Has anyone ever made one? I'm thinking about making one for DD and I have the instructions, etc but I'm debating what kind of fabric to use. Hoping people on here have made some and will share the results!

Actually we were thinking of making one for our DD, I have been trying to find pics but having a hard time. I would love one with fabric that is bright and cheery. Hoping someone has pics on here...

Here's our headboard. I bought/ordered the fabric from a home decor place in town. DH bought the wood from Home Depot. He put it together and I stained it.

DH cut one big panel with plywood then I glued on a piece of upholstery foam (from an upholstery store). This was wrapped in batting and stapled on the back side. I then wrapped all of it with the final fabric and stapled again on the back side. DH made the frame and we placed the fabric covered plywood in the frame.

Cynful, your headboard looks fantastic! I would have never guessed that you made that!

Does anyone mind sharing how much their headboard cost? I know the materials like plywood, etc isn't expensive but I figure I may spend a lot on fabric and batting.

Ours wasn't cheap - I think it was ~$600. But it was way cheaper than some of the design stores quoted me, they wanted $1500+ for basically the same thing. We didn't mind spending some money on it as we wanted something sturdy (it's 4 inches thick) that would last.

Fabric - $150
Foam, batting and spray glue - $100
Wood, stain and varathane - $350 (we used furniture quality oak)

One question foro you, does your bed have a skirt on it? (like it's on a bedframe) or did you make up a wood frame too?

We made an upholstered box spring. It involved beefing up the base of the box spring (the one that we bought with the mattress) with 2x6s, covering the sides with fabric and then attaching wooden feet to the base. It was super easy - here's a pic.

Our headboard isn't attached to the box spring, they are 2 separate pieces.
