Hi there,

Room for another? smile

I started up on WW again. The program is a bit different than the last time I was on it so I'm relearning as I go.

Hey ladies....I have posted in this thread before and am sneaking back in, hanging my head in shame...joining WW for the THIRD time in three years. <sigh>

I'm off to a meeting tomorrow to sign up. But I am totally ashamed to have to head back to the same meeting I was going to before with the same leader. Like, "Hi, I'm a total loser and I'm back...again..." LAME.

I'm not back up to my highest weight, but I'm only a hop, skip and a jump from it. In the last month or so I have looked into/researched Ideal Protien, Herbal One, Herbal Magic and Body by Vi. None of these programs sit right with me. I figure if you're weight loss is laregly dependent on cutting out FOOD (and replacing it with shakes or pills) then odds are you're gonna pack the weight back on once you start eating again. Plus, I just can't fathom paying 800+ dollars to lose 20 pounds....though by the time I actually lose it with WW it might come out to the same cost.

SO....tell me I'm not a total moron going back to my meeting tomorrow?!?

Dont ever feel shame or feel lame for going back. You have no idea how many people let that be the reason they DONT go back. The leaders have seen it all. They dont keep score as to who quits and comes back. They dont care if its your first time, or your 50th time.. you are there, and you want help.

Go in knowing you are doing the best thing you need to do for yourself. Smile, and enjoy. smile

Kanga: sounds like you are doing well! How are you adjusting to working? I go back soon, Im scared..lol

Mamasita; welcome back! Sometimes it takes a few attempts at WW but good for you for coming back. Can you give me the low down on Body by Vi? My aunt is doing it; and I think it's just a glorified protein shake..then my mom wanted to try it. Sigh... I keep telling them to eat right, exercise a bit, and just indulge occasionally (basically WW is the way to go) but no one seems to listen to me. what do you know about it?

And honestly. So far I've been at WW for 8.5 months (so let's say 34 weeks) and its 16/week, so 500 ish dollars (since I hit a sale and got a few free weeks and I was already a member- joining didn't cost me as it was a deal). So really, for 500 dollars, I feel like I have the support to lose and its helped me immensely to go meetings! plus all the materials help alot. and you learn how to eat right and maintain. I wonder how you can maintain loss on those other programs.

Im doing alright, busy busy! the kitchen is almost done. Plumbing is being hooked up as we speak. smile next up, paint, then electrical is all hooked up- then I can cook inside again! yay!! probably by end of next week it will all be FINISHED!!!

I want to splurge a bit on new kitchen items. Ideas? What's a great kitchen tool you can't live without (exception of your food scale).

In terms of program I'm doing well. I lost 2.2 last week and stayed the same this week. Yay! I got myself 2 new bra's that fit properly!! and now I can really see the weight loss. Must take new pics of myself now. smile I've also been doing more Simply filling technique and it seems to be working for me.

I go back to work in about 5 weeks. I hope to have a few freezer meals done, and have everything organized cause its gonna get crazy with working again. frown I will also change my meetings most likely, to lunch hour so I dont need to leave the kidlets in the evening. Although I love my leader right now, I think daytime would work best for me.

Also my cubicle got moved over, its much smaller. BOO. BUT!! its away from the food table. Im very happy about that. smile

Thanks for the welcome back, ladies!!

Ryann -- you're comment solidified it for me. I shouldn't let my shame be the reason I don't go back. Then all I have is shame and fat! So tomorrow I am going to swallow my pride and walk back in to that meeting and I swear to God, this is the LAST time I am doing this. I'm NOT quittig until I reach goal/lifetime. I've lost 15 lbs on WW before so I know the program works for me. I just have to committ to it and do it.

Nikki - I don't know a lot about BBV,but a few friends of mine have done it and have success. However, it basically replaces 1-2 meals a day with a protien shake (which apparently taste super goood), and also has the option of supplements. You obviously lose tonnes of weight on the program since you aren't eating, you know, FOOD....but my thinking is that that kind of lifestyle isn't sustainable, right? I mean, you can't live forever on shakes and supplments.

I usually do the monthly pass for WW, so it costs me just under $60 a month. I'm hoping to reach my goal (145lbs) by September so that I can stop paying.

Is there a new Points Plus program? I was sent some stuff in the mail the other day and it said something about the "New" Points Plus 2012 program. Is there anything super different about it? In the PP program before I had 29 points for the day...is it less now? I really felt my weight loss stall when the Points Plus came in.

ETA: I just officialy signed up for the monthly pass on line!! I'm BACK!! =)

Welcome back Momma. I wanted to add that I have been going to meetings now for almost 4 years. And I can't believe how many people I see sign up and leave and come back again. I swear I have seen this one girl like sign up 3 times. You can do it!
The only change with the program is that you can be a little more flexible with your points. They were finding that people who were close to goal were having a hard time losing weight with 29 points, so you can down to 26 points if you want. Let me tell you 26 points a day is HARD! I really miss those extra 3 points.

I have a girl at my gym who is hawking the BBV crap. Keeps asking me if I want to try... reminds me of the slim fast days when I was younger.

I definitely could not drink a shake for two meals a day.. no matter how much protein or crap you put in it.

Yeah I'm told they taste good and 'not like chalk'. Um. okay. When I looked at the ingredients, to me? its nothing more than a protein shake. My aunt puts fruit in it when she makes it at home, or sometimes uses milk, honestly.. replacing a meal with a shake, well, anyone can do THAT. And NO it's not sustainable. The thing is, its almost like a placebo. Cause now that my Aunt takes these shakes, va voom, she eats well! AHA!! So I told my mom that its NOT the shake, the shakes forces her to eat well and make efforts and that's why she's lost weight. My aunt has been on that plan since NOv and lost almost 30 lbs !! I've been on WW since August and lost 20 lbs. So yeah! and she thinks its a slow loss. UM GET REAL!!! I dont know what her expectations are, anyway, I told her not to get discouraged if it slows down b/c it will at some point and congratulated her for eating well too. So now of course my mom & other aunt want to try this 'shake'.

And NO ONE wants to join ww. Maybe its cause they're older? or they have alot to lose? They are all about 250-300 lbs. I dunno.. or they think its too expensive or takes too much time? but I keep saying that its REAL food and meal planning and a bit of exercise (they are all scared of exercise, I mean they are all 50 plus and never exercised before).

Anyway..its a hot button for me this damn 'shake ' thing.

Morning ladies!! Just back from my first meeting (AGAIN) and I actually weighed in a bit less than I thought. When I went to Herbal Magic on Easter Monday for a consultation, they weighed me in at 157.9 lbs. Today at WW I was 154 lbs. So, YAY...I'm lower to begin with than I thought.

Tracking like a mo-fo today and plan to all week. I'm down to 26 points which I think is good since the 29 really stalled my weight loss.

Have a good week ladies!!

Hey Everyone!

I'm back from vacation and ready to be back on track. I didn't eat too horribly, but definitely drank alot of beer! Avoiding the scale until I've had a few days to drink tons of water and flush some of the bloat.

My schedule is going nuts starting tomorrow as the high school field hockey team I coach starts league games so I will have to rearrange my gym schedule depending on game days. The weather here is crap (snow in April, woohoo) so it could get even busier with games needing to be rescheduled.

We're off to Mexico in 3 weeks (BM in a destination wedding where I will be the chubby bridesmaid in the horrible yellow dress) and I have my dress fitting in just over 5 weeks so I will be tracking like crazy and working out like mad!

Have a great week smile

Hey chicks...so, I'm a week behind. To report last week...I'm up 6lbs. I was down to my lowest in over a year the week before...then up 6lbs in a week. I don't know what the deal is there other than the sinus infection meds I was on. I'm still struggling with some sort of virus as well....I think between DH and I, we're just trading this thing back and forth. He's on meds right now...and I feel like I'm coming down with something again.

Anyhow...I need some motivation. Something to excite me. Seeing the scale down to my lowest was awesome...seeing the 6lb gain...not so awesome. I was thinking of going out and buying new workout clothes, but I've seriously got a closet full that I'm wearing as lounge clothes. I've got new shoes, but I'm just wearing them around to go shopping. I'd love to read something to motivate me, but I can't find anything good. I've downloaded new music...created a playlist, which sounds awesome in the car. I've got two months until my niece's wedding and I need to be inspired!! Help me! smile

Aww sorry things have been rough Julie. The meds can definitely cause that kind of weight gain in a short period of time.

You KNOW what you have to do. SO do it:)

Pencil in your gym time in your calender, and stick to it. Get your butt moving again. Drink your water, eat your veggies:)

I read the Amazing adventures of diet girl a while back. It was a pretty decent read. Its about a girl who blogged about her journey, then turned it into a book. She was on ww for a perio of time and was over 350 pounds I believe. Might be a interesting one for you to read.

I will post before and afters. I know it's only 20 lbs (not a huuuuge loss) but what a difrenc,e and I can I say the new bra makes the change even more noticeable. Jules I think you need to find your own motivation. Why are you doing this?

For me, its healthy living .. for us, my kids, and for life. Not a 'diet' for me. I also refuse to be like my aunts and uncles and my mom. They are all obese and suffer alot of consequences from that- some have had/ have cancer, my mom can barely walk 2 minutes without complaining. I dont want to be the 'couch grandparent'. I want to run & play with my grand kids. smile

That's my motivation.

Nikki - that's a good question. Looking at..I think I've just got the emphasis on the wrong part right now. WHY am I doing this??? VS. Why I AM doing this. Question vs. a statement.

I think I'm just letting life steam roll me a bit. Probably have a clearer head if I emptied it on the treadmill.

Helloooooooo! Sorry I have been totally MIA
I had a tough week last week well last two weeks actually I have been struggling and am up +1.0 combined. I spoke with my leader and she reviewed my tracker and said I need more protein and water! So I reved it up this week lets hope it helps. I think my new BC may have something to do with it to... my clothes are fitting the same so I know I am not really gaining.. GAH!

Ray- Congrats on the 5km!! I will have to check out your blog smile

nikki- Yay to new bra's!! Cant wait to see your pics smile

Welcome back Wishing! jealous of your Mexico trip. I cant believe we were just there last month seems like forever ago.

Hi Mommsita and Lem wave

tojules- Hope you are doing okay. Get on that treadmill you will feel better!

AFM- Well see rant above... trying to do my best. Just frusterating why do I have either no loss, gain or stay the same when I exercise 3-4 times a week!! I guess more protein is maybe my answer. I just need to find the balance. As my leader said the weight will eventually come off I just want it RIGHT NOW. It frusterates me paying for this and seeing a gain UGH.
Anyway I found 1pt turkey bites and these new drink crystals at Safeway that are 0pts and all natural! Yippee lol.

I am pleased to report that after 4 weeks of figuring out things, playing around with MFP and working on increasing my food intake, things have finally gone the right way and I had a HUGE drop this week of 3.8 pounds. I am very pleased to see the results start to come and I look forward to seeing the scale continue this downward trend. I am eating more now than I ever did before and I feel great:) I have actually added nuts back into my diet as part of my snacks, something I never could have done before with the small portions they have to be..:)
This week I concentrated on getting in more protein, which definitely seemed to help. I didnt cut back on anything, or avoid eating certain foods. I tracked everything, I got in my activity (including 5 first 5k race) and just enjoyed myself. In fact, I actually did weigh in daily, and for the first time ever, I saw daily drops on the scale almost all week long. I am going to try and avoid the scale this week just to work on not being so obsessed with it:)

Way to go Kelly. I hope it keeps up and you found something that works!

I did good this week too. I swear having no stove/kitchen has helped me. tongueold I lost another .8 so down 21.6 - almost at my 25 lbs which is my next goal! Ihope it keeps up; I atribute it to 2 things, more planning and more stair climbing, since we had to go to the 2nd floor for water, dishes, etc. Im sure that helped me get more activity without planning for it. I think the last 6 weeks I've been down 5 or 6 lbs. Never has my loss been that consistent. smile

Oh..I did have my WI this week, I was down 1.4lbs from last week's 6lb gain. tongueold It's an improvement. But I can see the weight is all in my lovely cankles right now. tongueold

Nikki, congrats on your loss! smile That's awesome!

I did go for a walk yesterday at lunch time...I was whining and trying to figure out a way not to do it. I thought I'd take a cab to lunch, but...I did walk it. 5 blocks one way, 5 blocks back. Doesn't sound like much...but it was almost 1km each way and for someone who doesn't walk...it was a lot. I'm going to get on the treadmill tonight and try and walk a little more. Gawd, I am soooo out of shape. tongueold

Oh, and I did pickup the book The Adventures of dietgirl. smile Operation Lard Bust....love it! laugh Im really enjoying it so far. I can sort of relate to her in some ways....will be an interesting read. smile

good job Julie! smile smile way to go. you should be proud of yoursef. I've found some members try too hard too fast, and they get hurt, or discouraged, and stop, So start slowly and work your way into increasing time/intensity.

Teacup- eventually the losses will catch up. If you WI at the same time week to week, eventually, the scale will show. You might be down or up a little if you work out, you eat, maybe you ate something salty the day before, you don't know, but in time, it will show. Have faith! (pssst.. you could always WI at home naked, first thing in the AM, I do WI at home and with WW in the evening, and still, there are diffrences, both losses and gains- but either way, its' a consistent loss).

Hi Ladies

I'm a lurker in this thread wink I hope you don't mind my popping in.

I'm a past lifetime member and am now struggling to loose baby weight. I know the whole program changed since I've attended (twoish years ago). Do they still have a "core" type program? And I've heard all the points values have changed - what's with that? For any of you who were around before the change, how do you like the "new" program?

Thnaks!

Believe me, I struggled big time with the eating more, but its true. especially when you work out.. Your body needs so much fuel in a day to just make it run... if you dont fuel it up enough, then your body starts to burn muscle in order to keep it going.. and you dont want that at all. It took me the better part of the last 6 weeks to wrap my head around eating more and now finally things have sorted out and the weight is coming off.

Read this blog and see if it helps you to understand why we actually need to eat more, especially if we are exercising.

http://fitnesswithnatalie.blogspot.ca/2011/05/most-dreaded-word-in-weight-loss.html?m=0

Baby - they have something similar to the core program but its not called it anymore. The points program is still "the same" but the way they calculate points changed. So now it is based off of Fat, Fiber, Carbs and Protein. Prior, you could eat light ice cream and it would be roughly 2 points.. but because it is still high in carbs and sugar, our bodies process it no differently than the regular ice cream which was 4 points a serving. SO it made no sense that the light stuff was less points.. SO now they way the points work, is the higher the protein, generally the lower the points.. the higher the fibre, generally the lower the points.. the higher in Carbs.. the higher the points.. KWIM?

On the old program you would have had a set number of points, and that hasnt changed, but the AMOUNT of points you get now has. You either have to sign up for WW online, or a meeting I believe in order to determine what your new points total will be.
Most people get more points now, but more food items changed in value.. But overall it is very close to the old program, with the focus on whole foods rather than the processed stuff.

You still get 49 weekly points to use, (which I do recommend using if you are working out) and then you can still earn activity points for working out.

The "new" program makes more sense than the old one did. it definitely makes you pay more attention to proteins and carbs in foods now.

You're welcome:) I understand the mental block with eating more.. we have it ingrained in our heads as a society that we should be starving ourselves in order to see a loss on the scale, but its just not true. Its amazing how much food we do need to eat in order to just function, let alone when we work out..
Since you are earning 25 aps a week, I would definitely be eating those, or at least half of your WP. You need to eat more to lose:)

Nikki - I wanted to comment on a post you made a while back about how the older women in your family didn't want to join WW but wanted the shake instead. Way back when, my Mom was on WW. Back in the 70's or so I think. She used to have to weigh everything and was only allowed to eat fish most days. And some other vile stuff, if I recall, as well as cod liver oil. The program has changed so much since those days it's essentially unrecognizable. Perhaps they remember an older version of WW and think when you say "real food" you mean "fish" - or some such. But either way - everyone wants a magic bullet. WW sounds like work to most people.

Kelly - Congrats on your losses and on your 5Ks. How amazing!

LEM/Kelly - I was just talking to someone at work today about the "eat more" thing too. I think the flip side of the mentality of starving yourself to lose weight, is the idea that so many people seem to have that overweight people stuff their faces with McDs and donuts all day.

I've just been back to WW for a couple days now and it's hitting me again how thin the line is between gain & loss. A smidge less of this, a pinch less of that, a small change of habit and suddenly you are losing where you had been holding steady before. And I think for most of us our gains came in fits and starts. 5lbs at Christmas that never left, 3lbs on vacation, a night out here and there that packed 1lb on each time. And suddenly after 2 or 3 years you've gained 50lbs or more. I don't think many of us gain every day, or even every week. But the media would have us believe that fat people and thin people eat radically different diets. And that is not necessarily so. Perhaps a little different - but not nearly so much as you would think.

Anyway, I think that's kind of the flip side of the "not eat to lose weight" mindset. You feel like your eating habits must be so radically out of whack, that being thin is so insanely unattainable, that the only possible way to do it from here would be to eat as little as possible for as long as possible.

AFM - I am re-joining WW. I started this week again. I've tried to lose on my own but have not been able to make any real headway. I was on WW last summer and I lost about 15lbs. I had managed to keep it all off. I lost another 5lbs a couple months ago, but it slipped away, and then just a couple weeks ago I suddenly put on 5lbs for no reason I can figure. I haven't been able to take it back off - again can't quite figure out why. So after thinking about it for a month or two that settled me on re-joining.

Hi. My name is Mariposa and I've been sober for 2 days......

Yesterday went really well, despite the trip to Costco. So far today is looking good too. I have a planned "delivery" night with friends tonight, so I expect that to be a challenge, but I do get a lot of points in a day, so as long as I stay focused I shouldn't have too much trouble coming in on points today.

I was very disappointed to find that my points target has gone down 4 points since last year. And that my beloved cheese appears to be worth a point more than it was on the old program. Both of these are going to be tough on me. But I was actually losing pretty well last year when I was actually OP, so I think even if I go a little further into my WP or AP I should still get good results.

I understand the change was mostly for people at the lower end.

Anyway, I'm back. Last time I was determined to stay on WW until I got to goal weight. I was super keen. This time, well this time I'd really like to lost 10lbs. Or at least the 5 I gained recently. But really that 5 plus another 10. And then of course there is the 100 or so after that, but right now my motivation is only strong enough to look at 10. If I lose 10lbs I will be very happy about it. I'll have to see after that.

Hi ladies -- sorry I haven't been better about checking in all week, but with DH on nights and two little ones at home, it's all I can do to stay awake until 8pm some nights!

Congrats to everyone on their losses (yay Ryann!) and hang in there to those of your still trying to get the loss you've been hoping for.

I have my first official weigh in on Sunday. I'm hoping for a 2.5-3lbs loss. The last two times I joined WW I lost 3.6 lbs and 4.1 lbs in my first week, respectively. I don't think I am going to have quite as big of a loss this time around, but that's okay. I've been tracking really well all week and I am super proud of myself.

A good friend of mine is joining with me on Sunday so I think that will make the meetings a lot more fun for me.

I'll check back in on Sunday!

Checking back in -- went to my first weigh in today and I am really disappointed. =( I was only down .4 of a pound. I feel like I really stayed on track all week long, so I'm not sure what to blame this on. I actally asked them to weigh me in again because I couldn't believe that I hadn't even lost an entire pound.

I guess I have to hope that my body catches up with my habits soon.

On to week two!

Sory Momma. Take a look back on your tracker.. did you have high sodium meals or items in the last 72 hours? Is AF arriving? Did you eat out a lot?
Sleep makes a big difference too. On the nights I dont get a good sleep in, (ie. kids waking all night) then the scale doesnt move much..

I hope things look better for you next week..

AFM scale has done a jump up the last 24 hours or so, and Im pretty sure AF is about to apear. Otherwise my week has been good. Had another 5k race this weekend, which I blogged about if anyone cares:)

Hey Ladies

I've been MIA lately and will probably continue to be until the middle of June. My life is crazy with school stuff, extra curr supervision, trying to get workouts in, and now wedding stuff is in full swing.

I had a gain at WW this week which was disappointing, but I'm definitely back on track! AF should arrive tomorrow so that's probably the reason for the gain.

I've upped my activity so will try to increase my calories (in a good way, although I would love to just add some sweets or chips, haha).

Keep up the good work everyone, and hang in there for the tough weeks!

I have had so much success this last month and a bit, well since the kitchen was destroyed by my contractor. tongueold seriously. I dont know if its b/c I have to plan better, or I have to go up and down the stairs all the time for water. Either way I'm down now, 3 lbs in 2 weeks! WOW!! this past week we hadthe stomach flu- so I was barely eating and once I was.. I was not into sweets or anything bad, so I barely got my daily target. So I know this loss might be temporary, but I'm 1 lb away from 25 lbs. I also baught new pants in the next size , officially, Im in 14!! and last summer I was wearing 18's. Im preeeety pumped. smile Im back at work in 3 weeks, so I think I'll switch to lunch hour downtown meetings.. there's so much to prepare for my going back to work. I dread the 'food' table and dealing with work treats. Sigh.. but I know i"ll be fine at work and it will be good. Just a new routine. I have no idea when I'll get any exercise in. frown

Mariposa- welcome back!! smile I was hoping you'd come back. smile I hope you find the group helpful, sounds like you have a great attitude!

Just checking in. smile Had my WI this am. Up 0.1 lbs. laugh I think that's pretty decent considering I've got a serious bloat on from that time. UGH. I know I complain about that every month...but seriously, you'd think in the history of woman...someone would have come up with SOME way to deal with it. tongueold

Anyhow, things are ok here. Calendar is starting to fill up with appointments and stuff. Tomorrow is my consult with the specialist on my lump....not sure how I'm feeling about that, but at least I'm not eating my feelings. Which is a good start.

I still need to do my taxes (yes, I'm a procrastinator) but there wasn't enough wine in the city for me to sit down and do them last night. I started fighting with the computer, then getting agitated with the forms...I finally gave up and decided to start fresh tonight. Doing your taxes angry is not a good thing...might be tempted to just stuff everything into an envelope and say "Hey...since you already know the answer, why don't YOU tell me what I need to pay RevCan!". And nope, didn't drink wine last night...stuck with Coke Zero. smile

Anyhow, been bad at tracking, but will be back at it this week. Been getting more walking exercise and I like it. smile

That's not too bad Kel, considering. smile

Not much happening here. Getting in my veggies, traded pop for sparkling water (no sugar)...just something about the fizzies that I like. Just have to watch the sodium in those, no flavours. Some have more sodium than others.

Yah...pretty quiet. smile
