When to they take a cup?

I know DD is way to young to want to take a cup, but I'm just curious when do they usually learn to do so? There was a post in New Mom's about a baby that finally learned to take a bottle at a year, and my first thought was "Shouldn't they be going to a cup by then?" and I realised that I really have no clue when kids go to a cup from a bottle!

DD never really took a bottle, so we offered a sippy cup from a really young age, I want to say 8 months or so? She didn't figure out how to suck on in properly for a little while, but she got the hang of it. She also was drinking out of a regular cup pretty early on. It doesn't hurt to give your baby a cup with some water to practice.

Both my DD and my DS never took a bottle. I started offering a sippy cup of water at six months (when they started solids), and by seven months with each they were drinking from it like a pro. It took longer to get my DS to accept taking formula/breast milk from the sippy but I'd say by 10 months I was able to leave him with someone for a few hours with some snacks and a sippy of formula.

At what point did they learn to take a regular cup? (With minimal spillage that is)

My DD has been able to drink (without help) from a normal cup since she was around 2 I think.. she could drink from it before that but not without me hovering around her and she would usually end up dumping half of it. tongueold. But we didn't really give it to her on a regular basis until more recently (she's 3... and her manual dexterity still isn't amazing :P). I still give her a sippy cup in our playroom and out and about etc. I only give her a real cup to drink from at mealtimes when I can trust her to not be carrying it around with her!
