 Hand sanitizer?

Do you use it on your LOs? I was at te park with dd and she was playing in the sand and I thought "it would be nice to be able to wash her hands!"

I don't (though I can understand the convenience of it). The very high alcohol content (62% wow) freaks me out, and I don't really want to be carrying it in my diaper bag where someone might get into it when I turn my back for a second. I remember hearing reports a few years ago of toddlers being poisoned after ingesting some of it.

I just carry baby wipes on me all the time and use those to wipe dirty hands/faces in a pinch!

I use it on DS.

I pretty much only use it when we are out and getting back into the car. DS always has to have some sort of snack when he is in the car, and it's pretty much the only way to wash his hands in this situation.

I brought it up with my pediatrician, and she said that it was perfectly fine, but just to make sure that I rub it in properly & dry off any extra gel leftover on his hands.

I don't very often. I carry Norwex wipes for before they eat a snack out in public. Otherwise I find a washroom to wash their hands. The city of Ottawa makes the kids at Dufferdoo sanitize their hands with a bit of sanitizer before snack time (trucking 20 kids to the washroom is a thing of the 80's I guess). At first I was a little miffed, but they put very little and teach them to rub until it's all gone. Now every time I sanitize my hands, Flix wants to as well so I've been letting him. He doesn't put his hands in his mouth anymore so it doesn't worry me.

I just keep some hand/face wipes in the car rather than use hand sanitizer.

I don't for a couple of reasons:

- It really dries out their skin.

- I find the smell overpowering and it is full of chemicals, like triclosan, an endocrine disruptor.

- The hygiene hypothesis - a little dirt is not going to hurt and it helps build kids immune systems. Kids who are exposed to normal dirt and bacteria have been shown in studies to have fewer allergies and less frequency of asthma.

I usually keep a damp cloth in a ziploc bag.

I don't use anything antibacterial so there is no way that I would use hand sanitizer on ds or myself. Another fan of the use a baby wipe for clean them up while out.

Nope.

I use diaper wipes to wipe him down as much as possible if a sink/soap isn't available.

A squirt of sanitizer is part of his gymnastic class routine for some reason so that's the only time he's exposed to it. Because it is only once/week I let it go, but I wouldn't like it if, for example, his daycare was doing it before each meal.

We've had parents at school request it before the children eat snack and it baffles me. Wouldn't you rather your child use soap and water instead of all those chemicals?
