My husband and I are both teachers and we were thinking of starting up a tutoring business on the side.m I would target per-k, k, grade 1 age as a readiness for reading skills sort of thing and my husband would primarily focus on math. We also debated doing an EQA0 prep kind of thing as there would be interest in that, but we don't believe in the test so pretty sure we won't do that!

Personally I didn't like the 3 day method. Too much like potty training boot camp for me. Sure most kids can be successful if you push them hard enough. But it totally depends on what your comfort level is.
K did have a lot of new baby regression. She wanted and still does to,be held and carried a lot, is really into soothers even though she never had one, and is obsessed with footie PJ's. Tantrums surround all of these things so we just are going with it.
Potty training is one are we didn't have a problem with. After trying the 3 day method this summer and quitting after 2 days we just kind of followed her lead. We had the potty and little seat out, we read about using the potty and watched movies, she had a smartie if she used it and sometimes she even picked out her own potty candy from the bulk section. 2 weeks after W came home she announced on a Saturday morning that she was going to wear underwear. When we suggested she wear a diaper for her nap she said, "I said goodbye diapers!". We have her in them for night still and for now she is ok. It has been 3 weeks and we have had 5 or 6 accidents which is petty great!
I would wait, go with the flow and make it casual. However you could try the 3 day method and see how you like it!

My DD is similar. She has great language and thinking skills and we often forget that she's only 2.5. When she's calm and good she's really good. However the flip side is she has wicked tantrums. I find that a "stern" talking to does little to calm her down in the heat of it. I agree with Kathryn, I don't think you handled it incorrectly at all!
Sometimes when speaking calmly doesn't work with her I just walk away and leave her to scream. After a few moments when has started to calm I go back and she's usually ready to talk. However this doesn't always work and usually we need to be at home!
Hopefully it's just a phase.

We either involve her in making dinner or I give her a "busy bin" (thanks to mommajacks for the awesome idea!) I have about 10 bins made up with different activities in them that she is only allowed to play with when I need her to be busy. Some of the activities are lacing cards, simple puzzles, magnets, marble run, colouring book with markers, plastic animals with felt scene. I switch up the activities every so often so it is fresh.
I get a lot of the things from the dollar store. Today I needed her to be busy while I fed the baby and then did the dishes so we could make cookies. So far they work well for us.
Here she is playing with them today. One bin had simple 2 piece puzzles and one had plastic animals. Both things were from the Dollar Store.

I am so torn on the soother because he was born tongue tied and it's been over a week since we had it clipped but he took a while to figure out the latch so I don't want to mess with the latch but I don't know how long I can go on.
I hope it's just cluster feeding and it passes. DD was so different I really was spoiled with her!

My little guy has a rattlIng wheezy sound when he is breathing. Occasionally he squeals and tries to clear it. Nursing is proving to be difficult for him as he is gulping and the wheezing increases. He had a lot of fluid in his lungs at birth but it seemed to clear up but maybe they are related? My doctor opens in an hour so I think I will take him. Anyone experience this with their little ones?

Short Version:
William Alexander born 2:01am February 19th 8lbs 1oz and 21" long
Long Version:
I finished work on February 17th and was looking forward to a few days off, possibly a week with my D. My due date was February 24th. I was 9 days late with her and had to be induced so I was thinking a similar thing would happen. Especially since I was just at my OB the day before where she did an internal exam and there was nothing happening. Baby was still up really high and I was not even dilated a finger tip!
I woke up the next morning and had some spotting. Thought it was probably related to the internal exam. My DH teased me that baby was probably going to come sooner than I thought. He reminded me of the number of females he works with (we are both teachers) that went off on leave and had their babies within the next day or two. I shrugged him off.
We went car shopping around 10:00am. I actually started feeling crampy, like period cramps but again figured it was related to the exam. We ended up finding a car we really liked so as we were doing up the paper work the cramps started to get a bit stronger. At 1:00 I met my best friend at the mall for a long awaited afternoon out. By now the contractions were certainly much stronger but I could still talk, laugh, walk etc. I joked with my BFF that maybe this baby was coming but then said, no it's probably just a sign that things are going to start in the near future. Since I didn't labour naturally last time I didn't really know what to expect.
My best friend, her DH and DS came to our house for dinner. Throughout the evening my contractions definitely started to pick up in intensity, regularity and were starting to get closer together. By the time they left around 8:30 I'd say there were about 5-8 minutes apart. I hadn't started timing yet. My BFF told me later she said to her DH that I was going to have the baby sometime this evening or early morning for sure!
I was STILL in denial that anything was happening but I had my DH download an app on my phone to time contractions because I was curious. Around 10:00 they were roughly 5 minutes apart. I talked to my sister in Australia for an hour on SKYPE and by the end of the conversation I had to get up to walk around or go on all fours and just focus on breathing. I finally said to my DH, "okay this is really happening!". I had him call his mom to come down but wasn't worried because we are literally a 2 minute drive to the hospital. She felt as I did that it wasn't time yet that I would probably be sent home.
She arrived around midnight, and in the mean time I talked to my parents on SKYPE (they were travelling home from Texas) and had a shower. The shower really picked up the intensity of the contractions and I was now about 2 minutes apart, but I was still breathing through them.
I called Labour and Delivery to tell them I was coming and we arrived there around 12:30. It was a bit of a hike because I was too stubborn to go in a wheel chair so I had to stop every 2 mintues. But to be honest walking and standing felt a lot better than sitting. Still breathing though. When I arrived at the registration desk at L&D my water broke standing there. The nurses said it was like a movie scene because that never actually happens!
I was assessed and was 5-6cm dilated. I told them I wanted the epidural so they started me on the IV right away so I could have the fluids. Contractions were very strong but if I squeezed DH's hand and focused on my breathing I was actually okay.
I got into a room around 1:00am. I had a fabulous nurse and midwife resident who never left my side, except to get the anesthesiologist. While I was waiting for him to arrive I had a really painful contraction that I screamed through. But DH and the MW were awesome! They talked me through it and calmed me down. MW rubbed my back and was super positive! I had 2 more like that before the anesthesiologist arrived. He came and I had to sit up to be prepared. He told me to sit really still and I laughed at him! As he was prepping I got the sudden urge that I had to push. I knew the baby was coming right away. The Nurse told me to lay down and I shouted at her "I can't". She laughed and said "well then you are going to sit on your baby!"
As they were getting me to lay I started to panic and cry that I need the epidural! They told me it was too late so I shouted, "well give me something then!" Again they said nothing would work fast enough.
I am ashamed to admit it but I lost my cool for a minute. I was just so scared to have a baby naturally. But my husband was amazing, I was so proud of him! He held on to me and said, "you can do it! You already are doing it!" So I focused on a light on the ceiling and just breathed and did what I was told. It was 1:45 and our little man was born at 2:01. Once his shoulders got through it was instant relief!
"Ring of Fire" was very minimal and I didn't tear at all. They told me I had a super high pain threshold to be able to breathe through them like I did. I was so scared though, but after I felt so proud of myself.
Anyway, William is 8 days old now and he's darling. DD is adjusting well to him. She kisses him and calls him "buddy" or "little buddy". Today is my first day alone with both of them and it's going pretty well.
William was born tongue tied so nursing was an issue for us. He lost a bit of weight from 8lbs 1 oz to 7lbs 8 oz at discharge and eventually 7lsbs 5ozs. My supply wasn't coming in, he was jaundice too. Thursday I had a really hard emotional day. Thanks to 2 great friends (who happen to be WB ladies, Coley and mommajacks) I survived my lowest point! William had his tongue time clipped on Friday and now is nursing like champ, and recovering well. I hired a private LC to get me through the week before his clip and I will see her again tomorrow.
Anyway, thanks for reading if you got this far. Yesterday Coley's super fantastic photographer husband did a newborn shoot at our home. Here are a bunch of our favourites!
Enjoy

-I am on day 5 of the 'no-poo' method and I have to say my hair is fabulous. I think the transition has gone well because I didn't wash daily anyway. I've been mixing 1 tbsp of baking soda in a cup of water. I put it on my roots and gently massage and then rinse. Then I take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in 1 cup of water and rinse it through the hair. My hair is soft, manageable and does not smell like vinegar at all. Very impressed with this method!
cleaning supplies- what do you use
-Vinegar and water for my floors
-Norwex antibac cleaning cloths (reusable microfibre cloths) and their window polishing cloth. These two things in combination are AMAZING!
-Microfibre dust mop
cooking- pots and pans, do you have any recommendations
body wash- what do you use?
-Microfibre Body Polishing cloth from Norwex. It's antibac and you don't even need to use soap! I have the face cloths too.

So I've decided to ditch shampoo. For several reasons but the number one being the chemicals used in shampoo. Aparantely you don't actually need shampoo or conditioner because our bodies produce oil to naturally condition our hair and keep it healthy. Using shampoo daily upsets the natural balance and causes you to produce more oil than necessary to compensate.
Makes sense. I kind of jumped in this morning and washed my hair with baking soda and water only. But after googling tonight I read that some people find the baking soda dries out their scalp/hair. Some people do an apple cider vinegar rinse after the baking soda and some just use the vinegar.
Obviously there is a transition period where your hair gets a lot worse before it's better. But the "no-poo'ers" claim once they get over that hump their hair is thicker, shinier and healthier than ever.
Has anyone on here also gone "no-poo"? What was your journey like and what is the process you use?

I have 2 and they are UGLY! One is an old faded Mickey Mouse on my ankle that I got just after I turned 18. The other one is between my shoulder blades that is "princess" written in Japanese writing that I got when I turned 20.
I plan on getting them removed once my student loan debt is paid.

I'm gearing up to potty train my DD. We've been doing it casually since the Summer and when she's home with me she will usually use the potty and maybe have 0-2 accidents a day. However, when she's at the babysitter's this isn't being followed through so I haven't really pushed it.
I'm off soon on Mat leave and once I feel settled with the baby I want to train her.
Should I just put her in underwear and deal with the occasional accident or should I purchase training style pants?
If you used training underwear what did you use? Fuzzi Bunz has these really cute ones called Trickle Free Trainers but they seem kind of pricey so I'm not sure if it's worth it.
