It's super handy and I loved using it, but honestly, I only used it for a couple of weeks. The amount of time my LO ate purees was not very long. The little cups and the freezing tray were cool. I received one as a gift, which was awesome. But I don't think I would have ever purchased one for myself. Not enough long-term value for me personally.

For us a huge one is which direction the yard faces. Currently our back deck faces east, so we only have sun in the morning on the deck. This is a huge drawback for us, as we love to spend evenings outside, but it usually is too cold with no sun back there. So this is a huge item on our next wishlist.

We have a Honda Fit, and none of the carseats we tried would fit. They just came out with a Safety First Guide 65 model, which is made for small cars, and it fits great. Now that DS is over 22 lbs and we can decrease the recline a bit, I have the right amount of space. It's not the most expensive carseat in the world, but since we had a pretty tight budget it worked perfectly for us. And I actually like the carseat. I don't have experience with other convertibles though, so I can't compare.

I lived in Thailand for a few years, and I have a few dishes I always ate:
Pad Thai (stir fried noodles)
Massaman Curry (a yellow curry with meat and usually potatoes...sooooo good)
Panang Curry (a spicier curry)
Chicken Cashew
Tom Kha (coconut soup)
and of course, mango with sticky rice...mmmmm.
Making Thai curries is very easy. You just buy the curry paste and then fry the paste a little in some oil until you can start to smell it and then you add coconut milk. You can do it with whatever meat you like.
There are a couple of really good pre-mixed pouches of paste you can buy from an Asian grocery like T&T Supermarket. They have directions on the back, and they are very authentic. Super cheap and soooo easy. We have tried the Panang and the Tom Kha pastes and they are awesome. They are imported from Thailand...I found a photo online! They look like this:

You can also find the basic curry pastes (red, green and yellow) in almost any grocery store.
I would definitely recommend going to a Thai restaurant to try the Pad Thai though...there are a ton of recipes out there with varying degrees of yumminess, so making it at home can be hit or miss.
The food in Thailand is amazing. Enjoy! I am so incredibly jealous.

I almost didn't respond, as I have nothing encouraging to say...DS started refusing adamantly, and has never gone back. We are really struggling right now (at 8 months) trying to introduce a bottle or a sippy with him, and failing epicly. He just screams bloody murder anytime we try.

Thanks for posting that link. It was very useful for me!
I have a question for the informed people...I have tried finding the answer to this, but can't. What are the views of the Alberta Party on social issues (i.e. abortion, gay rights, immigration, etc)? I know they are not really part of the platform, but I would like to know where a party stands on these issues, and I can't seem to find out about the AB Party.
And my thoughts on the election in general: I find it frustrating that it is always a choice between voting with your true beliefs and voting strategically in Alberta. I hate voting for a party that I don't agree with, but it seems like it's usually a choice of voting for one to keep the other out. It sucks.

No, I didn't experience what you are describing, however I did have a weird nerve thing that went through my right leg. Any time I brushed my outside right ankle or scratched it, I would get a radiating buzz up and down my right leg. Very strange. So it could possibly be nerve related. My leg things is gone now (about 8 months PP). I was never sure if that was due to the pregnancy and the extra fluid and swelling, or because of the epidural from my c-section.
I would definitely ask your doctor about it. It sounds a little strange, and I would want to have peace of mind about it, you know?

I did! I started a thread about it back when I was planning...here's the link:
http://forums.weddingbells.ca/ubbthreads...657#Post1616657We had invited about 100 people, but only about 85 attended. We set it up as a buffet style as we had Thai food for our reception. The space was verrrryyyy tight. However, we were sharing the Barn that day with another bride who was having her ceremony there, but not the reception, so we weren't able to have the space set up the night before. This would have alleviated a lot of the space issues I think. As it was, we had some family members and friends head over and set it up after our ceremony, but since we were doing photos we weren't there for direction, which was not the most efficient.
I don't really have too many images from my reception showing off the barn. We hung paper lanterns from the rafters and that was about if for decorating the space.
The thing that sold us on using the Barn was a) the cost and b) the freedom to have our own caterer, and the lack of restrictions in general.
If you have any specific questions, I can try my best to answer.

My friend did a course in Costa Rica (I think...I can't remember where exactly). She did feel that it wasn't enough to go out and teach classes instantly, however she still felt it was an incredibly valuable experience, and she has taught some classes as a volunteer to build up more experience. Sure, 200 hours won't make you an instant pro, but isn't that what yoga is about? Shouldn't you be constantly learning and growing and challenging yourself? I think it's a great place to start, and that the experience will be invaluable. As long as you have reasonable expectations upon your return career-wise (i.e. you won't be opening your own studio and earning millions of $$ right away), I can't see any negatives. In fact, I think it would be awesome. I can attest to the life-changing nature of travel. I left my job and went on an adventure and it changed my life (sounds cheesy, but it's true).
Safe travels! Keep us updated. Also, I am totally jealous.

Oh man, I hear ya. DS won't take a bottle either. Well, he has taken it from my parents on the 2 occasions we went out, but he screamed down the house for about an hour before he took it. Sigh.
How are you holding up? Get Jealous when you hear friends going out, going out on dates, or having cocktails?I still have cocktails. I do get jealous of people going out, though. Or at least of people having a full night sleep while their DH feeds the babe.
Have you been able to get out without your baby?Yeah, we've gone out a couple times (maybe 3?) but usually I will only go out for a couple hours so I can be back before he needs to eat again.
Are you going to try the sippy soon? We've tried the sippy but he won't suck. Sigh. He loves to hold it and to bite it, but he won't suck at all. I have tried just a regular cup, but he doesn't get enough from it, as he's pretty young.
Has your baby bitten you yet?Yes. He has almost 5 teeth fully through (3 are all the way through) and the first week or so, he bit a lot. But now he doesn't. I just pull him off when he gets lazy. He only bites when he's finished.
Hugs to you! I know it's frustrating. I know you've probably tried everything, but will he take a bottle from someone else? DS will NOT take it from me, but will eventually take it from my parents. It's a struggle, but it was worth it for those couple of times so we could have a break. Also, just remember: You are an awesome mommy, and you're doing an amazing job! I find when I am losing my sanity that it helps to remember that.

Our DS also has a tongue tie. The Lactation Consultant in the hospital said he seemed to latch well, so it was our choice whether or not to clip it. We decided to wait, and my doctor said he wouldn't bother, as BFing was going fine. We've been BFing for almost 7 months with no issues.

ETA: the PHN made me second-guess our decision not to clip it. She was adamant that we should see a specialist and get it clipped ASAP. I really started getting worried about it, but after seeing my doctor, I felt way better, and I'm glad we didn't go with her advice.

On another note, a friend of mine walked into Staples and asked a staff member for help, and they referred him to the computer in the store. One of the parenting books I read had a quote about reaching milestones that I always try and keep in mind (although it's hard at times!): "Have you ever seen an adult who couldn't roll over?". I am sure he is just doing things on his own time.

I definitely think companies have the right to advertise wherever they would like, and that includes pulling advertising as they see fit. However, to me the issue is that they were influenced by a hate group, and caved to their request, and they handled the whole situation incredibly badly. To my knowledge no one had addressed the issue sufficiently from Lowes. It is mind boggling to me that their PR department didn't foresee this issue and have a strategy for it...I don't think it would have been difficult to even just issue a statement saying they were not influenced by the group and decided to spend their advertising dollars as they saw fit. Instead, they seem content to let their company be associated with this hate group. It's very strange, really.

Tojules, I agree that the clip was not the most unbiased clip, and I had a couple of issues with it as well. However, the story itself is rather shocking to me. My twitter feed has been abuzz with this since last night. I think they made a huge error in pulling out (tee hee MrsMcW!!).
Caving to a small lobby group is a huge mistake in this instance. It just makes them look like they support the same values, which would be anti-Muslim sentiments. That is frightening. I think that MOST people (I certainly would hope!) disagree with them pulling the advertising, and it would certainly affect my decision to shop there. That being said, I don't shop there anyway, so it makes no difference to them in this instance.
However, the amount of press that this is likely to get is definitely going to be damaging. As of last night they had some lame response to the story. Any word on if they have beefed up their PR response to something that isn't pathetic?

I am not offended by the sentiment in the original post about disagreeing with "Happy Holidays". That is not racist at all (nor do I feel it's prejudiced, etc). As PPs here have said, it is getting quite ridiculous, with the Illuminated Tree being a prime example.
The thing that offends me, and I think quite a few others is the part about "if you don't like it you have 24 days to leave our country". That is incredibly racist/prejudiced/whatever term you think is best.
So, when the poll results show 84 people agree with this statement, they are essentially agreeing that they think that telling people to go back to their own countries if they don't agree with Christmas is "on the ball". And THAT'S what flabbergasts me.
The poll is not trying to see if people think that the political-correctness of the holiday season has become ridiculous. The poll is asking if that particular statement is racist or not. Even if I disagreed that "racist" was the correct term, I would still never in a million years think that the statement was "right on the ball".

This discussion always baffles me every year. Every year there are people all up in arms about the "war on Christmas" and how newspapers are "brave" for saying Merry Christmas, etc. I have never ever in real life (i.e. not in the media) met a person who expressed offence about being greeted with "Merry Christmas", or having it called a Christmas tree. And I worked at an immigrant serving agency with people from many different backgrounds, countries and religions. I am sure they exist out there, but I have never met one. Nor do I get offended when people include me in their celebrations. I think it's nice actually.
The original statement is incredibly offensive to me, and it is amazing and sad that people would see it as being totally justified. Assuming that people who are upset about Christmas are immigrants and "should go back to their own country" is such a horrible statement. I hate reading things like this and knowing that it exists in our world. I couldn't think of a less Christmas-y statement than that.
If we are to get upset about the real war on Christmas it should be for the commercialization and politicization of the holiday, not getting upset about people wanting to include their own holiday celebrations.
Just my 2 cents.

In regards to Diva's video, at first I thought it brought up some interesting points (the first 2 or 3 if I recall correctly) and then it just sort of lost me. It sort of just landslided (probably not a word...) into "You can't. You make stuff up. Christians are deluded". I sort of felt like I was in philosophy class. It's sort of circular reasoning, you know? I definitely have a lot of the same questions that are proposed in the video, I just don't think he did a great job of poking holes in the arguments. But, it was an interesting watch. Also, the first point about God healing amputees was a great one. Very interesting.
MillyHa, I have definitely met atheists who "preach" atheism as well. I think trying to convert people to giving up their faith is just as bad as trying to convert people to believe. However, I think asking people to question their beliefs is important, and that people shouldn't just accept their beliefs without really examining them (whatever those beliefs are, including atheism). People definitely do cross that line sometimes, on both sides I guess. It's probably just people are quicker to jump on the religious people perhaps.

Haha, Brecksgirl, I was just going to say lets start a church!!
Actually, DH and I were married by a pastor from the Unitarian Universalist Church here in town. They are very passionate about social justice. We even went to an info session, but it's very far from our house, so we have never gone to a service. They seem to be the religion most closely affiliated with our personal beliefs (at least according to that Belief-o-Matic quiz...haha).
Siiera, thanks for answering my question. That's basically how I feel as well. I have a problem supporting a church that does not fall in line with my views. I would love to just take the parts that I identify with and leave others in hopes that things might change, but in good conscience I just can't. Some of those issues are deal breakers for me. So I guess I'll just continue being adrift in a sea of religion and just say I'm "spiritual".
Off to watch Religulous...

This has been a really interesting thread. It's brought up a couple of questions for me. Lately I have been thinking a lot about religion, and where it fits in my life. I suppose I would be a 3 on Dawkins' scale, as previously posted. I was brought up Catholic, and staunchly believed and practiced until I hit my teen years, when I started questioning my beliefs and exploring other religions. DH is the same. Since having a babe, we have started thinking about what we will do when he gets older in regards to religion, which is making us examine our beliefs. To put it simply, we are sort of envious of people of faith. They seem to have such a great community, and such happiness and surety in their lives (of course, that is a simplification and generalization...I realize people who are non-religious also have this, and not all people of faith are happy, etc. but it's hard to put this into words).
Basically, I have a question:
If there is something that you don't agree with in your religion, how do you deal with it? For example, my beliefs would necessitate a religion that does not believe that being gay, or living a gay lifestyle is wrong and is not anti-choice (I am not using this term to be inflammatory, it's exactly what it means. It's ok if it states that abortion is wrong, but it needs to support a woman's right to choose), among other things. If you disagree with an "official" stance, how do you reconcile that?
I am asking out of genuine curiosity, not to start an argument. I am really searching for some answers. If it's not something you want to put out there, could you send me a PM?? I guess I am wondering if people who have a religious affiliation believe 100% of what that religion teaches. And if you don't, how do you reconcile that with your beliefs...
