 Hawaii in Winter/Rain Season?

We are planning another trip to Hawaii next winter, between December and February - which also happens to be rain season in Hawaii! Unfortunately we can't alter these months. We went for our honeymoon in September, which was just perfect weather the entire time.

Does anyone have experience visiting Hawaii during these months, and does it really rain THAT much, or is it doable? I would really hate to have our vacation spoiled by rain! We've been told that it can rain around 6 or 7 days non-stop. We are planning on visiting Maui and Oahu, maybe checking out the Big Island for a couple of days only, if that helps.

We went Feb a couple years ago...around Valentine's day. It rained in the evening once, the night before we left Maui to come home after a week. We met some locals on the beach who said it rained the whole week prior to our arrival. So I guess you never know! At least when it rains there, it's a warm rain tongueold

We did 10 days on Kauai in February once. I really don't remember much rain at all. No experience with the other islands though.

You could maybe use this map as a guide to plan on where to spend the most time. Stick to the orange as much as you can...

Thanks for that map - looks like much of Maui is fairly dry and that's where we'll spend the most time, I think. I guess just staying west is safe on any island!

I have been twice during that time frame (once in January, once over Christmas) to Maui, and never really had bad weather. I remember it rained on Christmas Day, and I remember a few evening rains, and once it rained on the day we left.

Thanks girls - we've actually been able to change the trip to November. Glad to know that December/January is still alright though! I would love to be there for the whales giving birth!!
