Hey!

It looks like May 1st will still remain our move-in day - yippee!

They've also started painting the exterior with some of the bolder colours (shades of blue)...FH wasn't too sure on them at first, but I am growing to love them! I think they will be very "west coast" once the house is done.

Staircase is in (gee...I hope I didn't post about this already And is awaiting staining - it looks great!

The kitchen cupboards have begun going up...but no pictures because we can't get into the house anymore (without an appointment) and the windows are so dusty it is hard to take a good pic

Appliances have all been ordered...I apologize if I've already mentioned this...lol...I also blog about this, so I forget what I've talked about and what I haven't lol

FH and I were out shopping this weekend for house stuff ideas...we saw some patio sets we like...FH like one in Red and I had to remind him the colour of our house...lol...we're used to white or brick houses where it didn't matter...lol

Yay! Soon to be off this list. Not that I haven't felt happy, but I'll be happier once I'm IN MY HOUSE! So excited. Notified the post office to forward my mail today. I was surprised, it was only $40 for 6 months, i thought it would be way worse.

Youngbride, your possession date moved back

Happy House Buying!

OK - So I waited until the April thread to mention how my "encounter" with the sales rep went the other day in regards to moving our closing up....

I see her view - but it doesn't fully make much sense to me... She tells me that its a priorty type list - people that bought before me are still waiting to get into their homes and that I'll have to wait my turn. But how is this my fault if we purchased a until that had already been started and is on schedule for the end of June?? (remember we requested a later closing just in case we couldn't sell our place)....

She then proceeds to tell me that our neighbor in the same unite had to move his closing to the first week in June because of delays.... (from May to June)... SO I said we just want to move in in July....

I seriously thought I was going to freak out at her... she told me that she would ask the sight foreman closer to May... but I figure as long as the cabinets come in and are installed within the next few weeks we'll be good for July ... no?

Well ladies, tonight is the last night in our condo and then we will be moving into DH's parents house for 3 months until the house closes. I guess the time will fly but I'm hoping that the closing date will get moved up. We have no updated pics even though we go by the house every week but that's because the evil security man won't let us go in

Congrats to those who already moved and good luck to those in the process. I know I haven't been around much but with the buyers of our condo moving up the closing by 2 months, we were a little strapped for time and energy.

As of next week, I'll probably be back and posting more

No progress for me. We haven't seen our finial plans yet since they messed the last ones up.

The weight restrcitions are off the road on May 26th so my guess is that they'd start mid-june. Do you think I will be in my house by August 29th if they start in June?

I am so angry that they lost 3 months of construction because they are disorganized.

So we decided to go in the house today again since our agent mentioned that once the cabinet guys are in they write the date/company name on the wall - I didnt notice anything Sunday so we went to check - and yup, they measured for cabinets a week ago!!!

They also (sometime between Sunday afternoon and today) brought in the tub/shower surround for the main bath, the shower stall and the whirpool tub for our ensuite. EXICITING!!

Things are happing!!! Since it was after work we dont have pics but we'll go this weekend and take pics

Want to hear something crazy? When I first added my home ticker, it said something like "2 years, 6 months...until I move into my condo." We ended up buying a different condo so that knocked 4 months off the countdown but the point is, I've been waiting a LOOOONG time. Ok, now I can look at my beautiful ticker.

So.. we're nicely settled and I'll add some pics soon. We also learned that we're going to be neighbours with Lauraandgreg out our backyard. (They'll share the back part of our fence.)
It was funny how we met... We had just moved in that day and I looked out the back window, easy at the time as there were no blinds, and saw two people peering in the back door across the snow. Actually he had gone into the house. We invited them over, offered free boxes and struck up some conversation. I made the WB connection later.

Anyway, we've already had our housewarming and were able to fit at least twice as many people as we could comfortably fit in our old house. I'm excited about that.

Also, for those who might remember, the builder's lawyer messed up and somehow put $22,000 in upgrades into the cost of our house that we no way got. So, our lawyer said he would take care of it. My fiance was hoping to get back at least some of his deposit he put on the house to cover lawyer, blinds, moving, flat screen tv, etc.
Well, the lawyer called the other day - apparently he has a $22,000 cheque for my fiance. Well, even though our mortage will be a little bigger we're planning on using the money to put in central air, sod the backyard, put in a fence and deck, put money into RRSPs, etc.

jumpinjax -- small world eh? How nice to have a "WB friend" so close! Even nicer about the $22K in cash! That's like getting a kick-a$$ cash back mortgage without all of the horrible fine print!!! Sounds like you are planning on putting it to good use too! Sod is a good thing

Brocksgirl -- you've been waiting 2 YEARS? Oh my. I don't know how you've done it! Kudos to you! Looks like its down to just over 5 weeks now though! Yay!

Hey Girls. I've been away for a while, first honeymoon then just too busy at work Not much to update here. We have a foundation and DH is really excited that the driveway will be longer than we thought it would be. We've started doing some furniture shopping too (well more like window shopping... no more room for stuff lol). We know what dining table and bedroom set we're going to get and when we have to order to have in time for the house. Although DH broke the rules last night and bought a home theatre system Did I mention that we're living with my parents while waiting for the house? lol

Good luck to all of you who are closing this month

The day we went and signed papers the sales rep offered us June 28th as our closing date... because we didn't think that would be enough time to sell our place we requested an August closing instead...
However - we did ask for it to be moved from August to July if we sold earlier and the sales rep said no problem. But we also asked that just because our closing was august did that mean that they were going to stop working on our unit and go do someone else's unit and she said no- that they finish each block and then move on to the next.
From what I understood from the weekend - they are completely on schedule for early June...

*fingers crossed for a June/July closing*

Well, if they're already painting then the should do the floors and all they would have to wait for is the cabinets. Our house was to the priming stage in January, when we put down our deposit and we picked all our colours (floors, cabinets, paint, etc.) and it was basically done a week before we moved in, about mid-march, so I doubt you have anything to worry about except your cabinets.

ANOTHER UPDATE!!

We did our weekly drive by .... after climbing thru all the mud and almost loosing my shoe - I got to peek threw the front door window...

The tile in the entrance way has been laid (and looks amazing if i may add)!!!!

Saw the painted walls too... I would assume that the hardwood will be next... but no sign of that on the property.

YAY for tiles and paint!

amanaka - the house is looking great!

Nifer - you have tile and paint already and you don't move for another 4 months?! That's crazy! Our tile only went in over the last couple of weeks and we move in this month.

As for our update, we kind of started to go through things in this house today. We have SO much stuff!! And so much to do!! I'm starting to feel overwhelmed with it all so we came up with some dates today to get certain things done with enough time so that we don't have to rush at the last minute.

As for the new house, the hardwood is finished and tile is almost done. Some of it has to be redone because the workmanship is pretty shoddy... we've been assured we're not the first ones with this problem and that it'll be done on time. The carpet guys dropped off stuff there yesterday so with any luck that'll be laid in the next couple of days. Same for the plumbing final. Oh, and the garage door is now in but not painted yet. Here are some pics:

Master bathroom:

Outside and garage:

I think that's enough... lol sorry if I bored anyone!

Just wondering if anyone else is feeling totally anxious about the move coming up? I am.

We bought our house a year ago and it's so weird to think that it's almost here. I'm SO excited to move and decorate a new place, but I hate hate HATE packing and moving and I'm completely stressed and overwhelmed by all of it. Also, even though we're moving I love our little house and kinda feel sad about leaving it.

Ha ha. I hope you were happy! So now why did they lay the tile in the kitchen wrong, but properly elsewhere... dumbarses.

Yup I was really happy to see that!! I should've taken some close ups of the actual tiling job though.. it's BAD! He has to go back and replace it all. The tile in the master bathroom doesn't even line up properly. When we told our site superintendant he said he's had a lot of complaints about tile from that guy.

Ya - I know - don't ask... The second I see the cabinets in there I'm running to the sales center and demanding an earlier closing... like honestly - which builder would rather have the place ready and EMPTY for weeks rather then closing on the property and receiving their money??

My brother who's moving across the street from us is closing before we are and his place is at least 6 weeks behind ours... (and he's closing the first week of July).

So far my only regret with the new place is requesting a later closing... Now its just a PITA to try and get it moved up even though its completely ahead of schedule!!

I would definitely see if you can get an earlier closing!! I'm sure they would WANT you guys to take possession earlier so that they can get their money.

I know how you feel though. We were told our house would take 8-12 months and we told them when we purchased that we were fine with however long it takes. At the time we were thinking that we wouldn't mind waiting since we had the wedding and wanted to make sure we had everything we wanted, etc. We regret saying that because our house sat there for sooo long while everyone else's was getting worked on.

SoInLove ? Your house is looking great! I think the blue looks great! May 1st is less than a month away!:)

Youngbride ? Your closing date is SO soon and the house looks beautiful! We choose very similar (if not the same) colour for our cabinets as well. What kind of countertop did you choose?

Sidney ? Your date is SO close!!!! You must be so excited!

amanaka ? Glad to hear that you can see progress. That?s exciting.

Nifer520 ? Sucks about the hassle you?ve had. Hoping you can move your closing up to July.  And congrats on the painting and tiles being done. One more step closer.

mrsmat2b ? saw your house in your initial post. It is GORGEOUS!!! I am actually taking the pic?s of your kitchen and using it for possible inspiration for our backsplash. It is to DIE for!

NicoleA ? Sorry about the lack of progress. Hopefully now with the nice weather they?ll be able to start catching up.

kattyb ? Sweet deal on the hook-ups!

Brocksgirl ? I know what you mean about your ticker! It?s like the wedding all over again! Your PDI is soon! That is awesome. I don?t think we?ll get notice of ours until later. Post pics! We?ll have been waiting 2 yrs and 9 months by the time we move in so I feel your pain?and then some. Try living with your parents / in-laws for that time???

I think I got everyone or almost everyone (hard to do when your boss keeps walking into your office. Ha! Ha!) Congrats to all that have moved in and settled and to those who just purchased?.welcome! 

Well?not too much news for us. Our closing date is now May 28th. I think this is the LAST delay they can do. We went through some headaches with our stupid granite countertop but all seems to be ok now. Paid for the upgrade on our appliances last week. Bedroom set was purchased, found our dining set (Strucetube) and sofa set (Leons) so I think we?re ok with the necessary furniture needed for right now. Went shopping for patio furniture on the weekend to put in our balcony and found some cute pieces. Not much out there for condo owners though. Niche market. We?re just patiently waiting and trying to find things to do on the weekend so we?re not home and figuring out what to do with our ugly flooring that we?re getting and if we can afford to upgrade right away or wait a bit. DH talked to the guy that sold us the condo and said that first people s/b moving in early to mid-May. As soon as those doors open?.6th floor please!

So, we have a house update and it is kind of annoying. Before we left for Vegas (what a fun place!) we did a drive by of the house and peeked in the windows. We noticed that they had put the flooring down, but?it was the WRONG colour. We had signed off (and have the emails to prove it) on one of 3 choices (it was annoying how there were only 3 to choose from?none of which we were in love with?oh well). Our finial colour choice was called "rustic pine." I'm 99% sure they put "cherry" down. It does look very nice, but it is the WRONG colour. Why give you a choice if they just put whatever colour down?? So we let our Realtor know about the problem and then head to Vegas.

When we got back into town last night we decided to do another drive by to see if they had rectified the problem. Nope?still the same flooring only now the baseboard is up?

We called our agent to see what is going on? He FORGOT to call the developers Realtor to let him know about the floor - WTF!? Anyhoo, he calls him them and the Realtor that is managing the development tells our Realtor that he believes the colour is correct, but he will double check. He also wanted our Realtor to let us know that he would like us to stop going by the house and that we are becoming a "nuisance" or something to that effect. I had to LMFAO (sorry for the "language" but I am peeved!) ?um?I think it is pretty normal when people are waiting for their house to be built to check it out every now and again - it's pretty exciting stuff. We are not breaking any rules by going into the locked property, we're just walking around it or driving by? I'm so not impressed with his response - AT ALL.

Another annoying thing about the house that I've been trying to let go of, was during one of the last Saturdays that the Show Home was open we went to get the hard hats to look in the house?we noticed that they had put all of the pot lights and electrical in and had dry walled it, but the speakers holes were missing (for surround sound). We were worried that they had forgotten to do this?and it was easier to do this before the drywall went up?anyway, we told Mike the developers Realtor about it and he said he would check on it and get back to us. Well after a week goes bye and I send a follow up email (sorry for being an nuisance ;p) to see what is happening and this was the response:
"You'll be happy to know you are all wired up. They are buried for the time being, as it keeps the ceiling from having wires and whatnot flailing all over the place. Right before you move in we'll get them out and make sure they look nice, but we've already done them and they are hiding safely under the drywall."

We call bullsh*t on this, but are letting it go because as long as the speaker holes are there when we move it, we don't care. My point with the speaker story is that we are trying to be on top of what is happening with our house - I don't think calling/emailing about two items is being a nuisance?I mean we're talking about a $400K house here (even if it was a $60K house?it is a lot of money!)!
Grrr?we are so annoyed about it. I mean, wouldn't they rather know about the mistakes sooner than later so they can fix it? We close in a matter of weeks, I don't want to be having to move our couch and tables so they can change the flooring once we've moved in! And, if they are unable to change it, they should be offering us something for their mistake - kwim?!?! We'd be OK with the floors if they'd comp us some of our upgrades. My sister's Dad whom is a builder, estimated $3-$4K to rip up the floors and put down new flooring...

Here is a picture form another house of what the floor is supposed to look like (not the best picture):

And here is a picture similar to the colour that is installed (I'm 99% sure anyway):

So annoyed!
On a happier note our house is almost finished being painted!

nifer - congrats!!

kattyb - its cute! You must be so excited!!

We dropped by our place yesterday after work and they have started insulation and drywall.....which seems weird to be because nothing is roughed in yet. I thought plumbing and electrical rough-ins would be before insulation...weird.

Also, we are listing privatly with www.skhomes4sale.com and they are coming to take pics of our place tomorrow night.... the listing will go live next Friday (18th) when we get home from Toronto.

And the same model as our house just sold on mls for $100,000 more then we are paying to build it!!!!!!!!! INSANE!!!! I am so glad we signed when we did! We just made piles of money on our place lol

Ladies....I am SO exicted I cannot contain myself!!! DH came home yesterday and said we had a letter from the builder. I swear I thought there was another problem and I was gonna freak! Turns out, they scheduled our PDI and told us about parking, locker space and when we get our key!!!!

Our PDI is scheduled for May 14th @ noon. We can get the key on the possesion date May 28th b/w the hours of 9 - 4pm. I have to call today to schedule our elevator time. I'm REALLY hoping to have it the same day as possesion so we can be in that day and THAT will be the LAST day I have to spend a night in someone elses house!!!

Well I'm still here I haven't posted much lately, been kinda down in the dumps, I had a miscarriage two weeks ago and last week I was in the most pain I have ever been in, I had surgery last week too, so my physical pain is all but gone Now I'm letting my emotional part of me heal.

But on to our house

- Posession has been moved to May 31
- We went to the house on Saturday but I didn't go in by DH tells me that it is all but drywalls so thats good
- we also have siding on the house so that great too

but on the negative side.

- we still haven't sold our house its been on the friggen market since last October!!

So retarded, we have just lowered our house price again before our showing tomorrow and our open house on the weekend, I really hope it sells soon, we don't have much time left, and with all my stress I really need some of it lifted off my shoulders, because if ew don't sell we won't be moving into our beautiful new home!!!!!!!! GAH!!! So if anyone is looking to buy in Calgary please send them my way!!!!!!!!!!!

Lisa that's great news!!! Yay, finally

Chelle *hugs* I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage and the trouble you're having selling. I hope you get an offer soon.

My update - we have our walkthrough scheduled for next Wednesday (16th) at 2pm. It'll be hard to have to wait a full two weeks after that for possession, but I'm glad we have a time. The carpets are in and the appliances and plumbing final should be any day now. I'm getting excited! We haven't done any packing (other than 4 boxes of DVD's) yet so we really need to get on that this weekend.

We're having issues with the tile still. It's not been laid straight so we have to get them to redo it and they might not be able to do it before we move in. It's frustrating!

Chelle, I saw your sad news on BB's. I'm so sorry. My heart just breaks for you. I hope everything goes smoothly with the house selling.

So I'm a little frustrated. We keep hearing different information from different people. We were told that we would get a final inspection (from friends, family, yada yada), but our agent says no, we don't get in the house until we pay. Our laywer is an idiot. i know time is valuable, but taking 5 minutes to explain something that you start now ie how much you're charging me will save you 5 minutes in the future. A pox on your house. He definitely won't get my money when we go to sell. I don't know if our agent will either for that matter. Ticked with her emails too.

So question, did you pay, then see if you bought? Or did you get a walk through and then pay? I mean these people could be fine, but what if they put a hole in the wall moving their bed out or they don't clean the stove or the dishwasher doesn't work? Tough for me?

It doesn't seem to matter how many times I bring it up, they just won't let me in. And they had a gazillion sat. dishes on the roof. They told me they didn't damage, but those are HOLES in the freakin' siding. Holes don't count? Thanks for letting me vent, I think if I bring it up with FH anymore he'll smother me in my sleep.

Oh and on top of all these papers and phone calls for my residency and the DISASTER of a house I have, the landlords showed our place today. And we had no water. "Hi welcome to my hell hole. It looks like a disaster because it is. Oh you noticed I smell, it's because we don't have water 4 days of the week, neither will you. Oh, and the neighbour, in addition to dealing, puts her cat out at 4am so he can wail and wake you up. Enjoy." Yeah, I'll really cry buckets over moving.
