ODD is 4.5 and we've discovered one of her bottom front teeth is loose. DH thinks she's too young and that something is wrong, but I figure that she hasn't been complaining of any pain, so it must just be a normal (maybe a little early) loose tooth.
When did your kid lose their first tooth?

I would go visit her if YOU feel the need to see her or even say a few words, regardless of what your uncle says.
I was only 16 when my grandmother passed away from cancer. She was a shell of herself and I avoided seeing her in her last days because I couldn't handle the sadness I felt when I was in the same room. I don't fault my 16 year old self, but my 30 year old self wishes to this day that I had sat next to her and held her hand one last time.
I don't think you'll regret saying Goodbye, even though she may not hear you.

We usually do an 'egg' hunt with some candies and a few gifts hidden around the main floor. I'll probably get a few colouring things, activity books, a movie and some puzzles.

I've been asked if it was planned. But mostly, people insist that we MUST be trying for a boy since we have two girls. I don't think people really believe us when we say we don't care either way. We wanted another child, the gender was irrelevant when making that decision.

I did FI but I'm not sure that I'd call myself fluent. I can carry on a conversation, but will make mistakes and often worry if I'm using the right grammar so I tend to shy away from speaking french if I don't need to. How silly is that.
I do like how it made learning other languages, like spanish, much easier.
The plan so far is to put our children in FI also. I personally think it can open some doors in the futur, both education and career wise. I have a friend though that thinks FI is just a bunch of hype and doesn't give your kid any advantages.

I'm sure they are just laughing at all this type of ridiculous speculation. 'We' want pregnant celebrities to get fat, but not too fat and look good, but not too good. Expect no privacy, but don't you dare put it all out there, because then you're just asking for it. I dunno, they had a baby, they look happy, good for them. Not really sure why it has to be analyzed to death.
You can go down in BB and read a hundred different posts asking if how much they've gained or not gained is 'normal'. Is showing too early or too late 'normal'? What's the standard? I've gained like 6lbs this pregnancy and will come out weighing less post birth than I did pre-pregnancy. But I'm no Beyonce, so I doubt anyone will want to see my stretch marks as proof of baby ownership.
Cute baby. Love the hair.

DH's uncle was a hoarder. He was one of the extreme hoarders you see on t.v. with no funtioning toilet and filth everywhere. He was an alcoholic and probably suffered some kind of mental illness. He died in his apartment and wasn't discovered until another tenant smelt something 'off' coming from his apartment. They think he was dead for a few days. It's quite sad that he lived and died that way. DH's family was shocked when they finally had to go in and clear his things out. He lived a very lonely life.

ODD's school wasn't originally scheduled to be full day j/k s/k until 2014, however, we received word the other day that it'll be full time starting this September. ODD will be s/k by then and in general I'm not too worried about her transition.
I'm curious if your kids are already full day kindergarten how do you think they're doing?
Are they thriving, or just getting by...is it too long of a day for them?
Is there anything that you aren't impressed with, or are happy with?
What has your experience been so far?

I was recently obsessing over this myself(the same three bags even), since #3 will be hear soon enough.
The Bento was my favorite online, until we saw it in person. The built in food container is a great idea, but I realized that it had less interior space because of it. But, I'm considering the needs of three, so it might very well be enough for two. I also considered how much I really need a built in food area at all times. Seemed like a waste of space if I didn't need to be packing food.
I like the Studio. It had a lot of space and does have a nicer 'look' to it, but DH vetoed it right away for that reason. It was too pursey for him.
We went with the Duo Double in black, because it ultimately had the space for anything we would ever need to do. Lots of exterior pockets, some insulated and some not. Lots of pockets inside and a nice big open space in the middle so that if you wanted to you could easily put your own lunch box or whatever in there for the kids food.
I think if you're looking for the bag to function as a carry-on and be suitable for long outing, I'd go with the Duo Double. It isn't as pretty as many of the other bags out there, but it is big and practical and so far we've had it loaded with diapers, sippies, clothes and books and it still had a ton of space.

"I'll move out and won't be a pain to u guys anymore. " I don't think this is manipulation, I think it's more like he's testing you. He probably needs the reassurance that you guys do love him and want him around. I have a step-mom, and I remember always wondering how she felt about my brother and I and not really being sure of where we kids fit into things.
I don't think you need to make some grand declaration of love, but I think incorporating it into small moments and casual conversation is a great way to make your feelings known. But you should definately make a point of saying the words. I wouldn't leave it for him to assume, he's just a kid.
I'm sure it's tough being a step-mom, it's definately tough being a step-kid. I think step-sons are trickier. My brother was a sensitive kid, but never showed his emotions to our parents. I know he suffered by keeping it to himself all those years. I did what I could but I'm sure if our step-mom had stepped up and made herself more available emotionally, it would have made all the difference.
Good luck.

We just had ODD's 4th birthday party. I thought, and planned for all the parents to stay but out of seven kids, only 2 parents stayed. I was surprised, but glad that they left because the girls had SOOO much fun just being kids without their parents around. I thought it was going to be chaos, but they followed instructions well. I think the trick might be the length of the party. Ours was two hours, and it was just enough time to play some games, do some dancing, eat and open presents.
At 4, after seeing how our party went, I'd be more open to leaving her if she was comfortable with it.

I didn't read all of the replies.
I think that this is your opportunity to make something of nothing. He is reaching out and starting to take responsibility. It has to start somewhere, and I'm sure it wasn't an easy thing to write you a letter like that knowing all the damage that was caused.
A few questions I would be asking myself though:
How much are you willing to put yourself out there? Are you willing to risk getting burned if things didn't work out? Do you think you would regret dismissing him all together without giving him the chance to redeem himself. Can you put aside(not forget) the past in order to give a new relationship a real shot?
You can start with a small gesture and slowly build on it if you like the direction that it's heading. You are the one who controls what you're willing to accept and believe as it's presented to you. I might even be inclined to initially just keep it about you and him, focus on building that relationship before introducing him to your LO if that's something you're concerned about.
I think the situation with his children is horrible and really sad, but I'm not convinced that the punishment for that should be coming from you. If he's truly a changed man, I'm sure he's living with the guilt and saddness of what happened with his children. And ultimately they are the ones that he should have to answer to when the time comes and they want answers.
It's a tough spot you're in. I hope it all works out for you.

I said No, because while I don't see it being too much of an issue while my kids are small, I remember HATING only having one bathroom when I was a pre-teen/teen. There was never enough space or privacy.
But when we were looking at buying a home a few years ago, I would have said YES because we didn't think it was in our budget. Now that I have an ensuite, I'm not sure I could go back to not having one while the kids are still at home.

DH and I decided to downgrade our cable package, so I haven't seen Dexter for the past two weeks. I know I can watch it online, but I have to say, I have zero desire to anymore.
They lost me somewhere this season, and I doubt that I'll bother trying to catch up to see what happens. It's a shame because I really enjoyed Dexter's character pre-self discovery. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
Enjoy the rest of the season, although it sounds like a sinking ship for a few of you also.

I'm sure this has been posted at some point this month, but I just wanted to post again just how important it is for the men in our lives to get their prostates checked.
My Dad called me today to tell me that he's been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He's known for a few weeks, but was nervous about telling me because I'm pregnant and he didn't want to stress me out. Apparently it's in the early stages and surgery should be all that he needs, but I don't think it lessens the blow of hearing the big 'C' word at all.
It'll be an emotional Christmas since his surgery is scheduled just before the New Year. He and his doctors are very optimistic, so I'm trying not to worry too much, but all I can think about is my big bear of a dad being sick and wanting him to be better.
So remember to remind your dads, brothers, uncles and any other men you care about to get checked.

You had the same night that I did last night. It's funny that you mention potty training, because YDD actually asked to use the potty when I first went into the room. YDD(2) was up at 2am and didn't go back to sleep until almost 4am. ODD(4) woke up on and off during our attempts to get YDD back to sleep. I ended up falling asleep in YDD's bed unintentionally. The girls have been sharing for a few months too, and we've had a handful of nights like this.
We're also expecting #3, so I totally understand where you're coming from. Having any of the kids in our room isn't an option either.
I'm never really sure what to do about it either, and being pregnant, I just can't sit/lay with them like I used to before it becomes too uncomfortable.
I want to just let YDD CIO and let it play out a few nights to see how they both do, but DH always wants to step in so we're having difficulty even agreeing between the two of us. Sorry, I'm not much help...I just find some comfort in the thought that they won't be 2 and 4 forever and things will eventually get easier.
Let me know if you find something that works for you...

ODD is having her first friends party next weekend. We have eleven invites out all together and have heard back from 3 people. Two of the moms, I can contact no problem to see if they're coming, but the others are school kids and I'm not sure what to do about this.
What are you supposed to do? Try to contact the other invitees? I can send a note through the teacher at school, but I don't want to seem pushy.
Or are you just supposed to leave it alone and just wait and see if people show?
I'm not worried about only a few people coming, I just want to be prepared. 3 kids vs 11 is a big difference (not that I think everyone would just show up). How hard is it to RSVP anyway...
So more experienced moms/dads: WWYD?

I felt like saying Welcome Back at the end. I hope that's the end of his quest for higher meaning. Dexter needs that edge, he was getting too soft.
I'm hoping that the meaning behind seeing his brother instead of his father is that Dexter is fully accepting his dark passenger for what it is. His father is his moral compass, and his brother might offer him that push to be what he is without constantly questionning. Just a thought...
I was honestly starting to lose a little interest, so I hope the next few episodes take us back to some old Dexter.
I have a feeling that Colin Hanks' sister might end up a victim.

I know my kid isn't even four yet, but she's made a friend at her bus stop that is Muslim. Her family is super nice, she lives one street over and apparently, this little girl talks about ODD as much as ODD talks about her.
I want to encourage whatever friendship may come of it, but I'm not sure how or if I should talk about religion and the differences that she's already noticed: like no Halloween, and they don't celebrate birthdays (coincidently, the kids share the same birthday and were born in the same hospital within an hour of eachother).
I don't know a whole lot about the Muslim culture, and as a completely non-religious person, I'm a little reluctant to bring up religion at all. I'm just at a loss of how to approach this at all.
How do you talk to your kids about other people's religion/beliefs, especially if you're not religious?

I don't think this is an actual policy, but ODD was told that they shouldn't bring any Halloween candies to school in their snacks. She was told that they are home treats, not school treats by one of the teachers. She's in j/k.
I'm a little miffed by this. We send healthy snacks every day, typically a fruit, yogurt and some kind of cracker or cheese. I don't see why I can't send one small candy in her bag if I want to. I won't send them though because I don't want her singled out for not having a healthy snack.
Does anyone else have any candy/treat restrictions?

Have you ever hired an entertainer for your kid's party, or been to a party that had one?
The invites are out and we could potentially have up to 10 4 year olds at my house for her birthday party. We've been thinking about what games to play, and the idea of hiring an entertainer for a hour came up.
So was it worth it in the end? or if you've been to a party with one, did it seem like the kids responded well?

I chose PM this year because I like the buffer of time to get everyone rangled.
Our day usually goes like this:
-YDD is up first, we wait for ODD to get up then we eat.
-The kids play, colour, watch some tv, while I get their clothes ready and ODDs bag packed for school.
-By then it's usually a quick lunch, then we're out the door to the bus stop to drop ODD off.
-YDD has a nap and I enjoy almost 2 hours of quiet.
-We pick ODD up, come home and I start dinner while they play.
In theory, the baby due in March will also nap during the 'quiet' time. As long as ODD s/k isn't full time by next year, we'll be chosing PM again.
I figure that even if the baby and YDD don't sleep at the same time, it'll be nice to have some mommy and baby time without the other kids around.

How about a blood slide garland or something with blood slides. If you want to incorporate his foes from past seasons, you could put some dismembered Barbies or fingers with different coloured nail polish as an example of one.
Maybe put "Slice of Life' up somewhere for his boat. Use some syringes for shots...if you find some big enough or just as decoration.
Sound like a great party.

We have a master bath, so the main bathroom is for the kids only.
Would you give a kids bathroom a more fun decor? We never have guests that stay more than a night, and people rarely go upstairs to use the washroom anyway so it really is just for the kids.
I'm thinking a brighter colour, fun curtains and art on the walls. I have two girls with another baby on the way, so the gender of the third kiddo might sway the colour choices.
Any ideas?

ODD loves watching, but she nearly broke my heart one day when she put some on then said "NOW I'm beautiful mommy!" I told her she's always beautiful. It made me think twice about her watching me get ready. We do break out the makeup every once and a while for fun and do clown faces or crazy funky makeup to show dad. I find it hard to explain why I use makeup without the message somewhat always coming back to how you look making you feel better.
Both girls are obsessed with taking my body lotion and sneaking off with it. I've found them a few times with their arms and faces completely covered.

I tested with this pregnancy a few days before DH was going away for a boys weekend. I wanted him to have a great time with the guys without the shock of thinking about baby #3, which was planned, but happened a lot faster than we thought it would. Either way, it's always special when you tell DH compared to anyone else so I don't think it could diminish how I would feel telling him or how he would feel getting the news.

I have a family member who gets regular readings, and she really believes in it. Her mother is also big into spirits and ghosts. Apparently, she's 'seen' the spirits of the children I'm supposed to have. But she also told me that watching scary movies while pregnant isn't good for the baby, so I don't take anything she says all that seriously.

I have a recurring dream about how I would keep my kids safe in the event of someone breaking into our home or a fire. It always makes me think I should have one of those emergency escape ladders somewhere upstairs.
It sounds like maybe we should have some kind of weapong upstairs just in case though.
DH freaked me out one night last summer. I was in the kitchen late and I hear something outside in the backyard. I'm thinking it's another raccoon, so I peek out the blinds to see if I can see him doing anything. It was friggen DH and one of his co-workers in the dark in their navy blue work overalls. I think I almost had a heart attack when I first saw them. Apparently DH thought it would be a good idea to tackle the bee problem at like 1am.
