New Mattress

We're in the market for a new mattress...

What do you look for in a mattress? Spring count? Warranty, etc?

Where did you find the best price?
What mattress/brand do you have and would you recommend it?

Make sure that you can flip the mattress, not just rotate it!

We bought a pillowtop last time with the 'pillowtop' only on one side. This means that we can only rotate the mattress, not flip it, and it has worn way faster than it should have.

For our next mattress, either it will have the pillowtop on both sides (does this exist?) or (more likely) we'll buy a non-pillowtop and then buy a really good mattress pad/cover.

This is going to sound crazy but IKEA has really great mattresses at really great prices. We have a memory foam bed from IKEA and it is one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on and it only cost us $600 and has a good warranty too. Both my kids have regular foam IKEA mattresses and they love them too.

I had a Simmons beautyrest before but for some reason I was having chronic back pain for years until I switched last year to the Zen body made by Stearn & Foster. It's a little more like tempurpedic (but not as pricey) and so far I'm loving it.

p.s. the first time we looked for mattress, I listened too much to the sales explaining how the mattresses were made (spring bla bla bla, etc etc) after years of back pain, I learned my lesson and I tried out the mattress, lying on each one for at least a good several minutes - some people do even more. I think that's more important than anything else.

Thanks for the feedback ladies!

lastone - we don't have an Ikea here so unfortunately we can't go with that.

Has anyone bought the "Trump" mattress at the Brick?
What about Sealy thru Costco?

We actually looked at the Trump mattress and you are paying for the name. The sales agent said that you are basically paying $500 more for the name and the money would be better spent on a different mattress. That being said, we bought a simmons and it is less than 4 months old and we are having issues with it. The brick has 180 day guarantee that you can replace the mattress at no costs

We have to get there without the kids and pick one out

We bought this set Sealy Posturepedic Natural Origins Dandelion and we love it! It is listed as firm but I'd say it's plush. It contours every curve so I no longer wake up with my arm sleeping and a sore shoulder if I sleep on my side. We also got a king size mattress and because our sitars to the second level are a switch back (kwim) a mattress with coils would not have fit. We are both large and we have had the mattress for two months and there are no indents but we can't rate it long term.

When comparing prices always 1/2 the sticker price of any mattress set as they go on sale like every second week. Our set from costco I knew there was a sale coming up so I waited but I would have paid the non sale price too. And you can't beat their return policy. Maybe it was because our old mattress was so terrible that we love this one so much but I recommend it.

We bought at Sleep Country several (7) years ago when we bought. Like a PP said, don't ever pay full price, they go on sale SOOOOOOO often. We got our $2400 set for $1200. It's a Kingsdown pillowtop and was/is amazing, we'll likely be looking to replace in the next couple of years.

We bought a memory foam mattress, similar to Termpurpedic but half the price. We love it! I don't think I will ever go back to a spring mattress again. My body doesn't ache like it used to in the morning.

Definitely test out a memory foam mattress.

We bought a Serta Perfect Sleeper about 5 years ago and LOVE IT. Last month on vacation I had a really great sleep and decided to check the mattress - it was a Perfect Sleeper too! That being said, I tested every mattress at the store and only liked that one. Everyone has different needs when it comes to sleeping comfortably and you have to go with what feels right to you.
