Well the past two mornings he slept "in" till 6am!!! Woohoo!! What I started doing was putting him down WIDE awake (I was getting lazy and he'd often fall asleep or almost asleep at the boob, and I'd just put him down asleep, so he'd wake up from naps early). If I did this before bedtime at night, he'd wake up through the night and wake up earlier in the a.m. (5am). Because of his shorter naps he was overtired and all I've heard/read is that overtired babies wake up earlier and sleep poorly. Definitely true here. so there's been some more crying since he's not so sure he likes this going to bed wide awake business, but he's doing really well with it now and if I keep at it, I think I can at least get him to sleep from 7pm-6am (with two dreamfeeds).

I'd go with the SecureKid. We have a Graco Nautilus and a Evenflo Maestro (which is the same frame as the SecureKid, only it goes to 47lbs harnessed instead of 65) and I MUCH prefer the Maestro. The Frontier is the best of them all, will keep any kid harnessed the longest (has the highest top harness slots by 2"!!), but at 300$ (and never going on sale) they're very expensive. If you want to dish out that cash, go for it! Otherwise, I'd go with the SecureKid!

My DS gets up between 5 and 5:30 these days and it's killing us!! I know this is a common problem with babies this age (my DD used to do the same thing). So last night I got busy with the tape and successfully blocked out every speck of light from coming into his room, with hopes that it was the sun rising so early that was waking him. No avail. He woke up at 5:25 this morning too.
Need some ideas. What's worked for you?

With Maddy I waited till she was about 9 weeks old before allowing her to sleep on her tummy and she slept a lot better that way. With Evan, he was tummy sleeping on day 2 and every sleep therein. I tried swaddling and back sleeping but didn't wait long before throwing in the towel since he would wake up the second he was placed on his back and the only way he'd want to sleep was on his tummy on me. On his tummy anywhere proved to work, so there we had it. I wasn't going to have another baby who didn't sleep. Trust your instincts.

Thanks for posting! I need to start Evan on a bottle soon too since I'll be starting back at work in Sept. I'm going to wait till I can start right onto homo milk though, since I don't want to give formula and he won't drink frozen/thawed BM (he used to drink fresh... but I haven't had any fresh pumped stuff in so long that I'm not sure if he would take that from a bottle either now). I am REALLY hoping he will take the homo as well as his sister did!! We'll probably start trying in a month!
What kind of bottles you using? I'm going to try the Playtex drop ins I think since Maddy did so well with those.

DD asked how you get a baby in your belly and I did not go into the birds and the bees.... that would have been TMI for her at only 3. But I have a feeling she'll be asking more probing questions soon, since she's starting to ask inquisitive questions about everything nowadays (today: "How was this car made?", "How are stuffies (stuffed toys) made?").

DD gets sick 12-24 hours after visiting there EVERY time without fail. You could also do a shopping day at Eaton Centre and go for lunch at Mr. Greenjeans or somewhere cool (not sure how much shopping is in your neck of the woods).

First day of kindergarden, a boy threw a GIGANTIC tantrum. His mother and the K teacher were hurt. A bookshelf fell over. All the kids were kinda traumatized! But he was 5. Good lord you don't handcuff a kid and suspend him for such a thing. Way to set him up for a lifetime of bad behaviour!
No age discrimination eh? DD threw some pretty awesome tantrums as a newborn. Guess I should have called the cops so they could come handcuff her and suspend her from the house for a while till she calmed down. Stupid.

Sleep Easy with both kids. DD at 14 months (though I should have done it around 6 months, I was just too scared). DS we just started last week. DD was a crier and, being the first baby, was always attended to immediately any time she made a peep. So it was a little harder for her. She was also a toddler when we started and I think it's harder the older they get.
DS has always been a much calmer baby and, while we always attend to his needs, being the second born sometimes he had to lay in his crib a little longer before we were able to come and get him, so when I started putting him down awake it wasn't that hard for him to get it. He never cried longer than 5 mins. Except for one night in the middle of the night, where he gave me a good half hour of crying. That sucked. But he went from having horrible naps and waking all throughout the night to having two solid 1.5-2 hours naps everyday and only feeding twice throughout the night.
I personally wasn't ready to do it till now. I wanted to start at 6.5 months, after his belly got a chance to get used to solids but he was horribly teething at that point, so we waited till 7 months and it was perfect timing for us

I couldn't do it on a baby younger than 6 months but that's just me.

We use whatever thermometer we can find (a BBT or one that I've bought over the years for the kids). They all seem to be accurate just using under the arm. Never taken an anal temp, I don't see the need since I can get a good read under the arm and I don't need it to be THAT accurate, just want to know if there's a fever or not. To be honest I have a pretty good sense of things just by touching my lips to their forehead. I know what "time to medicate" hot is and "still okay" hot is just by that. I can usually guess the number, lol.
We also have an ear thermometer that's SOOO unreliable!! A normal temp will read 34 and a HIGH fever will read just over 37! So bad.... And of course we paid like 50$ for the thing.

I used to be very much a AP fan. I thought it was the best way for me to parent my kids. Well then I had my baby girl turn into a TERRIBLE sleeper of a toddler and then I had my son, and both of these experiences have shown me that there's no one right way to parent a child.
I don't agree with following a set of rules when it comes to parenting. For example, I don't do BLW because I don't like how if you're a real follower you're not supposed to ever help your child eat at all. That's a rule and I don't like it. And with AP, I don't like how there are all these rules that if you don't follow you're slipping away from being in the AP circle. So I do what works for us. Much of it falls into the AP spectrum but some doesn't. I let my DD CIO and I"m *this close* to letting DS as well (even though I hate it, we all need to sleep!). DS has been a crib sleeper from like day 2 because he has never settled well sleeping close to us. Also with our DD still coming into our bed most nights, there'd be no room for him! I love BFing and I feel very fortunate to be able to do it for so long (DD for 17 months and I'm hoping DS till he's 2). I had a natural birth with DS and it was amazing but I fully realize this isn't for everyone!! So yeah, do what works for your family not what ANY single book/theory says (unless of course, that's what works for you! lol).

Anyone have any experience with a child having sleep apnea? I think DD might have it
Normally we sleep with her part of the night because she wakes up and it's just easier than getting her back to sleep on her own (we used to be better but now with the baby we're too sleep deprived to care, lol). Anyway I am usually dead to the world when I am sleeping with her but DH said to me today that she should see a sleep specialist or something. He said that she takes long pauses between some breaths and then has a really big breath/snore in and often wakes herself up. As you can imagine she always has disrupted sleep which I have noticed, but just have always chalked it up to her being a bad sleeper. Now I'm wondering if this is partly why.
She also snores a lot, which I'm not sure is so normal for a 3 year old!
So from the bit of reading online I've done it sounds like it could be sleep apnea. I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow and get her seen this week hopefully and see what she says.

We bought our City Select in the US and had it shipped to Buffalo, and picked it up there. We did not claim it, we got rid of all the boxes before going back across the border and never got searched. I honestly never checked into whether it was allowed or not (I know not claiming it's isn't allowed but I'm ok with doing that, haha!). It's not something like car seats where it's actually illegal to use the car seat if it's American, so I just don't really care that much.

I had a hospital birth with DD and wasn't very impressed. I went with MWs for my son and did a lot of reading on natural births and home births. I still wasn't convinced. Then we went to the home birth info session that my MWs put on and it was awesome. Even convinced my DH (who was TOTALLY against one initially) that it was a good idea. We got to see everything they brought to a birth. Also in my appts I'd really rack their brains and realized that it really was a SAFE thing to try. They assured me that at the sign of ANY problem at all (red flags) they'd be the first to say it's hospital time. So I put my trust in them.
I had never really 100% decided on a home birth till the day I went into labour though. I thought I'd just do what felt right at the time, and staying at home felt right. Thankfully I didn't have any complications at all and everything went perfectly. I discovered I'm NOT a quiet labourer once transition hits. And I KNOW I would not have felt comfortable at all screaming as loud as I was at a hospital. I was somewhat embarrassed between contractions at home with just my MWs, DH and doula there. If I knew there were others hearing me I'm pretty sure I would have asked for pain relief just to be modest!
The hardest part of the whole thing for me was the "what if" scenario. What if something goes wrong and I'm at home... everyone will blame me, they'll say that it happened because I was being selfish in having a home birth. But I knew that that was fear talking, not logic. And I decided to not let fear rule my decision. I'm so glad I had a home birth, it was one of, if not THE, most defining moments of my life.

Be careful not to over use cabbage leaves. I know you have a ton of milk right now but it won't always be that way, and it's possible you could dry up too much milk. Here's some info from kellymom.com
http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/engorgement.html#cabbageApplying cabbage leaf compresses to the breast can be helpful for moderate to severe engorgement. There is little research on this treatment thus far, but there is some evidence that cabbage may work more quickly than ice packs or other treatments, and moms tend to prefer cabbage to ice packs.
What are cabbage compresses used for?
Engorgement.
Extreme cases of oversupply, when the usual measures for decreasing supply (adjusting nursing pattern, nursing "uphill," etc.) are not working
During weaning, to reduce mom's discomfort and decrease milk supply.
Sprains or broken bones, to reduce swelling.
To use cabbage leaves:
Green cabbage leaves may be used chilled or at room temperature.
Wash cabbage leaves and apply to breasts between feedings.
For engorgement or oversupply:Limit use as cabbage can decrease milk supply. Leave on for 20 minutes, no more than 3 times per day; discontinue use after engorgement/oversupply subsides.
During the weaning process: Leave the leaves on the breast until they wilt, then apply new leaves as often as needed for comfort.

Feed feed feed!!!! Keep baby at the breast as often as possible. It should only last 2-3 days but yeah, it hurts. Warm showers help a bit. With DD I had terrible brutal engorgement because she wouldn't latch, so I pumped my heart out. With DS I didn't have engorgement at all because he latched well right away and was basically always at the breast, so no chance for the milk to just sit there. He's a little piggy!

If I were you I wouldn't go backwards and cut a meal since you've already fallen into a routine with the 3 meals a day. I did it that way with DD too. Basically when I was eating a meal, she would be too! With DS however I'm reluctant to start lunch since we're always out around midday and it's just another logistical thing to consider if I do start lunch, lol. Although he really would love it if I did. I basically had to start him on solids at 5 months because he was lunging for our food and I felt it would have been mean for me to wait till 6 months just because the books say so. He's an eating MACHINE!!

Maddy had a bottle till she turned 2 and we always used Playtex Drop Ins. We used the silicone nipples, but we started a bottle at 10 months old so we didn't have to worry about latching issues. She latched onto the bottle the same way she used to breastfeed, with her lips around the base of the nipple and her lips flared. I loved drop ins. We had a Ventaire bottle (also Playtex, same nipple) at my mom's house but I hated having to clean all the parts!

My DD is really good with DS for the most part, but she tries to pick fights with him already, lol. She'll say things like "No Evan! Yes, eczema, not excema, lol. Thanks ladies! I thought that's probably all it was too.
Now part 2. I have been introducing new foods and 2 days ago I gave him yogurt, and again yesterday and today. Could it be the cause of this or is that unlikely? I'm worried about him having a dairy intollerance... I REALLY hope he doesn't cause we love milk/cheese/yogurt here but when I was EBF he had green mucousy poops much of the time (and I find it hard to believe it was a foremilk issue since he drained each breast fully for each feed).

A couple days ago I noticed this on DS's right upper arm. There's only the one spot. I was thinking either excema or ringworm, but with ringworm I find they usually get multiple lesions, and it can be cleared up easily with Canesten. I put Canesten on this for two days and it has not helped. We have his 6 month check up on Wed so I'll obviously ask about it there. I have cortisone cream but I'm hesitant to start using it on him since he's so young and I'm not 100% sure it is excema.

If you have a good digital scale then you should get a pretty accurate reading by weighing yourself holding baby and then not holding baby (and subtracting the weight). We have a very good digi scale and it's always been the same as the weight at the doctors office.
You can buy baby scales from Shoppers Home Healthcare (or whatever it's called) I think. But unless there's a reason to always weigh baby then it's not necessary.

She's still really young, I wouldn't expect her to be able to actually feed herself yet. It's more just for play at her age if you're doing BLW, but since it's making her mad, I'd either start doing some purees or hold off the food for a bit.
BLW doesn't work for ME. I'm sure the kids would have done fine with it but I enjoy making purees and feeding them to the kids. Evan LOVES eating and also gets frustrated trying to self feed. Also, when his belly is a little full of something OTHER than breastmilk, it gives me a bit of a break

Since DS has absolutely no interest in facing out, I was thinking of trying a Beco this time, but I can't find a place that carries them in Toronto. I have Evan at home and Maddy in daycare Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's awesome. I think 3 days a week might be even better, but I feel bad saying that, lol. I would highly recomend it. It's made having a new baby so much easier. I dont' think I'm cut out for having two at home (one being a baby) 24/7. Kudos to those who can handle it!! Granted if Maddy weren't such a, um, energetic kid, it might be better. She literally demands attention from the second she's awake till the second she's in bed, and actually doesn't sleep through the night so it doesn't end once she's in bed either.

What car do you drive, JustC? That will make a difference to what seat you get.
I know many people have but I would not go with a 3-1. I'd get a combonation RF/FF seat (but without the booster option). Can't go wrong with Britax (Marathon, Boulevard). I think they have better RFing limits now than they used to. I love our Safety 1st Air Protect Complete, I just bought a new one but if you just have a car, then it's probably not the seat for you since it takes up a lot of room RFing.
