I'm doing 3 days/week, I'm following a program so I'm just doing the 3 days!

Just did W2D1 yesterday, I've been sticking to this program faithfully and I am sooo proud of myself! I usually quit this stuff pretty early on lol!

I want to go out. But 2 days off and my knees still hurt. I went out to grab a few things from walmart tonight and it hurt to walk. I think/assume I need to wait until it doesn't hurt before going out again. ARGH. I hope it's ok. My mom said when she tried to start running she hurt her knee and now can't run.

Aw C, sorry you are having trouble... did you have trouble on the tread, or just being outside?
I would definitely take a few days off until you are feeling better walking on it. The last thing you want to do is hurt yourself further. Also, when you do get out again, I would slow down your pace to a slow jog, if you are running "fast".. You have an elliptical, right? That might be good to get on in the meantime because there is no stress on your knees. least then you can keep yourself moving.

Hugs. Injuries suck big time

Nope, just outside. Never anything on the tread. I think I pushed myself too hard the first one outside and then made it worse the other day. I'll definitely keep it slower next time.

Yeah we have an elliptical. And once it doesn't hurt so much I'll start using it again.

Snick - hope your knee gets better! Did you get it checked out?

I'm on week 5 - we're doing 4min run/1 min walk with our group. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be on Monday! I'm supposed to go tonight but DH has tickets to a hockey game and I can't seem to find someone to watch DD for a couple of hours. frown I'll likely go out tomorrow on my own instead and then on Saturday I'm actually going to run a 5k! HOLY COW! I'm signed up for my first race!

Did W2 D2 outside. I like running outside better. It seem softer than the indoor running track. I'm quite enjoying myself.
I told DH that in May (or once he returns from his trip), he's going to start running too. He's excited.

Just poppin my head in to let you all know that I began my C25K journey in the second week of January, and this morning I ran my first official 5k race. I beat my best time by more than 2 minutes and had an absolutely wonderful experience. You are al more than capable of doing the program. Enjoy every run, every step, every kilometer. SIGN UP FOR A RACE!! It doesnt matter if your race in 4 weeks from now and you do your walk/run intervals for it.. just sign up. It makes it much more real to run in an official race, with an official bib and an official time. It is sugh a huge motivator to be there, at a starting line with everyone else, anticipating your run. Even in mine, there was a ton of walk/runners.. Do it for the experience.. for the drive.. for the fun:)
It was by far, the best feeling in the world to cross that finish line:)

Dont repeat!! if you make it to the end of your intervals in your current week without stopping, then you ARE ready for the next week. If you do it and then cant complete it, THEN repeat... but dont backtrack if you already passed it:)

Believe me, you CAN do it. I thought the same things when I jumped to 3 minutes... OMG how in the heck can I do it?? But I did... and so will you. Have faith in yourself.. slow your pace down if you need to and do it!! And then the next week you can see just how much further you run past that same point in your run. That is the best feeling:)

Okay, I officially need shoes. frown I did W2D3 yesterday, and halfway through I had to walk the rest of the way, I failed. frown My knees, ankles, and back were just KILLING, I couldn't run through it. So now I need to somehow get out and buy some shoes and try to keep up with the C25K schedule too. Ughhh.

Oh definitely dont look at the time. That makes the runs go so much longer! It is way better to have a program or an podcast or something that already has the intervals marked for you, so you just run and it tells you when to stop. There is nothing better than hearing "walk" and realizing you just ran for x amount of time:)

Pann - you did NOT fail. You now know what you need to do in order to make things easier on you. Shoes is definitely a major component, and likely that is what is causing the pains you are having. Failing would be not even trying.. You were a success for going out and giving it a shot.

W3 D1 done! During the run, it felt really easy. Today, I am sore. Abs, lower back, calves (should have stretched them more).
I had lots of hills on yesterday's route and the wind ... it was interesting.

On the upside, my weak point (shins/ankles) are good.

W6D1 - last night... 5min intervals - kicked my [censored]! Ugh. Our leader changed up our route and had us doing more hills than normal. I thought i was going to die! Halifax/Dartmouth is known for it's hill and up til now we've tried to avoid them but no more... I'm hoping that Wednesday's clinic run isn't as bad though I'm kind of doubtful... We did 5.7km last - insane! I was sooo slow though I wasn't alone in my slowness. smile

Raynn - Congrats again on your first 5k!~ Must feel exhilerating to complete it!

Marieal - Have to agree with the others - I try my hardest to just wait for the beep of my watch and not look at it. It makes it harder when I'm on my own running to keep looking at it.

TW - Good job!

W5D1 Complete! It was HARD but I think it had more to do with the wind as I had my stroller with me. At least that's what I'm telling myself wink

Maritime - I'm visiting my parents in Hali next week so I'll be completing next week's runs there. I hear you about the hills - I'm a little scared wink I've been trying to think of a flat route in their neighbourhood and I don't think one exists!

Raynn - congrats - I hope you feel proud of yourself! And thanks for popping in to share your sucess and advice, you are a great motivator.

How is everyone else doing?

I'm curious to see where I am week wise with the program?!?

I have am doing 30 minutes: 10 min run, 90 sec walk, 7 min run, 90 sec walk, 7 min run, 3 min cool down walk - 3.6km

So I am way behind everyone.. I'm planning on doing W1D3 today.. I bought a jogging stroller as I wasn't finding the time to go without DS around. I missed my last running day due to bad winds, but did the routine on the elliptical and will repeat it today

My first run I had watch the time as my ipod (with podcast) was giving problems.. the next time was much better with just listening to podcast that just indicates when to start running or walking.

Finally finished W2! I feel so much better now than when I started. The weather is supposed to be much warmer on the weekend so I should be back out more often. I also got bluetooth headphones which I am super excited about so I don't have the annoying headphone cord to deal with.

I also love RunDouble! It's been fantastic.

Dont worry Megan, you can do it:) slow your pace down, and just concentrate on making it to the 5 minute mark. It feels SOoooooooo great when you do it:) Then the next run you do in that week, compare your distance for that 5 minutes... did you go further than the last one?:) That is when you start to feel the pride in yourself for doing it:)

My program went from 3minutes to 6 minutes.. then 9 minutes.. that first new week was tough, but I promise it gets much easier in the other days.. and before you know it, you are done:)

Hi everyone - can I join in? I'm just starting the program tomorrow, and have been quietly listening in your thread smile

BabyG - 20 minutes straight? Awesome! I was only ever able to do that once, and only because my gf was kicking my butt!

My goal is to train for a half marathon next spring. I tried to run it three years ago but got pregnant halfway through the training! The only race I've ever done was a 10km four years ago and that was brutal (I definitely didn't follow an actual program).

I'll be starting W3 on Tuesday and you girls are scaring me eek course me starting will be contingent on my ankle. I rolled it in the winter when I tripped in a grate at a car wash and I think I re-injured it or something. It felt ok during my run today, but right now I'm limping. Seems particularly bad when I haven't moved in a bit. ARG!

And I had a rather simpleton revelation today. It was my first time running during the day as I normally go out after 8pm when DD is asleep. When it is sunny at 2pm, take sunglasses! wink

I finished W3D2 today! I *think* my program is slightly different from you ladies as I'm doing zero to 10K (from RunDouble) so W3 is 4-3 min runs and 4-3 min walks in between. I felt good though and I'm feeling like I'm making progress smile

And don't worry, you all will be able to do the 20 minutes and then the 30 minutes later! But I remember how daunting it was to think about running that long. It WILL happen!

RE: Headphones- I just bought some bluetooth headphones (from Ebay- Nokia brand) and I love them. It's so nice not having the cords to deal with and they fit me way better than ear buds (which always fall out). They are ear buds on a head band shaped piece that goes at the base of the back of your neck. They don't move around at all when I run and they don't fall out either. This is them:

I'm still not following the program dead on, but will be doing a week 5-ish run tomorrow (or tonight depending on the weather).

My neighbour and I are registering for a 5k on May 12 in our town. I think that would be a good "first time" race because its small (only 100+ people).

Still can't do it in 30 minutes, but I managed 4.7km in 34 minutes on Saturday. We're getting there!

Would you repeat the week? I'm not sure I'm strong enough to go on to w3 once I can get back out?

Good job ladies! Keep it up!

Hope those with injuries can rest up and get well quickly!

Wel I think I'm good to go. I had my last week with the clinic. She told us now that we're done we can increase our lengths of time running vs. walking. She suggested that we try to run most of our runs and only walk hills, etc.

So last night I went out with a GF for a run - I was planning on doing 6/1 and then changed my mind as we were running to only walking hills... well honestly we hardly walked any of the hills!
My GF was so impressed - she said she could see such an improvement in my cardio from just a few short weeks ago! We ended up doing with our warm-up and cool-down walks - 6.4km! HOLY MACKERAL! I couldn't believe it when I mapped it when I got home!

Well, I needed a run today. So I went and did my w4 d1 despite my sore back.
The run was great. I went to the indoor track. I've had enough of this weather. 5 minutes wasn't bad at all. I had fun. The back ... not so much. I think I'll ice it.

Glad you made it out alter.

Teacher, how do you find running at a track? It's my bad weather backup plan but I'm worried I'll get bored with the repetition of the scenery.

And I went to the clinic last night and I'm officially out for at least the next two weeks. It could be one of two things and I've been fitted with a walking boot to try to fix one or both of them. At my two week follow up, we'll see how it's feeling and it should positively identify what the issue is and if it's problem A, I will likely need to be hard casted for about a month. *sigh*
