Moms with Pregnancy Swelling, When did it go away?

When can I expect to have a little relief from the pregnancy swelling after birth?? I need something to look forward too because I am finding how much swelling and discomfort I have to be mentally trying and I don't want to start off after my baby is born on the wrong mental foot.

TIA bye

Mine also got worse PP, the first few days after DS was born were the worst. For me it started to go down between 2 and 3 weeks, and I finally had ankles back at about 4 weeks PP. I had forgotten what my ankles looked like not swollen!

I had no swelling to speak of during pregnancy but had about 5-7 days of obvious swelling PP before it all went away.

Mine got worse once we were out of the hospital, I think it's often worse after a csection though. It was totally healed by 9 days pp!

I would say a week or two. I remember the first few days nursing in my glider being he$$ because if i was sitting my feet would be burning and swollen.

Mine was always gone as soon as they were out. Having IV fluids during labor/birth will make you swell for a while afterward.

It was gone by the time we left the hospital (2 weeks PP). It got REALLY bad for the few days after he was born. Between IV's for being GBS+, then emergency c-section caused in part by a fever I had = a TON of extra liquids pumped into me.

I'm 11 or 12 days PP and when I thought it couldn't get worse it did but we have 30 degree heat right now. My GP said to give it to the 3 week mark so I continue to wait with rolls around my ankles...

I was so swollen leading up to DS's birth. I gained 15lbs of water weight in the last two weeks and then ended up with a emergency c-section after 39 hours of labour, so I was full of extra liquid. It took about 2 weeks for it to all go away (except for my tummy because of the surgery). I was so worried I would never see my ankles again but it all went away!!

I swelled up after giving birth - much worse than during pregnancy - it went away quickly though, within 3-4 days. I was really surprised, I didn't have any IV fluids so I wasn't expecting it.

My pregnancy swelling started around 26 weeks and was quite bad by the end. I had to stay off my feet as much as possible since it would hurt to walk if I didn't.

Like others, my swelling also got worse after DS was born. I am sure part of that is because I had an emergency c-section and was pumped full of fluids for a couple of days. Even though my swelling was worse after, it didn't really bother me since I wasn't doing much walking at first. The swelling started to get better about a week later and I'd say I was back to normal a few days after that. I remember being so amazed at how 'skinny' my feet/ankles/calves looked once the swelling went away!

It took maybe 2 weeks with DD, and almost a month with DS to fully go away.

I had pretty bad Shrek feet with ODS, he was a Spring baby and it was hot that year. It took about 24-48 for the swelling to go down. I found the IV fluids made it worse.

With YDS I had minimal swelling and once he was out, it was gone.

I had massive Hobbit feet and could barely fit into even flip flops right at the end. It did get worse right after he was born because of the fever, surgery and all the fluids they pumped into me. It was about 2 weeks before I got my old feet and ankles back. I still can't really fit my rings on, etc. but I am pretty sure that is weight related and not swelling at all. frown

Ms_Roc, so exciting that you are almost there! smile

Try epsom salt baths. I had horrible swelling with my last pregnancy to the point I could feel the water sloshing around my ankles crazy I started putting epsom salts in with my bath water and within about 48 hours I was peeing like crazy getting rid of all the extra fluid.

It was recommended to me by this little old GP that staffs the hospital ER sometimes. He has some weird ideas but they all have worked for me.

I'm another one who experienced worse swelling after delivery than PP. Although I was pretty swollen at the end, I had IV fluids at the hospital (due to pitocin, epidural, and antibiotics) and I actually weighed more leaving the hospital AFTER DS was born than I did when going in...minus the baby and everything!

It took about a week or two for the swelling to go away.

My whole body was really swollen from early on, and I'd say it took a few weeka to go down. I still can't fit my rings on my fingers and feet still don't fit my shoes properly (no swollen anymore though) since they are a different shape now - wider maybe! So frustrating!

I do remember thinking that my feet possibly couldn't get anymore swollen and they was just not enough elasticity for them to stretch and they hurt like hell. One of the reasons I went on sick leave early! I was so excited to have my chicken legs back haha!

Good luck to you and hope the swelling goes down quickly! As you can see from the posts everyone has varying time lines.

The swelling in my legs and feet went away almost immediately after giving birth (man it was nice to see my ankles again, lol). The swelling in my hands went down some, but it took a couple weeks before I could wear my rings again.

Well, I had pre-eclampsia and put on 30 lbs. of water, so I'm sure that's a little different wink

But, it took 8 weeks for the water retention and swelling to all drain out. My son was almost 2 months old by the time I could wear shoes again. It was BAAAAD.

I can't believe your 39 weeks! wink Do lots of ankle exercises prior to and afterwards. Also raise your legs/feet whenever you have a chance. It took a good month for the swelling to leave for me, not to mention I couldn't feel my middle toe.
