Do you keep something on your dining room table?

If you have a centrepiece, what is it and where did you get it? I am thinking of getting something, but have no idea what the style is these days ( or if it is even still considered 'ok' to have a centrepiece!)

i usually have a square plate with candles.

Or this long bowl I got from DH that was made in a glass store in quebec, its painted glass, about a foot an a half long. Flat sides.

With fruit, or some decorative balls in it

Yep usually something. For awhile we had a crystal bowl with faux lemons in it since that was our colour theme.

In the summer we sometimes have fresh cut flowers.

Right now we just have a fruit bowl with real fruit in it smile

Yup, I do.

Right now, I have a flat woven basket with scented pine cones in it, but that's just because I'm too lazy to change it to something else. tongueold

In the spring/summer, I prefer flowers from my garden, or a bowl of fruit.

I have a rectangular glass vase planted with succulents. And a bunch of random crap that gets left on the table that isn't 'decorative' like mail, magazines and other bits and pieces.

We have a vintage silver tray, sometimes with a glass terrarium on it, and sometimes with a vase of flowers (today I have tulips!).

I have a five pronged (maybe not the right word!) candelabrathat DH found at Sally Ann's for 3 bucks. It sits on top of a silvery cloth napkin (it was scratching our table).

Currently, nothing.

I do want to try keep fresh flowers on the table at all time, though.

I have a Dansk tray like this, but mine doesn't have dividers. I can't find the exact on on their website.

I have a table runner (that I knitted) and large candle holder with a large candle in it. I haven't put in the spring decorations yet. I switch out the candle for balls or something else depending on my mood/season.

I have 3 large hurricane candles holders.

Two of these on either end with pillar candles:

I just have the place mats in a pile and then an antique candy bowl that is this really cool brushed glass. DH's grandma gave us the bowl and she got it from her grandpa.

teeth currently, there is a sewing machine, a serger, sewing supplies, glue, wire, tools, papers and x2 large clam shells, a lantern.
We have a 8.5' harvest table though, so we can load lots of crap onto it easily........

When it isn't being used as a assembly line, I alternate between the two large clam shells (full of lemons and limes) at either of the ends, with a lantern in the centre, OR 4x large tall cylinder glass vases with coloured seashells in them, OR sometimes a tall vase with a Monstera leaf or two.

Nothing but mail and sometimes my lunch kit from work. We are really trying to stop using our dining room table as a "catch all". Trying!

Right now our dining table is dh's office. So it's covered in a laptop and a stack of business books.

Normally it just has one of those metal nested circle sculptures on it that spins. And it will again once school is done.

Thanks for responding everyone.

Our table is a catch all and I am hoping that if I get a centrepiece, perhaps I'll be more inclined to keep it tidy looking smile So many great ideas have been posted!

Plants. My dining room is almost all window. There are only the two of us and we eat on the island all the time. When we have company, I just move the plants. I would love to have a pretty centerpiece but plants grow amazingly in that room.

We have a long, curved, flat piece of pottery that we were given as a wedding gift in the middle of our table. But that varies.

I alternate between 2 different arrangements. One is a blue and white bowl with different porcelain balls with different blue patterns. The other is a tall glass mikasa vase with long dried stems/plants.

The bowl and balls are from Bombay. The vase is from the Bay and the plants are from Home Sense.

Typically something seasonal in 3 giant apothecary jars.

Here's a poor photo around Valentines, trying out a new linen tablecloth hahaha. The jars were raided of their chocolate a LOT by this point, so you're only seeing a little bit of the foil-wrapped hearts. (please excuse the bare, sad looking room. Still trying to decide paints, curtains, etc. around the house)

At Christmas, I had shimmery ornaments.

Right now, they have plastic Easter eggs.

Sometimes fruit goes in them if I know they're going to be used soon (ie. pre-party where I'll be making a lot of fruity drinks)
