HELP! Bedroom Decorating on a Budget *PICS*

I am asking for your help/suggestions/opinions/ideas. Have you ever started off with an idea, then looked at so many other ideas that you lose your original idea and end up confused? Well that's what has happened to me and I need someone to throw me a life saver. I'm a bit frustrated and confused so here's where you come in.

Currently our bedroom is painted "Peanut" by Benjamin Moore. It looks waaay more orange in the pics for whatever reason, but I assure you, it is NOT orange. We've recently had to take down our bed frame and fabric. We used to have a big 4-poster bed with fabric drapes from the ceiling. So now we are left with no headboard/footboard and no bedside tables and an armoire/dresser that I'm not crazy about.

So what to do... what to do? I like the idea of dark wood that's all the rage, however, I don't really feel like the cost of buying *all* new stuff. I'd like to try to work with what I've got if at all possible. Also, I'm not crazy about headboards that are solid but I could live with one. I have thought of platform beds but I'm not sure how well it would go with the colour scheme.

The current colour scheme is browns/creams. I don't mind painting a different shade. Normally, I'm more of a clean lines/contemporary fan but I think for bedrooms I'm still hooked on a bit of a "romantic" "relaxing" feel. So I happened to stumble upon a wrought iron sleigh bed. Not something I would usually go for BUT it is a nice brown iron (not black) and it is solid (not tubing). I can use just the headboard (which I'm thinking of doing) or the headboard and the footboard. And I rather fell for this bed, plus it?s a pretty good deal price wise I also found these cute cream wood bedside tables which I think may work with the sleigh bed.

I?m not really attached to anything in our room but I do like the curtains. And FFIL is going to help put up some crown molding. So what do you think? We?re going to check out the sleigh bed tonight and will need to decide on it tonight. Take a look at our room in its current state and give me some feedback!

I don't know why there's those shadows on the left hand side there - the wall is flat.

I like the bed! Now lets see... I know you said the paint colour is not how it is appearing in the pictures, but I can only judge what my eyes see It looks peachy and well peach is . I like the crispness of the colours in your bed photos, and how they contrast with the bed. I also think a paint colour to contrast with the bed would be very nice, something cool and crisp as well (unless you're more into warm and earthy?) I think the cool colours would make the space look more open and airy whereas the current colours are just closing the room in.

I'm having a hard time picturing cream tables, any pics?

I'm going to go search for some bedding/paint colour schemes for you

The thing that really stands out for me is the fact that there's no contrast. The bedspread blends into the wall which blends into the curtains. So I'd want a focal point with a bit of POP....whether it's a new bedspread, or art to go above the bed. From that I'd pull a few great tones to do throw pillows, accent items and the blinds. The other thing you could consider doing is an accent wall where for the wall where your headboard goes and popping the colour with some black and white or monochromatic accent art...but you'd have to be bold or dark with the accent wall colour.

I would paint light and bring more colour in with the bedding, curtains, and cushions, and either dark brown table lamps or clear glass.

ETA - if you're keeping your armoire/dresser you could go with a rustic/cottage type them(which the iron bed would fit well with)

yes, that's all true. I don't know why it makes everything have an orange hue but the walls are like a light brown and the bed is a weird colour with greenish tinge. I should have specified that the bed is just a sheet set (still so hot in my house). My winter duvet cover is a cream/light tan colour. BUT !! I'm open to getting a new one if you guys deem it necessary.

Any other opinions on the bed - yay or nay?

someone else also mentioned to me that I should paint/stain the armoire dark or creme and change the hardware accordingly. Opinions?

I agree with staining/painting the armoire dark. The bed isn't the same in this photo, but the room has the suggested dark wood & assesories and your current light bedspread & walls. Maybe add some nice white pillows to your bed.

Thanks for all your help so far! I really appreciate all of it and it has given me more to think about for sure.

As for the update, we did get the iron bed. I'm not hooked on the paint colour in our room and the more I look at it, the more I start to have a huge desire to paint over it. I do tend to like a cozy, romantic, bedroom and have tended to go for "nature" palette in the past. I'm thinking I may be going for something different. Since the bedframe is a nice brown iron, perhaps a green (like apple or lime)? That would still go with the cream bedspread I have (not shown). And if it ever stopped raining here (fat chance) I may be more motivated to stain the armoire a dark brown too, the other dresser may be getting taken right out of the room anyway.

If any of you have more ideas - feel free to post them as this is a process for me that won't be done overnight (unfortunately )

hey, the new bed frame sounds lovely!

We have a black brown metal bedframe and I've done the black/chocolate & lavender colors in my MBR.

I was inspired a pic in House & home of japanese gift wrap - it was a lavender colour with silvery sarukas & chocolate brown ribbon. So I went with a greyed down lavender that was soothing - I think it was DT "heather" - I did a feature wall with a darker tone of the mauve, painted on a cherry blossom tree between the closet doors and did the closet doors & trim in a creamy white - CIL's "Crisp Linen".

I hung up my B&W pics, conte sketches - framed in those simple black metal frames from Opus framing over the bed & dresser to keep the black moving around. My side tables re the match with the bed-frame, lamps are brushed nickle with textured chocolate shades, the curtains are dark brown with lavender sheers underneath.

here are some oder pics

if you like greens - here is the spare room - I painted the walls in Pale Sage by CIL

it's a very soothing green and seems like everyone loves that colour when they see it.

Looking at what you have so far, I think you are off to a great start. The pieces you have will work together, and I would hesitate painting the furniture until you look alittle more into what you want to do. I would reccommend that you focus on some accesories like materials, cloth, a chandiler etc.

I also think that your wall could work if you wanted it too.

These following images are just to give you some inspiration...

We painted our MB two different shades of brown, the wall that our bed is against is a dark chocolate brown. Our sheets right now are a lighter shade of brown, and we are saving up for a nice set of black sheets (shams, comforter cover, etc.) Our really good sheet set is a nice sage green...

I like the pictures over the headboard idea. But don't chose ones that are too big, you don't wanna close up the space
