 Potentially silly question... re: poppies...

I figure this'll probably get the best response level from "folks in the know"...

I know last year there was a thread in which it was discussed who should appropriately be wearing small Canadian Flag pins in the middle of the poppy... consensus seemed to be that it should be reserved for CF members (past & present) and their families.

I don't want to step on any toes, so I'm asking this question:

I inevitably stab myself with straight pins (even if I try blocking the end... I've got skills *eyeroll*)... I'd really like to replace the straight pin on this year's poppy with a lapel pin to hold it in place. Over the summer when DH and I were on-base to play paintball, we went to the CANEX and picked up 2 small yellow-ribbon lapel pins (money going to a CF charity for CF families in need, I think... but I can't remember what it was called). Would it be acceptable to use those to secure our poppies, or would it be likely to cause offence?

MY FH is in the military and while I know the "etiquette" of the poppy, I disregard part of it, as always pin mine with a Canadian flag.

I think if you're wearing it over your heart and you haven't "defaced" (and I do not consider use of another pin defacing... I mean, seriously?) it or destroyed it, it shouldn't matter.

But that's just me smile

I must have missed last year's discussion, but we are not allowed to wear the poppy with the Canadian flag pins while in uniform (only allowed to wear the straight pin) and it's seriously frowned upon for us to wear them with anything other than the straight pin while in civilians too.

But as for civilians, y'all can wear it however you want, so far as I'm concerned. As long as it's being worn with pride and respect, how it's affixed to your clothing doesn't matter to me.

Just my (and my Dh's) opinion.

FF - I think you read the post I made in T&P about poppies but as the wife of a military member and on his behalf we don't care how you wear it, just wear it with pride and support. I have worn it with a yellow ribbon pin in the past.

try a safety pin. Thats what I did for my friends 10 month old. I wasn't going to stick a regular pin on him.
