 Torino and surroundings

Has anyone been to Torino? I am planning a few days there this July so would love any input on things to do, places to stay, etc.

I lived there for a year a while back. While it doesn't have the magnificent ruins like Rome or Florence, it does have interesting things to see. The centre/downtown is a great place to stroll through the porticos and see some 17th - 19th century buildings and churches. There is some good shopping too. The Palace of Stupinigi (the royal family's hunting palace) is just on the outskirts and is quiet and pretty. There's also a church (Basilica di Superga) on a hill near downtown that has a nice view. The Mole Antonelliana also has a nice view of the city and Alps. I haven't been back since the Olympics so I don't know if there's anything worth visiting related to that. The Parco Valentino along the Po River is pretty for a stroll too.

You're also very close to the Alps and there are some great areas nearby to hike/walk (although I can't remember any offhand). The areas of Asti and Alba outside of town are known for their wine and truffles and would be nice to visit if you have a car.

Have fun - hope you have a great time!
