Thanks ladies. I think the Tamiflu was mostly preventative due to the pregnancy (you're really not allowed to run much of a fever at all with pregnancy), but I have to say that I have never recovered this quickly from an illness this bad. I will definitely ask for this stuff next time I have the flu! I'm feeling much better today. I'm still having trouble breathing, but I finally got some sleep yesterday and last night, which was awesome.

smile Great swim today with Ms_Married. We had a speedster join our lane and I swam my heart out apparently. I am so tired now! LOL Guess that means I should try to kick my own butt more often.

Glad to hear you're feeling better MM. And way to go QE! Nothing like a little competition to spur you on in a lane! That's one of the reasons I really love my Saturday swims. My lanemate is a speed demon and I have to work really hard to keep up with her (I don't, but I do make the pace times). My week night swims just don't have the same mix of people and I often have to swim alone or lead. I prefer to chase!

I watched the Men's Water Polo Olympic Qualifiers this weekend in Edmonton ... and I miss water polo so much!

I mean, obviously I never played anywhere near that level but it's just such a fun sport. Got to chat with the person who took over the club from me and it sounds like things are going really, really well in Saskatoon, which is so, so awesome. I just wish I could go play, too. And I miss having a decent pool to swim in.

I went swimming today at noon (because it's a day off for me anyway) and I just wish I could have done a polo practice instead of just swimming in straight lines. frown Sad times.

On to the happy stuff : met one of the daytime swimmers from the Masters club in my lane. We did most of a workout together and she gave me some great coaching tips, especially for my breathing which was really wonderful. She was our meet manager, so we talked a bit about the meet, too. She's swimming in provincials this weekend---I hope she rocks it!

How is swimming going for everyone else?

Hey Dazed. Watching that waterpolo must have been really thrilling. Too bad you miss it. That's neat that you got to workout with a fellow masters swimmer and get so many tips.

AFM, I haven't swum in a week due to Easter family visits. This week will be my last week swimming until May. The pool has its annual shut-down for maintenance starting on Friday.

In other sports activites, I signed up to join a women's biking club. I really haven't done enough biking in recent years so I took the plunge. I'll still be swimming too. I do a skills clinic on Saturday and then the club starts meeting in mid-May.

Oh and last week I started running. Just for fun. I will probably do a bit more of that while the pool is closed and before biking starts.

Hope the rest of you have a great week.

Dazed - Glad you enjoyed the water polo! It does suck when you are reminded of that loss of a sport. I still feel that way about volleyball sometimes.

MA - Wow! Great work with all of the new activities!!

AFM - I did an aquafit on the weekend, but didn't get to the pool again to swim because we were madly doing stuff to prep for the baby. I hit a noon swim today though while I was out running errands. There was only 3 people in the pool....aaaaaah! I'm hoping the labour tub is as calming and relaxing for me as lane swimming is smile

Do all places have labour tubs or is this a specialty thing?

Mary Ann : what exactly is a biking club? Sounds like it could be neat.

Swam again tonight and got a decent workout. Also discovered that if I can get from RD to the Talisman in Calgary within an hour on Wednesday evenings, they do some sort of women's polo from 6:30-8:00. Lots of driving for not a huge amount of polo (although probably an hour more than I can handle) but in the fall there might be guys stuff, too (there was this past year), so then we can drive together and each get some polo. Now to see if I can get there fast enough (or if my guy can get off work a little early on Wednesdays).

I'm not sure if all hospitals have labour tubs. Our new birth centre here does, and the hospital that we are delivering at just re-did their Labour and Delivery wing and has labour tubs now. You can't actually deliver in the tubs at the hospital (you can at the Birth Centre), but you can labour in them.

That would be great if you could go play water polo! It's totally worth the drive to do something you love.

Dazed- Oh that is super awesome about water polo. I'd do it! Have you ever heard of under water polo/rugby? My uncle and opa have played in Germany for many years. My uncle is trying to get me to try it out.

underwater polo video

MsM- You may just not be able to get out and HAVE to have your baby in the tub. LOL That is my plan if I ever have to deliver at the hospital, and my MW was on board for that. I don't know if I could birth without water. wink

MaryAnn- Great job on running and biking club! Are you thinking about triathlons again perhaps? teeth

afm- Not much swimming to report this week, life has certainly got in the way lately. Darn kid/family cramping my style. tongueold Going tonight!

Yeah! Posts in the swimmers thread! teeth

My cycling club is road biking. We meet on Mondays. I just found out that we will be doing time trials on Mondays until the official start of the season. This is 15km timed on a flat course. First one is going to hurt! After that, we do skills work (climbing, descending, riding in a group etc.) at a location that is more hilly. I'm a pretty experienced cyclist so I'm just really looking for others to ride with. There are also group rides on the weekends.

I'm also hoping to join the group of mountain bikers on Wednesdays. Only my DH and I have a conflict on that night. It's his mountain bike night and one of us will have to do the dog. I will try to join the group a couple of times before his season starts in June if I want to continue, I'll have to look into options for getting a ride to the hill.

I'm not sure how much running I'll keep doing. I was walking the dog last week and wanted to get my heart rate going higher so I started running. I did another walk/run while I was away on the weekend since it was my only other exercise option. I do like having another option for exercise, and the dog loves it. I don't have any plans for triathlons right now, but I don't rule it out.

Dazed, I am happy to hear you have a water polo option, even though it's a long drive. As QE says, it's worth it for something you're passionate about.

Sunday morning swim this morning with QE, which adds up to three swims this week - woot! This pre-baby maternity leave is not so shabby tongueold

I'm stretching the crap out of my shoulder and icing it to help avoid a flare-up of the tendinitis though. My shoulder's not used to that much swimming any more.

Three swims in one week! And at 38 weeks pregnant, not bad at all, MM! Hope you shoulder is treating you well.

No swimming for me last week after all. A bit of post-Easter jet lag, combined with car conflicts with DH didn't permit it. But I did get out for: 1 mountain bike ride, 1 road ride and 2 runs though. I have muscles in my legs I didn't even know I had! What difference it makes to be exercising in real gravity. teeth

Great job ladies!

MsM- That sucks about your back & shoulder, damn hormones! Hope you are on the mend.

MaryAnn- Way to go, you rock lady! I think that's the perfect combo of activities anyway...along with swimming of course.

Two swims this weekend, I feel good. Going to take DS out in his jogging stroller soon too for a run. smile Can't wait!

No swimming for me. I hurt my back on Wed and have been in major pain ever since. I can barely walk, let alone exercise. FYI: If your ligaments are all loose to get your body ready for birth, maybe don't clean out your office, go for a swim, and get a whole whack of groceries and carry them into the house, all in the span of a few hours tongueold

I saw my chiro this morning though and had an adjustment (since last week, the two sides of my pelvis had tilted in opposite directions and my sacrum was out of place - yep, that would explain the pain!!) and have a physio appt this afternoon. Hopefully that will get everything close to fixed up so that I can walk/swim again and have a healthy back for labour.

Ouch, that sounds painful! And I'll totally pass the advice on to my rather pregnant co-worker. I think she's probably been doing well but could maybe use the reminder.

I missed swimming this weekend and last Thursday---just too tired on Thursday, worked on Saturday, and it was just too nice out to go inside on Sunday. Will go Tuesday and Thursday and possibly drive to Calgary for polo on Wednesday (still scared that it will go really, really badly and I'm spending the weekend in Calgary so ... we'll see!). Big plans; what will the reality be?

Made it out tonight!

We did a 300m warm-up, then 800m timed swim. I could have done in it about 16 minutes, I think, but I was following someone who is usually super fast but was pretty slow today. I'm pretty sure I drafted off of her, which wouldn't have helped anything, either.

We then did some fins stuff, then fins and paddles, then paddles, then a 50m timed fly (just over a minute, which is pretty darned slow---last time I think I was mid- or low-50s!), then a 50m timed breast (just over a minute, I think, which again is pretty slow for me but not terrible), then practicing relay starts, which was fun.

Ta-da! One plan checked off the list!

Yikes, MM. An out of place sacrum sounds absolutely horrible. I hope you're feeling better and can have a relaxing (i.e. with no shoulder problems) swim if you're up to it. That baby must be due soon, yes?

QE, glad to hear you're swimming and soon jogging.

Dazed, that's one heck of a workout. I'm not surprised your sprint times were off..you did them at the end of your workout and after a timed 800! If you had sprinted fresh off the warm up that would have made a difference.

AFM, I'm still on swimming break this week as the pool is closed for maintenance. I did more riding and running last week. Am a bit bruised from a couple of falls--once off the mountain bike (I also broke my helmet) and once from tripping when I ran. Luckily it was in the woods and I landed in dirt and not concrete but my left arm, leg, knee, and side of head are all bruised and a bit scraped up. What is it with my left side? It seems to take all the punishment.

My new helmet has arrived and I hope to use it again tonight if the weather cooperates. I look forward to returning to the pool next week. If I'm lucky my bruises will have all faded by then!

Dazed - Good grief, that workout sounds exhausting!! Did you end up making it into the city for water polo?

MA - Um, ow! I can't believe you broke your helmet! And boo to your pool being closed. I'm lucky that I'm central to three Ys, so when one of them is closed I can still swim at the other two.

AFM - Back is still a mess. Because my ligaments are so loose pre-birth, my body is refusing to hold the chiropractic adjustments. Bah. The good news is that now that we at least know what it is, I can swim again smile I swam yesterday, today QE and I hit and afternoon swim, and I'm going to go again tomorrow morning. The water is bliss - no pain!

MM, sorry to hear your back is still bad. Glad that the pool gives you relief though. Wow, just looked at your ticker. 2 days to go! I hope all goes well (and relatively on time).

As for the helmet, it didn't actually "break". I did hit the ground with my head and I took a pretty good gouge out of it. But helmets are only good for one crash, so it had to be replaced, hence I refer to it as broken.

The weather has been wet and really cold so no biking for me. I may do a run tonight though. I've been rather lazy all week in my crash recovery mode!
