Mommy guilt - going on vacation without my LO

My DH surprised me with a trip to Cuba for Valentine's Day. I will be going with my best friend for a girls trip and it is so exciting and awesome but I am having extreme guilt about leaving my LO!! She will be 10 months old and my mother and hubby will be watching her while I am away so I know she will be in good hands,I just can't help thinking I am such a bad mom for leaving her!! I NEED REASSURANCE!!

She will be in good hands and think of it as this: this vacation will help you be an even better mommy that is relaxed!

p.s: I was speaking to the government about mat leave benefits (i'm going to the US in April with DH and DD) as to if i need to notify them...they said if i go outside the country, it's fine as i will still get paid, but only if i have DD with me!....so i'm not sure if this is true (I find i always get contradicting info when i talk to reps from the government) but thought i would give you a heads up.

I don't know how old your LO is right now but I'd think by 10 months you'll be ready for a trip! I know I would totally miss DD like crazy but if this was an opportunity for me I wouldn't have to think too hard about it! What a wonderful gift. Enjoy it.

As for mat leave, don't really know how that works.

I would feel the same as you but I would not let it stop me from going and enjoying. You deserve 7 days of R&R and cutting loose after 10 straight months of giving yourself day in and day out to your DD (not to mention the 9 months before that you spent brewing her). smile
And not that its required, but the old 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' is never a bad thing!

Have a great time.

I would be torn like you, but could definitely use a vacation and some girl time. Enjoy your vacation, I hope you have a fantastic trip. What a great gift/surprise your husband gave you. You'll come back refreshed, recharged and rearring to go for another 10+ months.

Ugh, I have the same Mum guilt right now. I'm going to Vegas with my Mum next week for three nights and DD will be with DH. I know I'll miss them, but I also know I'll have a great time and they'll be just fine. Hope you have fun too!

I went for a girl's backpacking/hiking weekend when DD was 13 months and it was FABULOUS! I didn't have to worry about diapers or naps or anything for 3 whole days. Just because you're a mom doesn't mean to have to (or should!) spend every moment with your LO - you deserve to have a good time and enjoy yourself too. And it'll be a great chance for your LO to spend time with grandma and grandpa and develop a stronger bond with them.

Have a great time!!

I'm feeling the same way. DH and I have booked a cruise and Lukas will be 13 months by then but I can't imagine leaving him for 10 days. It kills me to even think about it. I hope by then I'll be ready for a vacation and not feel so guilty.

Kelli, that's awesome!!! When are you going? May? Charlotte will be fine while you're away... spending time with your hubby and her grandparents will be great for her! It will also be great for you! smile

Its interesting you post this! I am in the exact same boat! Down to the age! My in-laws are taking DH and I to Las Vegas in May--ALL expenses paid! We honestly won't likely ever get an opportunity like this again--but I am totally torn about leaving Owen (who will be 10 months old!) The hardest part is that he has been exclusively breastfed, and I will never be able to pump enough milk! :-(

I love reading the responses! It makes me feel a bit better!
