Man it makes me sad to think that in 2 weeks Lyla will be 2 months. Time really needs to sloooowwww down.

What's everyone upto this weekend? DH and I are going to go get our eyes tested this afternoon and depending on the weather (snow?!!) we'll be heading to PEI for a quick visit tomorrow.

S will be 2 months on Sunday - yikes!

This weekend we're going to a baby shower - some friends of ours have adopted a 7 month old baby boy - and they have only had a week to get ready for him, so they're having a shotgun baby shower. It's very exciting!

Also exciting? S gave me a 4.5 hour sleeping stretch last night.. with no screaming! smile

Happy Birthday Dimples!!

Chloe - Not doing to much this weekend, DH is suppose to be coming back from Newfoundland, and right now the ferry is off schedule so he'll be late getting home. Be careful driving cause I think we're suppose to be getting some wet snow and rain, lots of wind!!

Snoozles - that's awesome about the 4.5 hr stretch, no screaming on top of that, bonus!!

Mae - that's good LO is figuring out her days and nights!!

Dimples - that's awesome about Tyler's schedule

AllyT - Your Mother's Day is this weekend, awesome, well, Happy Mother's Day smile

Soon - Not sure if you seen my post on facebook, but I was wondering since your LO was early as well, if you go by her actual or adjusted age when your reading up on what she should be doing month by month. I find it so confusing because she's doing things she would be doing for her actual age, and adjusted...oy!!

AFM - Mother of God, my Mother is watching Road to Avonlea right now LMAO! I use to watch that all the time when I was little.

Keaton did awesome last night! No worries about the pooping as he filled his diaper over night...he actually slept for 6 straight hours! Do I dare hope that he has figured out his days and nights?

This weekend we are heading to my sister's place about 2 hours away for a visit and maybe to the grandparents on Sunday...or stay home and chillax smile

Happy April Fools everyone...did anyone get pranked today?

Happy Birthday 5D

We slept in today. We didn't roll out of bed until after 11 laugh He is a good little sleeper if he is bed with me! (He did however sleep in his bassinet from 9pm-4am with 1 dream feed, a huge accomplishment)

Weekend plans include a baby shower tonight and gathering up our crap for taxes. FX we end up with a decent return. New home buyers will help a bit.

Holy! Going on 6 hours here now without a nap! He will doze off for a few minutes then wake up crying and farting...and man those farts stink! I dunno whether to be concerned or not...I know the gas and such is pretty normal at this stage but at some point is it a sign of something more serious"? he has stinky gas when I was breastfeeding too and it continues with formula feeding...

It comes and goes I guess cause he never cries for more than a few minutes

Hi Ladies-

Ellie did not sleep more than 20 minutes yesterday. She was happy giggling baby from 530am until 8pm and then it all went downhill.
Managed to get her down, with no help from DH mind you, and she slept from 9ish to 530. She woke up SCREAMING. Like pain screaming. I think she was starving. But I was dead asleep so I was not so fast on the diaper change and she pee'd everywhere. DH got up and changed everything including baby and I fed her and put her back down again. She slept from 6 to 10...whoo hooo momma slept in! Then I go to check on her and she is smiling in her crib. I think "wow what a nice way to start the day" then I pick her up and there is crap EVERYWHERE!! Up her back all over her clothes and sheets. Everywhere. Ummm not so nice. Emergency bath!!

Happy April to me!! My baby is 12 weeks old today. Holy man the times flys.

LAC I replied on FB but I thought about it and I think E is following the milestones within 2 weeks of them supposed to be happening. Sometimes early sometimes later. Her sleep is dead on what it should be at 12 weeks.

We have mastered BF and only give her a bottle at night before bed. Mostly because I am lazy and want DH to feed her. Yesterday she refused all bottles but took one this morning. I was scared she decided boob is better!! That would be horrible at this late stage!!

I cried at Grey's just like I thought I would. DD loved all the singing!

and going on 9 hours.....seriously this kid is exhausted but refuses to sleep...or is in too much pain to sleep...he does cry like he has gas pain but I can settle him within a few minutes...only to go through that same cycle over and over...definitely the roughest day yet....we've been singing "It's Mom's birthday and I'll cry if I want to" all day long haha

Whoa I hear some serious farts coming out of him now...hopefully that means a better evening!

My guy is still go to bed at 8ish, wake up 12-1am then wake up at 4am and usually up again until 7ish.

The only time my baby sleeps through the night is if I swaddle her. I don't want to make that a habbit either, but she sleeps a good 5-6 hrs. After her 6:30am feed, she slept til 10am with out being swaddled...now usually in the day she'll nap for 30 mins if that...but this am she went til 10am...probably because she was in her bassinet in my room, nice and dark, when she naps during the day, she sleeps in her playard in the living room.

I don't know how you ladies are doing the long sleeps during the night without being swaddled but koodoo's to you all smile We haven't established a sleeping routine at night yet...I'll have to ask my doctor what her thoughts are on this, how early should we be starting her.

The only way my baby sleeps for more than an hour or two is with me in bed...maybe a bad habit to be doing but it's all about survival! Plus he is an odd breather...like it will seem like he stops and then starts gasping for air....sooo honestly I'm not sure I'd sleep very well with him in another room at this point either...I like to feel him breathing next to me

Well Max doesn't sleep horribly well but he does sleep in a woombie (so swaddled) and his sleep sack on our bed between dh and my head.

But we're up to about 5 hrs for his first stretch of sleep (about 10pm-3am) then up for about an hour to feed and get him back to sleep. Then I get to pump if necessary and when I go back to bed I get about an hour more sleep before he decides that it's playtime. I can usually keep him quiet and try to get him to sleep a bit more but we've been getting up around 7am as that's when he starts to eat and starts to cry.

5_Dimples - Happy Birthday! Sorry Tyler is being so stubborn with his naps! We've been going through the exact same thing with Marah for the past 3-4 days. It's so frustrating!!!! She's uber fussy too and freaks if I put her down when she's awake. I'm hoping that with Marah it's a growth spurt because she's been eating SO much. Hopefully they will get back to their old napping selves pretty soon.

I was so desperate for some downtime today that after Marah's 4:30am feeding (she went right back to sleep) I opted to get up, pump, have a LONG shower, make some coffee, throw in some laundry and watch Grey's that was PVR'd....all before DS woke up for the day at 6:30am...lol It was lovely!

Happy Birthday 5D smile

I hear you on the nap schedule. We went a few days were he would cat nap only during the day and even at night he would be up every 3 hours, sometimes earlier.

He isn't quite 2 months yet, but we are trying to set a bedtime routine up so that it helps him realize day and night. So we have a feeding at around 6 or 7, he has a nap, then bath at around 9 or 10, feeding and in bed for hopefully a long stretch smile

if we're talking sleep, Andy's daytime sleep is very hit and miss. some days it's only a handful of 5-15 min cat naps. other days I get the odd 2 hour sleep in there.

For night sleep I can't complain. We swaddle (miracle blanket) and she generally sleeps 7:30/8- then dreamfeed at 11pm- 3:30AM bottle or boob feed- then awake for the day at 7am when her brother the noise machine barges into our room. So really not counting the dream feed one wake from 8-7am.

But, my pity post involves the damn fact that I've had mastitis 3 friggin times since Andy was born, and twice in the last week. Each time a different duct on a different boob. I had it really bad on sunday but it cleared up by monday so I skipped the antibiotics, but then got it on the other boob yesterday though not so bad (red inflamed blocked duct, aches and fatigue but no fever). I swear, my boobs hate me right now for some reason. It makes no sense since I'm not doing anything different than i did with Ben, but somehow I'm just prone to it and it's awful.

Someone needs to teach me this dreamfeed thing. I never heard of it. And DS often naps during our tv time in the evenings like anywhere from 9pm - 12am. It'd be nice if I could easily feed him and get him back to sleep.

Hey Everyone!

I know, I know, MIA again!

Things are ok here. Georgie is hit and miss with her sleeping. Some nights she has good nights, other nights I want to pull my hair out. Plus it seems that both my girls are impossible of having a good night on the same night! Last night, Hadley was awake like 5 times. I brought her into bed with me (DH was in the city for the night) and she is such a restless sleeper that I hardly slept. She woke up at one point, still asleep, and was trying to take her pajamma shirt off and was flipping out because she couldn't get it off! I finally had to unbutton it for her so she could take it off. She wasn't even hot or anything as I like to sleep in a cooler room.

As for me, I have this stupid cyst thing in my neck that flared up on Wednesday and is super super sore! It is basically like a huge pimple deep in the skin and it hurts like a mofo. I went to the doctor yesterday because I started to get really paranoid about it. She told me to basically suffer through it. Put a hot compress on it every hour (yay right, like I have time for that!) and it will either come to the surface and drain or will simply go away. I've been taking advil too because the pain and swelling was driving me nuts. It is making my whole neck hurt. Ugh.

DH was away last night and is away again tonight. We are going to head intot he city tomorrow morning as two nights alone with these two is pretty much my limit and he has to stay tomorrow night again. Yay for boat repairs. tongue So we will head to the inlaws for a night or two so I can get some help. Even though they drive me batty half the time with my MIL always comparing everything to her own experiences, my FIL and his stupid stupid jokes and comments and my BIL's inability to chew with his mouth CLOSED! GAH!

At least it is the weekend and I can turn my phone off until Monday morning. Yay! Oh, but we do have a private charter tomorrow night at midnight. Pooh.

Oh BTW, Georgia is now 12 lbs 1 oz. Up 4 lbs 6 oz since birth! Porker! tongueold

Autumn- I hear you on not spending more than a few nights alone. DH has a few really busy days coming up in the beginning of May where he'll be working 6am-11pm every day. I think I'll go stay with his parents for a few days.

5_D- The dreamfeed- The point is that the baby doesn't actually wake up. DD goes to bed at 8pm, and at 10:30 or 11 DH goes in, picks her up without waking her up (she's swaddled so that makes it easier not to wake her), and gives her a bottle of 3oz. She usually only takes about 2oz but it's enough just to fill up her tummy that bit more. Usually she sleeps through until around 4am but the last couple of nights she's been up at 2am and again at 5:30 or so.

jenny - hopefully things get settled with your mastitis - yikes!

sleeping - I go to bed with her each night, and she sleeps in a woombie in the crook of my arm. Ever since I've been feeding her lying down she hasn't really screamed at night and she's been sleeping in longer stretches, so yay! Maybe eventually she'll be willing to sleep in her bassinet, but I don't know.

I feel like the bad mommy of the year award goes to me.. On Thursday I was cutting her finger nails and I accidentally nicked her thumb - she screamed so loud and I just felt awful - it bled!

Then last night we went out to eat and DH asked me to pass her across the table to him (we had to take her out of the car seat because she was fussy).. so I did and ended up hitting her head on the lamp above the table! frown I almost started crying myself.

Speaking of dinner, how's this for weird? A waitress (not ours) came up and started asking questions about Scarlett.. then she said, "Do you mind if I hold her?" I was kind of shocked and so I just said, "Sure" and she held her for like 10 minutes until her boss got mad at her for not working. I think I have to learn how to say no!

Another 2am wake-up call over here. I don't know what is going on but lately when Max wakes up in the middle of the night to eat he has a hard time getting back to sleep afterwards. So lucky me gets to stay up with him.

But what is annoying me is dh complaining that he is so tired from being awoken during the night-and he normally just stays in bed, rolls over and goes back to sleep-so he has to sleep in today. Ticks me right off as I seldomly get more than 5 hrs of sleep a day so if someone is going to sleep in I would love that opportunity. Plus dh generally gets to go to bed before me too but he doesn't like 'only' getting 8hrs sleep a day.

Grrrrr...angry

Plus since I've had to start supplementing him, Max seems so unhappy. He is having so much trouble pooping (he now has a poop face and seems to have to work to poop-but things are still very soft and not constipated). Makes him scream every time he goes.

We do not have a night time routine but I hope to set one up including baths and stuff. Right now she is awake from about 6pm until 9ish Eating every half an hour or so and then at around 9 we put on the night time diaper(Bum Genius that makes her butt HUGE) then I cuddle her to sleep while watching TV. Then I transfer her to the crib around 10 and then go to bed and hope for the best. Usually she will fuss a bit in her sleep after we transfer her but then settles down. Last night she went to sleep at 930 and woke up to eat at 730!! Holy moly my boobs were so sore!! She could not even latch onto them right. She gobbled for a bit but got frustrated. Then she threw up all over DH. Like I would guess about 150mL!! I hope that is how much she is eating off me! And then she passed out. So my boobs still hurt and DH is so disgusted he had a shower and is hiding downstairs.

Ahhh Saturday mornings! If there was not like a million cm's of snow then it would be the perfect morning! I hate Alberta!!

Hey guys,

We didn't end up going to PEI today, DH was worried about the highway conditions along the way. So we just went out and picked out my new glasses and to the mall. What a ZOO the mall was. Not to mention it sucks to have to wait for the little elevator because of the baby.

Soon- are you worried about your supply with going that long during the night without feeding?

So I take the baby to bed with me....he wakes up at 4:30 and DH is not in the room! He's downstairs on the couch! So I go down and wake him up...and it turns into a huge fight...one of our worst ever (we rarely fight). Of course being us....from the start of the fight, to the extreme fighting, to us crying and apologizing is only about an hour...but still takes a lot out of ya!

Oh and DS pooped 3 times during the night! Maybe that's what was making him so cranky yesterday..even though he pooped yesterday too...we did just switch to powdered formula...maybe he's not ready for that...or when we did the switch we stopped heating up his bottles as they are at room temp to start with...maybe he needs them warmed? Ugh such a mystery...my poor gassy baby

Yah, I was told that you shouldn't use powder until their a little older...something about the bacteria...I use the stuff that's already mixed, all I have to do is pour it in the bottle (measured first). I think soon though we're gonna start the mixed with water forumla.

I always warm DD's bottle before feeding it to her...I never give it to her at room temp.

DD misses her Daddy...he finally got on the ferry...talk about a long wait...he got to Port Aux Basques around 8pm and waited, in the CAR, til 1:30pm today when he was finally able to load. Oh my...the weather was really rough...but at least he's comingh home. I had him on speaker phone, DD was lying in bed with me, as soon as she heard his voice, she calmed right down, opened her eyes...it was sweet.

I pulled a muscle in my chest/back, talk about sore frown I was a total right off after supper last evening, thank God Mom was here to help me!

it depends who you ask I guess. SOme people say at 2 months it is okay...others say it's fine from birth...just not for premature or immune-compromised babies. DS was born at 38w6d so I consider him healthy and term so I think it's fine.

he seems to be much better today anyway...he might have been a little constipated from the switch (even though he never went long without going?) but after a few poops he seems happier and sleepy..

Well that's good Dimples. DD was a little fussy when I had her on Simulac...the I went back to Nestle and she's been better with that. She pooped twice today...it's so funny to be happy when your LO poops!

I've used powdered formula from the beginning with both DS and DD. There is NO literature whatsoever in the UK that says not to use it. It's funny how different the recommendations are, from pregnancy dos and don'ts to newborns. Actually the few times I gave DS premixed formula he had terrible gas. He was in agony.

DD went down for the night at 8pm tonight, with DS wide awake. Hurrah! I put the white noise machine back into her room and turned it up loud. She must have had a yucky tummy tonight as she projectile vomited all over me (and her nice clean jammies) right after her bath.

DH is out drinking at his cousin's stag party. So I have to do the dreamfeed and the middle of the night feed, and he's been warned he's getting up in the morning. There is no way I'm not sleeping in on Mother's Day!

Chloe-I am not really worried about the supply. She technically only missed her 5am feeding. I am hoping she eventually drops that one anyway. But my body sure noticed the missed feeding!! It took two feedings to get the pressure off my boobs.

I finally found "More Milk Plus". They are capsules that have fenugreek, bleesed thistle and fennel in them. I tried to order them on line two months ago but they can not ship to Canada. I found them at a little consignment store in town here. They are really working well!!

Hmmm, I wonder if I should take those instead of the Domperidone.

Soon yay on finding something to help with your supply. I can't imagine how sore you would have been after missing an entire feeding. Just being later than usual overnight leaves me sore enough so tjat just sounds painful.

Ally hope that you have a great night and that you get some spoiling tomorrow.

LAC ouch on the pulled muscle. Hope that you're feeling better soon (and that your extra set of hands was finally on his way home).

5D tongue to the fight with dh in the middle of the night.

Powdered formula...I'd never heard that and at our last appt, mt dr gave me two cans if powdered formula for us to try.

Hey girls, there is a post up in Misc. about sending breastmilk to a baby named Anaya in BC. She's terminally ill and can only stomach breastmilk.

Here's the link to the CBC newsclip:

For HRM girls, it sounds like Klassy Kids will be doing a collection on Monday and shipping it. Purolator has offered to deliver all collections for free!
