Runners - Week of April 18

I figured since I could use the support this week and there are quite a few runners on this forum, I'd start a thread.
Pre-pregnancy, I LOVED running for a whole bunch of reasons. The exhilaration, the extent to which I could push myself mentally and physically, the stress relief, the time to myself, the fresh air, etc. etc. I'm a long distance runner. I ran my best marathon just before getting pregnant.
Now, I'm training for a 10k race in Ottawa in May and I have to drag myself out. I don't love it as much as I used to. I don't know if it's my performance that's getting my down, maybe it's just the crappy weather... I was aiming for a finishing time but the way my training is going, I think I'll just aim to finish. If it weren't that runnning is helping me shed the pregnancy pounds, I don't know that I'd do it.
GAH! I don't like feeling this way. I'm really hoping better weather will put me back into the mental space I need to be in.
How are you guys doing?

I'm with you! I ran a 5K race back in March. It was a tough 5K and I usually love to race them. I was under my goal time but off from my "race" time. I decided to give it another go and have registered for one at the beginning of May but I've been out running only once since. I can't seem to find it in me to head out and train. I'm hoping that something will finally click and I'll be all gung-ho about running again.

Fingers crossed it's just the weather. I know it does take a while for our bodies to go back to "normal" but c'mon already. I just want to run!!!

I am on week 3 of C25K, and it's hard lol. I haven't run in many many years but I want to show my kid a healthy, active lifestyle, and running fits the bill, since I don't like sports. I am enjoying being out and moving, but have to say I'll be quite happy when I don't have to wear gloves! Brr. I'd be more motivated to get out there if the weather was nicer lol. My dog is enjoying it though, he's always thought I walk too slow lol.

I'm still lacking in the motivation department, and would love a weekly accountability thread. Great idea.

I only discover running after having DS, and used it to justify getting the jogging stroller. I ran 10K that summer and felt amazing. Now with two little ones, I just can't seem to get up at night to go out. But I have pledged to do the Scotia Bank Half in Toronto in October with a GF. And I got my new runners last week, so time to get moving!!!

I'm in! I'm on day 2 of the C25k. When I originally started running that is the program that I used and I figured it would be a great re-introduction after not running for 10 months. Pre-pregnancy I ran mostly 10k races, but I've done a couple of half's. There is a big 8k at thanksgiving that I'd love to run. In the past I've blogged for accountability, but this would be much better!

I'm in too. I'm training for the May 10k too. I've been training with a local group that's full of hardcore runners (tons of Boston peeps!) - I feel like the odd duck out!

My schedule is 4 days a week, and I've been doing pretty well at getting out for each run. I often don't want to go, but I don't have an excuse not to. DH has been great about making sure I have the time to get out.

I have hills on the schedule today...7 hills! I figure it'll be about a 6k run by the time I run to the hill and back.

I was doing well my first week back, then we got hit with more, and more and even more snow (seriously, we've had about 3 snowstorms in the past 10 days with 20+ cm each time!) My first week back into running I got out a total of 4 times and ran 4.5 K each time, and now haven't been out in over a week. But, it's nice out today, I'm itching to get out but of course have to wait until DH gets home. And usually by then I'm exhausted but I do love to get out for that 30 minutes by myself!

My pace is a lot slower than pre-pregnancy, but I'm still holding on to an extra 15-20lbs so of course I'm slower! After my first pregnancy I ran my fastest half marathon ever and felt great! Of course, then I got pregnant again. I found I got fast because I was only able to get out running for shorter periods of time so when I was out I'd run as fast as I could...great speed training!

Yayyy! Im training to do the 10k too! Im also only at 4km frown

My DH just say "aww, you can do a mom run". Id love to join a running group in Ottawa, but im 45 minutes south, so driving there and back after the run would suck.

So many people doing the 10k! I'm afraid of injuring myself so I'm taking it slow. I usually run weds-fri-sun and try to do strength/core the rest of the week.

Taking it slow is definitely a good idea for those of you who gave birth in the last few months! I didn't really start back until after Christmas, so about 3 months. And when I did run over the winter, it was quite sporadic. I've really only been serious about it again since March 3 (when my clinic began).

9k done in the wonderful sunshine! This included my 7 hills laugh

I was not a runner to start with, so doing 4k is great for me! Im assuming I'll likely not be ready for the 10 km and will walk/run.

Ok, just got back from a 5k run that included hills and it was good. Not great, but good. I'm having to put in all of my 4 runs between now and Friday since we're out of town this weekend.
For those of you doing the Ottawa Saturday race, what are you eating before/throughout the day? I've never raced in the evening...

This thread may be the motivation I need. I have been meaning to start the Cto5K to get back into running, as I pretty much stopped doing all physical activity once I got pregnant last April. I just don't have the motivation to start. I am going to follow along with you guys and you use this to motivate (guilt?) me into starting.

I'm hoping to start back to running regularly next week. I've been trying to but the last few weeks have been so busy as I'm in the middle of a move, so now I'm back to square one again. Before pregnancy, I ran a 1/2 and a couple of 5s and a 10. I would love to run another 10 in the near future smile

I tried to get out for a run tonight, but I think my body needs an extra rest day. So I turned around after the first couple of run sets and came home. frown Put me on the list of people who haven't done anything since getting pregnant so going back to every other day running was probably a bit too eager.

Rach - I'm going to do week one of C25k again next week. Want to do the program with me?

Wow! It's so nice to see so many people getting out to run. I loved running pre- pregnancy but got so sore around the 4 month mark I had to quit. I kept up with fitness classes but missed the freedom of the road.

I am still pretty sore at times so I am easing my way back into the gym. I still have 60 lbs I want to lose :s so I am not as spry as I was before.

I can't wait to join this thread. You are all doing great!

I'm going to start the couch to 5k again next week too smile What days are you girls going to run? I will most likely be doing Sun, Mon, Friday and then try to do the 30 day shred the other days.

Anyone want to PM/FB back and forth for motivation?

My schedule is Tues (hills), Thurs (track), Sat (tempo) and Sun (long run). I'm thinking about adding a short run on Mon as well.

I think I've decided to train for a marathon in November (it'll be my third)! My training has been going really well recently, and I've got Boston fever!!

You go Doodle!! I have Boston fever too, reading all the race reports, and at this point I have ZERO desire to even run a marathon! I might be convinced to try a half though...

I've decided to take another RR clinic. When I first began running, last January, I did the women's only clinic and it was great to keep me accountable. I will do the 5K clinic which runs on Fri nights and it will be great to get me into a schedule, plus give me a night when DH is responsible for bedtime, completely by himself (this makes me more nervous than the running).

I've been following a training schedule from Runners World. It's four days a week with the long run on Sunday. I'm adding a fifth day of cross-training. I only ran once this week though frown The weather is crap!! I put our spin bike to use instead and added some yoga. Thank god for DVDs!!
I'm aiming to do a half in Sept. Probably the army run. Seriously though, I'm starting to worry my running days are over. I'll do anything for motivation so if we start something on FB, I'm in.

I can't find the group Jess!

DH is responsible for bedtime too one night a week so I can run. DH takes Z from 5:45 to 7:30, and I swoop in at 7:30 to nurse and plunk Z in his crib. My track group is from 6-7:30. I was super nervous the first few weeks since 6-7:30 is Z's fussy time, but it's working out ok. Now that the weather's nice, they usually go for a walk and come home to do bedtime.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I've emailed my coach to let him know I'm thinking about it, so I'm somewhat committed now!

I did just over 3k but I was horrendously slow!!! I did 1:1s, as I didn't want to kill myself and get discouraged. It felt fantastic for the first 2/3 and just okay for the last 1/3. I'm super pumped that I got back out there and I'm motivated to continue, thanks to this fantastic weather! Hi ladies,

I'm excited to get back out there as well. I ran a 10k when DD was 4.5 months and ended up needing physio for knee pain, so I'm taking it more slowly this time around. I've only done a couple of runs so far (since stopping when I was 6 weeks pregnant). I've been doing cardio/core/strength training 30 mins 3 times a week for 5 weeks so far, but I'd like to add in 2 runs a week.
