Though I never really found a place here while planning my wedding, planning, conceiving, delivering and raising my little mess-machine here has added so much to my life. I've 'met' and met some of the most wonderful people I know, who I speak to more often than my IRL friends and who know about me than they do in recent years.
The end of an era has come. Thanks to all! Bring on Buzzle!

I had a spot. That's it. I had an evap line on an IC the same morning, which I guess turned out not to be an evap line! But that was it, just the spot.

Just wanted to pop in and wave 'Hi' to everyone! Z is still behind on fine/gross motor and language, but we're working on it. It's hard, I don't feel like there's enough time in the day to devote to him, and we can't figure out a schedule that works, despite the fact that he's now over 10mo, lol. Naps are non-existent at home, which makes it even harder - he wants to nurse to sleep, and then gets ticked when I remove him/transfer him to his crib or anywhere else not on me.
-

Naps are a poop-show, he screams for an hour. He finally fell asleep on his own yesterday after crying for 20 mins, and only slept for 15 mins, but at least he fell asleep in his own!

He used to sleep in his crib no problem - this trip ruined that apparently! At least I can get him back into it to play while I get dressed in the morning, 2 weeks ago I couldn't even do that!

Before we went on vacation, I'd be able to nurse DS downstairs, and transfer to his crib upstairs. Sometimes he'd wake up, sometimes not. He's never been very good at self-soothing, even worse these days.
He caught a case of gastro while we were away, and had some difficulties when we got home the week of January 21st. Separation anxiety, teething, WW, etc. - he wouldn't let me out of his sight for days.
That part has gotten better, but now he hates his crib with a passion. We can get him to sleep, but as soon as we lay him in his crib (sometimes before!), he's awake and screaming his head off.
Naps - I'm trying to break the nursing to sleep habit to prep him for daycare, but he won't sleep for longer than a few minutes without me actually lying beside him. I'm losing my mind - I can't get anything done, he's not napping well either. I'll nurse him, transfer him, and he's screaming before I'm even out of the room. I try shushing him, letting him CIO for a bit, but he just gets angrier and angrier and I end up lying down with him just to get him to sleep, which lasts for 5 minutes maximum once I leave the bed.
We intro'd a bottle of pumped BM at bedtime this past weekend - his night time sleep is MUCH better. The past few weeks he's been up 2-3 times a night, and won't go to sleep in his crib. I'd fall asleep with him beside me, wake up an hour later and put him into his crib again. Since intro'ing the bottle, he's sleeping for at least 6 hours straight again.
So - how do we fix the naps!?! Intro another bottle only to have him freak when I transfer to the crib? He won't take a sippy and I need him to have some independence from me. He was on the 2-3-4 schedule before we left, and seems to still be on it - I'm definitely not missing his sleepy cues, I know that!

I can hardly believe it - he's 37 weeks old now.
If many of you recall, we had a very stressful last few weeks of our pregnancy when I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension. My midwife transferred me to the care of an OB, and I was put on bed rest. On top of that, Zach had stopped moving around 35 weeks, but my OB kept me pregnant anyways. In our 36th week of pregnancy, he had poor NSTs, but again, my OB released me, though my nurses wanted me to stay.
My OB did an u/s in his office at 36w6, and assured me Zach was moving well, all looked good and it looked like we beat the odds - I was scheduled for an induction at 38w, April 19th. I went home, and made a plan of action for the rest of the week - I was off bed rest, and could 'live' again for a few days!
I went in for my routine NST at 37w the next day at 1pm, with the thought in my head that Zach had barely moved that day, only little flickers. I told the nurse, and true to my gut feeling, Zach ended up failing the NST - it was non-reassuring, and his heart rate would decel to 69. We couldn't get him to move. Luckily, my OB was on call that day, and had just left surgery with the anesthesiologist. 2:20pm they looked at the script, and prepped the OR for a stat section. Zach was born at 2:40pm. There was no way my DH would make it, and my mother (who lived 10 mins away), was a minute too late.
What followed was both the worse and best time of my life - the first week we didn't know if Zach would make it. We were offered a Baptism when he was 3do (unbeknownst to us at the time, he had suffered a lung collapse the night before - we were just told breathing difficulties and a set back) as they didn't know how it would turn out, he was holding on by a thread with machines breathing for him. After being kept in a coma for 8 days, he was allowed to wake up finally. At 10 days old, we were able to hold him for the first time, and at 2wo, we started our BFing relationship - with the exception of solids, we still EBF. I am so proud of my little nursling.
In total, he spent 23 days in a Level 3 NICU, and 5 in a Level 2 while he learned to take a bottle and BF. All in all, he should have been home about 5-6 days before he was, but bureaucracy in the hospitals meant testing was delayed, departments were not called when they should have been and we had to wait. And wait. As our primary nurse said to me, "Do not wish away your time here - to do so would be to wish away his life". It struck so true to me.
Flash forward to today - our miracle baby is a bright, happy, bubbly, fascinating little boy. We were told to expect gross and fine motor delays, anything from very minimal to potentially cerebral palsy. We're experiencing some anemia issues, and are looking into whether it's a leftover issue from the NICU (he had 2 platelet transfers due to this there), but otherwise he's healthy. We're working with both an occupational therapist and a developmental consultant as Zach is behind, but has learned to sit up so far.

He needs to look at and feel absolutely everything these days - you wouldn't be able to tell he was any different just by looking at him - simply behind, which is always a matter of opinion.

With no further delay, here's our photo roll of Zach's first months:

Z had one at 2wo. He was in the NICU though, and had been sedated for the first 8 days of his life, sedating him again at 2wo had hard to see. They tried a few times, but had to wait until he was stable enough to be on high-low flow ventilation.
They already had lines in him, so they simply took one and put the meds in it, he was out within a few minutes.
They sleep through the entire thing, but it's harder to see the needles go in that anything else.

I've been on here since 2006? I used to post in the Wedding forums but could never keep up (8/10/08 - I guess I was with a bunch of you!), plus it seemed like no one really paid attention to each others' posts, so I took a break, sold some wedding stuff and re-committed my life to WB when I joined the ranks of BB with TTCing in 2010.
I darken the doors of New Moms & Stork's Swap Shop these days, though TTCing will again be my home sometime next year.

Just want to see how many ladies developed repeat GH or pre-e in a subsequent pregnancy?
I was told while my chances of having it again in a 2nd pg is higher than those who didn't have it in their first, it's much lower than it is for a first timer.
So, did you have healthy pg after your first? Or did you have it in another? Thanks!

I had Scarlet Fever when I was 16 - started off with a sore throat on May 24 long weekend, Friday night. By the Sunday(had gone camping) I was hallucinating that the birds on the hydro wires were musical notes!
My Dad took me to the walk-in, who gave me a light dose of amoxicillin, and sent me home with strep throat. My GP diagnosed me the next day with scarlet fever, and mono. Said I'm lucky I didn't end up in the hospital, which is where the walk-in doc should have sent me.
The SF caused a heart murmur, which only recently resolved, after about 11 years. Every time I even got a sniffle after that caused my tounsils to swell and get puss-y, I had a very difficult time breathing and speaking around them. I had my tounsils out at 24, and have been much better since then.
Moderate gestational hypertension with DS.
DS had brain damage at birth, resulting in a 4 week NICU stay. Low glucose, collapsed lung, jaundice, low/high BP, persistent pulmonary hypertension, platelet transfusion - this kid went through everything. He's great now, with some delays.

I count BFing as an exercise, therefore it gives me an extra 500 calories a day.

Since we're EBF, he's still taking the same amount from me as before, but as he starts eating more solids, I'll add some of those calories back in (eg. 400 burnt rather than 500).

I had a stat section as well - I was all prepped for an induction the week after, but DS failed a NST so off to the OR we went. DH didn't even make it.
I had a spinal, rather than an epi. If it wasn't for the fact that I'd just had lunch, they would have put me totally under.
My recovery was hard - but they also told me it was because it was a stat, those are harder to recover from than scheduled apparently as they don't take their time with it. I also was under tons of stress at the time, which affects how your body heals. My incision also was oozing up until about 8w p/p, which was tons of fun.

DS started solids 2 weeks ago with banana puree, moved onto sweet potato puree and then rice cereal. He didn't take to any of them, made faces, etc. even with BM mixed in.
I decided to try banana puree, BM and a sprinkling of rice cereal yesterday - bammo, the kid will eat it.
However, hours later, he started coughing, and had a hard time breathing. He spat up banana puree.
Same thing tonight - he's a night owl, but had some banana mixture again tonight at 7pm. 9:30pm he goes to sleep, but is awake almost immediately. 10:30pm he's still awake (please kill me), and starts coughing. 2-3 seconds pass between breaths, I'm getting ready to flip him (CPR-C here thankfully!) and he takes a half breath. Does this a few times, and the spits up the banana again. Finally. He goes to sleep a few mins later (banana keeping him awake?).
These are purees - there's next to no solid banana in them. The rice cereal merely thickens it to a consistency he likes. He is having fine and gross motor issues as a result of his birth trauma, but has no issues BFing and swallowing, so I'm unsure if it's an issue with that, or something else.

If he's getting the opportunity to give her a bottle already, what's the big deal? Formula in a bottle or BM in a bottle equal the same daddy-daughter bonding, doesn't it?
It sounds to me like there's something deeper with your husband here - as long as the BFing relationship is working for baby/mom, it's always best. It doesn't always work, and that's okay, but it sounds like things are going well for you.
I'd personally tell my DH to shove it - you're doing your job and that's to do what's best for your baby. Can he bathe with your DD? That's bonding. Tummy/play time? That's bonding.
Feeding formula still takes your time as well - how does that free up time for you?

Warning - don't read if you get freaked out easily.
I'm having a really hard time picking 'the most'... I'll do a shortform of, unfortunately, several:
1. I used to live in a haunted house when I was 3. I'd wake up to a woman standing over me, and would run into my parents' room. I thought I was nuts for years, until I told my mom when I was 10. Turns out she'd see the lady as well, and she used to steal various household objects. She meant no harm, but we moved soon after.
2. My aunt lived in a century home in Cobourg, Ontario. The first time I visited, I felt something odd. I mentioned it to my parents in the car ride home. They fluffed me off. Second time I visited, I mentioned it again. My mom told me "Let's put it this way - there's people living there who don't pay rent".
My sister was visited by disturbing mental images when she visited my aunt; my cousin would mention (she was FIVE) seeing bad people, and that she couldn't sleep well there, but slept fine in our house. I was babysitting her one day, and she looked up and said 'She's here', in this creepiest voice. I had felt the 'thing' enter the room a few seconds beforehand myself. My cousin wouldn't talk about it though.
There was various areas in the house I could not stand.
I have to block these things out now - too many times I'm caught off-guard when passing by a house, or even looking at object sometimes.
3. I knew my son was ill in utero - despite all the medical professionals saying he was fine, the ultrasounds were fine, etc. I knew it. I demanded he be delivered the day he was born. I also knew he'd be okay, despite everything (though it's hard to believe that gut feeling at the time). He spent 4 weeks in the NICU after a very traumatic c/s; it was very touch and go throughout the first 2 weeks. I was told if he hadn't been delivered when he was, he would have been still born.
4. I called my BFF, telling her I had had a dream about her, and that she was pregnant one day. She denied it, left, right and centre. She told me later that I had freaked her out - she had taken a HPT that morning and found out that she, in fact, was pg. She had barely told her DH when I called! I also told her it was twins, and boys before she even had an u/s. And I was right. I've been right a few other times as well.
I've also been right when reading palms, unfortunately, usually about m/c. I stopped doing that though.
5. My mother got pg with my sister as a surprise; they'd been planning a 3rd, but had a whoopsie earlier than expected. My mom ended up having a m/c, but still felt pg - she had been pg with twins, and my sister had survived. For years my sister would say she wished she had a twin, and that she had dreamed she had one. This was long before she even knew about her twin.
6. We had lost my dog, Mariah, the week before DH and I went away for a weekend. Our friends ended up not showing up at their cottage, so we had nowhere to stay, and were not prepared for this. We were freezing in our car. My dog used to keep me warm at night, and I asked her to do so again - instantly, my toes were so warm and I could feel a weight on them.
I also can occasionally feel touches when no one's there.
7. While on vacation in Key West, my sister and I did a ghost walk. We were brought to an abandoned building, and asked to pick up vibes about the building by putting our hands on it. I couldn't do it. I could barely stand under the canopy.
We were then brought across the street, and asked to talk about our experience. I kept getting a flash of a face in my mind, and kept feeling hot (yes, it was Florida, but this was HOT). I told the guide about it, and he opened his binder - there was the face I was describing.
Apparently, in the 1800's, the building was originally a church. The pastor thought his wife was cheating on him with the groundskeeper, and he decided to do something about it. She used to have a school in the basement, and was down there with the children and the groundskeeper one day. The pastor locked the door, and set fire to the building. They all died. There's a graveyard down the street from the building, with the names of all the children from that fire, buried there.

Totally forgot to touch on some things...
Swim Class - And I completely forgot to say that Zach hates swim class too! He didn't mind it when we took him ourselves, but something about the class he hates!
Fitness - I started postnatal fitness classes last week! The one instructor is awesome, really concerned about your wellbeing, etc. I've had 4 car accidents (3 I was driving - 1 was my fault, the other I was a passenger), I've fallen off a skidoo, and sprained my ankle badly a few years ago. Exercise is hard for me - some normal days are hard for me, I hurt! She listened, made suggestions and is going to give me a hand in the future with difficult moves. The other instructor? Didn't even listen to me when I tried explaining myself, spoke over me and when I said that Cathy (#1 instructor) suggested I don't use the step, #2 instructor said "And what if I told you to?" My response? "As a retired massage therapist, I know what my body is capable of and when damage is occurring. I'd skip the step." Biatch!
Solids - We're going to be starting solids the weekend after Thanksgiving. Is anyone else 'jealous' of the solids? We fought so hard for a good BFing relationship.

How proud of me am I? I made it back before the end of the month! Woot! Sleeping - Zach is still hit and miss....
How proud of me am I? I made it back before the end of the month! Woot!
Sleeping - Zach is still hit and miss. When he first found his thumb, he'd sleep 9pm-5am, eat, wake up at 6:30am, eat, sleep til 8am. He never falls asleep before 9pm regardless, but now he's back up at 2am (or 12:30am last night, I fell asleep 20 mins before that) and the rest of the schedule's the same. I find it takes me about 10 mins just to get out of bed at 6:30am when he cries. I feel bad, but I just. can't. get. up.
Teething - Zach's teething. My GP showed up the white ridge and blood vessels at his 4mo appt, and his gum swelled shortly after that. Now you can feel the tooth under the gum.
Weight - he's now 16 lb 11 oz at his 5mo appt.

He keeps gaining over 2 lb/month, and our GP said that if we'd been healthy at birth, he would have been over 9 lb! Now, for a first baby, ouch! I'm scared for my 2nd - in more ways than one!
BFing - We're still EBF here, and Zach eats anywhere from 1.5 - 2.5 hours still. Again, GP says it's fine - he's stocking himself up for overnights.

He bites my nipple too, how rude.
Nipple pain - I can't recall who had it, but I had nipple pain for awhile as well; it also got itchy for a time and BFing was the only way to partially soothe it. I'm not sure what it was, as I've had blocked ducts, a nipple blister, you name it, and it didn't feel like either of those.
Ashley - Just remember - growth spurts = more eating, more often = lower supply when you pump. And - pumping = less efficient than a baby. = = = = !

LOL. What I mean is don't worry about your supply unless he's not producing enough wet diapers, etc. or losing weight. Take him in for a weigh if you're really concerned, but have faith that his body and your body are in sync and working together.

Laker - I hope it corrects itself again!
WGirl - They say green poop can be too much foremilk, not enough hindmilk. As previously mentioned, if they 'snack' too often without getting a full meal, you get green poop.

I was supposed to be Christened as a baby, but my parent's BFF's son died of SIDS in the crib next to me, my mother just couldn't do it. Neither of my siblings was Christened either.
Religion was important in my DH's family growing up, they were all baptized as kids. Being a Baptist, they believe in baptizing only when the child is old enough to make the decision themselves.
I wanted to be baptized myself, but DH has moved away from the church himself, and I've been a little unimpressed with his family's church in the past. I arranged to have an in-home baptism last year at my mother's; it was important to me before we had kids.
We'll allow Zach and his future sibling(s) to make their own decision when he's ready to; he's been to church once in his life, so we don't really attend on a regular basis.

I accidentally put my cell phone on the food tray in the hospital - it was soaking wet from my water. It, of course, died, and that was the number we'd given the NICU to call if they needed us (true eejit here).
I switched to a backup cell, took out the battery from the soaked one, and let it air dry for a few days. It's back to normal.

My mother has always joked that I have enough hair for 3 people. Man, does it feel like it now!
Mine started at 3mo pp, and it's still going strong. I have to run my hands through my hair multiple times in the shower, pulling handfuls out. The little tickle drives me nuts all day. I have to clean out my brush every morning as well, and then run my hands through my hair, pulling out handfuls after that still!

People really truly have different healing experiences, lol - I had a very hard time driving even 2 weeks pp; I only did as I had to. Zach was in the NICU for 4 weeks, but even so, I don't think I could have worn him in the first 6w pp. I still have pain occasionally now!

I had a m/w and an OB - they told me different things, lol.
M/w said not to get pregnant until 18-24 mo had passed if I wanted a VBAC. OB said VBAC will be okay to deliver 18 - 24 mo after the first. How's that for confusing? They're doing shared care for my next pg, so I'm not worried about trying for a VBAC. My OB also said I could get pg at 6mo pp if I wanted another c/s.
My m/w also said that since mine was a stat section, and I have no apparent physiological reason why I can't have a VBAC, and is in support of my trial of labour next time.
Now, I also know of moms who had successful VBACs at 22mo between deliveries; but I also know a mom whose uterus ruptured during her attempted VBAC, and she was over 2 years. She was about to get an epi, but needed to go to the bathroom, where she discovered she was pouring blood (they hadn't checked her often). She had a stat section, which discovered her uterus had adhered to her bladder, and both had ripped when contractions started.
I myself am waiting 13mo to TTC again; the darn BFing hormones coursing through me want that to be much, much earlier, but it's really important for me to attempt a VBAC, and I'd like to see how my work handles my return first. It took us 4mo to conceive DS, but even if it's the first time for #2 it'll still hopefully be 24mo between deliveries.
Regardless, I will insist on an u/s to check the integrity of my scar along the way.

DH has the opinion that I'm not working. Plain and simple. I hate it. Quite honestly, I'm feeling resentful of this.
He moved into the spare room when Zach was 2mo.
So, he's never woken up for a night time feeding, we EBF. He's never changed a bum at night, and has only been up for a handful of times when Zach was going through his grumpy witching hour times. Every time but twice he did that he'd give me nothing but attitude.
He's a drywaller, and 'needs to be awake all day'. Sure, but that doesn't mean you get 8 hours sleep when I was getting 2. 6 or 7 hours is plenty to give me a break when DS is screaming.
My father, uncle and plenty of other men have told DH the importance of getting up to help (my dad used to get up just to bring baby to my mom, change a bum, etc. and he had an important job to attend to in the morning as well). DH still whines.
He used to wake up and take Zach for me in the morning on weekends, but that turned into him taking his time and me waiting half an hour for him to come get him. I try to fall back to sleep but am already awake after waiting so long.

It's neat, I'm not 100% certain I truly believe in it, but I did feel some effect from it myself. Just not sure if it fixed anything, lol.
Chiro is also good as well. If DH let me I'd take Zach with me for my appts.

Oh, ladies, I suck at keeping up on BB these days. Too many things to do. And, like Ashley, Zach doesn't nap. I'm lucky I can get 30 mins these days, and he's back to nap nursing on the boob again. He was getting so good at night, but is now pulling out the stops and waking up whenever he feels like it. Like 130am last night. I disagreed with his decision making.
Kind of a late update, but at his 4mo 1w checkup, he was 14lb 3oz and 26" long.
He had a checkup at McMaster 2 weeks ago, and while they don't want to say he's behind, they're playing it by ear and will see how he does at his next appointment in November. He has a developmental consultant that visits us at home as well, and she agrees he's having a few difficulties in gross and fine motor skills. I have to say though - we're just happy he has use of his limbs, etc. My brother skipped crawling (he bum-hopped) and if Zach does the same, so be it.

I'll try and catch up on August's thread at some point for shout-outs!

Meetings will take place whenever we feel like it, supporting new parents whose babies take it upon themselves to appear cute and chubby with round little bellies, only to set themselves upon their seniors with aggressive intentions.
**********
My name is Mommy, and my baby likes to abuse me.
He'll be all cute and chubby on his change table, tummy exposed, tempting me into blowing bubbles on said tummy. Once, twice, three times will go by without incident, then BAM! Baby strikes!
He grabs my hair with one hand, while holding onto one of my hands with his free hand. Next thing I know, I'm trapped with my hair wrapped in his hands, face trapped against that cute, cute belly, with baby's knees pummeling me in the face. Laughter is heard interspersed with 'Zach, please stop attacking mommy. Zach, honey, anything you want, just let go of mommy's hair!'
I've had to bring in reinforcements (aka DH) twice now to detach me from my almost 5mo.
This kid is going to be a baller some day! And my face will be like apple sauce by the time we get there.

I wish I could do a course here! I can't find any, but I've tried so many carriers and can't get Z to like a single one.
I have a Moby, a Snugli (I figured out this one, but he's not very comfy in it), a Beco Butterfly II (hates this one and I have no idea how to froggy), an Amy Coe sling, and a Seven Sling which is too small for me. I'd love to be able to wear Zach a lot more!

I still have the overhang, and can't seem to lose the last 22 lbs. I lost 20 within the first month, but had a lot of stress/poor diet as well at the time. None of my undies fit properly - they all dig in at the incision site.
I had issues with my incision healing - I had oozing and gross stuff up to about 7w pp. It started 10d pp.
Be prepared for a lot of itching.
DS is 4mo tomorrow, and I still get some twitchy pains now and then.

Just wondering how many babies are FF though? I was under the impression if FF then they sleep a little longer?
