pain in the azz.

Oddly enough, we never had problems with Lowes before the carpet install. We had good experiences in their stores, and customer service in the stores has been great.

I think the problem is with their home installation department. The people who work in that division are AWFUL. I will NEVER do another Lowes home install again.

It's making me sad that this is not an isolated incident!

Well over 36 hrs (39 to be exact) now with no contact from them... I'll have to try again tomorrow, I guess!

Thank you to all who have taken the time to read the whole story!

I boycotted Lowes last year, after the Right Wingers bullied them into taking their adverts off of the Muslims in America show!

I don't watch that show, but if Lowes is going to bend to the demands of bigots, I'm happy to take my business to Home Depot!

That is a pretty INSANE scenarie you went through with their carpeting, WOW!

Yikes, that sounds awful! I'm glad that you posted this. DH and I are eventually going to replace our upstairs carpet and I'll make sure to steer clear of Lowes.

We're going through something with our new kitchen right now. Im not ready YET to declare "I'll never deal with them again" ...

We had a house fire about 18 months ago and had to have an entire kitchen reno done. We went with Lowes (Orleans) because the price was really great - the insurance adjuster could not come close to even matching it with his company so he gave his blessing (and $$$) to go with Lowes. The experience was fantastic - the designer, the actual design that he came up with, the product (the installer who was independent and chose by the insurance company) said it was superior, delivered on time, beautiful! BUT, the mantle that we designed to go over the slide in stove, and the "invisible" fan that goes underneath, neither match each other, and the fan doesn't even fit into the mantle! We've been back to the store, the designer has acknowledged that he ordered the wrong unit ... but told us we had to go out and source someone to make a custom made fan to fit the mantle! Why should WE have to do that??? Anyway - Im going back this weekend and telling them to fix it .... or else! I suspect I'll be writing a letter too!

I FINALLY got a call from Lowes today (well past 72 hrs since being told I'd be contacted within 24 hrs!) And they haven't changed their tune at all! $150 is the best they can offer us. There is a guy coming from the carpet supplier now on Mon. So stupid since we keep expressing to them that our issue really isn't about the carpet anymore, but about their cr.ap customer service! We're ready to give up, it's not worth our energy anymore... But I'll be posting my story all over the internet!
