I'm so sad to hear that WB is closing the forums.

I haven't been on for a while, as with most people I ahve moved to Buzzle since posts weren't really getting answered as uch on here. BUt it's been a good 7 or 8 years for me. I was on here for the 18 months leading up to my wedding, through all the wedding craziness, TTC #1 and the birth and raising of the first few years of my DD, buying houses, the death of my father, etc. So much has gone on and I've received such astounding support from these boards as well as met some great ladies!!!! I ermember evenings on Friday or Saturday (FNLC or SNLC :p) curling up on the couch witha movie on in the background while I surfed WB and just chatted idly. I'm so sad to see it go and all the memories I had of it.
Love you girls!!!!!!

Thanks! The only thing is, the Graco stroller we used to have, I loved. It did fine in the winter and met all my other needs, as does the one I'm looking at now. I just don't know how the new wheels do in the snow.

The other higher end fancy strollers are really pretty but they all seems to have super small baskets, which is useless to me. I bus so I need a good size basket underneath to carry things in.

Hi all,
I was looing at the Graco Stylus Travel System (Montego) at BRU. I loved it! It's so light, easy to manoevure, adjustible handle, big basket, the only thing that I'm worried about is how it might do in the snow. Does anyone have any experiences with this system?? Or alternatively any of the Graco travel systems? Our old Graco had rubber on the top of the wheels and I notice now that all the new ones are all made out of plastic so it leaves me wondering what it is like to push through or over snow. The Montego has single sheels in teh front (vs. the double wheels) so not sure if that makes any difference.
Can anyone comment?? That would be great!! Even if it's not on this particular model, if you have a Graco system with platic wheels (Single front wheels preferably), please let me know how you find it in the winter time.
Thanks!!

Thanks Peacetower! I actually have seen some coverage on the gay-straight alliances in schools. You just reminded me of it though so I might look further into that.
Both schools are close but the Catholic school is closer. They both offere before and after care.
Just to clarify your last point, our thoughts/reason isn't to send DD to a catholic school in order to expose her to some religion. In fact the religious aspect has nothing to do with our core reasons. As I said previously, I like the fact that she would learn more in depth about (a different) religion and the bible, but that is merely a bonus. Also, it could also be viewed as an opportunity to teach kids a different religion and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It doesn't mean parents don't darken a doorstep of a house of worship. I have friends that are sending their son to a Catholic school next year and they go to church every week and they aren't Catholic. They are actually sending him because they only have part time kindergarted and they don't feel he's ready for full time, which is what the other school in our district has. The reasons DH and I are looking into it actually have nothing to do with the religious aspect. I do understand your point on the government funding schools of a certain religion though.

That's actually another reason I'm considering it. I think it will teach DD about religion more tha. E can at home. We don't practice and I am embarrassed to say I don't know much about it all. Are there any extremist views or values that are taught though? Like that gay people are bad or abortion is bad etc?

I haven't met him yet, my Dr. Will be Dr. Singh at the General. I have my first appt on June 11. I have heard he is a great surgeon and a great doctor. A family friend of ours is a L&D nurse there and she was happy to hear I was with Dr. Singh. Apparently he is one of the only doctors you actually see during your appointments.
Since you had previous sections at the general, were you able to have your babies in recovery wit you? Another WBer said both her DH and her Lo were with her the whole time, which is awesome. Was it like that for you?

Thanks! I did do some research between the catholic school and the public school in our zone. The catholic school had better results on the EQAO testing, the overall score for the school was much better (7.1/10), class sizes are smaller, they have uniforms (just blue pants and white tops) which I kind of like the idea of since you likely won't get as much ostrasization over clothes or have to spend tons of money etc. I think I really want DD to go to the catholic school, my only worry now is whether their numbers will be able to accommodate non Catholics andif DD can get in. She isn't baptized yet and I suppose we could baptize her catholic but I don't like tht idea. It seems like a big step and neither DH or I are catholic.

I'm being really proactive here. LOL I've been thinking about DD's education and what school she will go to for well over a year now. I'm currently thinking of a catholic school that's in our area. A friend of mine is enrolling her son there and she went to check it out and from what she has said along with my own research online, it sounds like a really good school with nice sized classes, etc. The only thing is, I don't know too much about catholic school. What is different? I know they teach religion but how much of the curriculum is religion based? What's the difference compared to a regular public school?
I know Catholic schools usually only enroll Catholic studends but this school gives first priority to catholic students and then if their numbers permit, they will open it up to non-catholic students.

OMG seriously?? That's awesome!! And DH was in there with you too?? Ok this is making me feel sooo much better about having to go with an OB this time since I'll be able to deliver at the General (for other reasons too). Last time, with DD, I was with a mw at the Montfort but ended up having a c-section. I was in recovery alone for like an hour and only got to see her for a quick picture before. I hated not being with her for that long.

I know they usually only enroll Catholic studends but this school apparently opens up first registration to catholic students and then will open it up to non-catholic students. I still have to call the school to confirm this but providing that is a non issue, we are really considering this school.

I hope everyone had a good weekend!! Mine was good. Took DD to the sugar bush on Saturday. It was cold there!!!! Found out my other grandmother is in the hospital...she's been falling lately and through that, has hit her head a few times so they sent her for a CT scan yesterday. Not sure what the results were at this point. I talked to her today though. She sounds ok...not like herself...she was talking like herself but her voice didnt' sound the same.
Today was a beautiful day!!!!!!! It was 24 degrees. Gorgeous! I got a mani/pedi, went to see my other grandma, cleaned up doggie poop from the backyard and spend most of the rest of the day outside too.
3 more sleeps till vacation time!!! lol

Have any Ottawa peeps gone here before? I'm thninking of taking my cat in. We usualy go to Alta vista but we had to take her in last week and $1100 later found out she has a bladder infection, which I'm sure isn't the problem. She isn't eating or drinking much, isn't therefore voiding too much and last week she was vomiting. she's also lost weight. we were given prescriptions from AVAH which we have been giving her for almost a week. She hasn't been sick to her tummy for a week, aside from an episode last night.
If anyone has any reviews, I'd love to hear them!

DD is still in her crib, which is now converted to a daybed. and she still sleeps on her crib mattress.
When should we be changing her to a normal mattress? She's not a big girl so I think for now it's still working fine, but when do you usually change them from the crib mattress? I know a lot of people just go ahead and convert their LO's cribs into the double beds (which we may do since we're switching her rooms but I am not in a rush, honestly), so that's a personal choice. But what I'm trying to find out is when they really should be changed (or if they even have to be - barring growing out of it of course). Is it ok for them physically to remain sleeping on this mattress?

Leitrim offers a seemingly grat summer program too. I wish I had my license! I could get it but DH is VERY nervous of me driving out there, which is in turn making me (an already nervous driver) nervous too.
I'm also with the Govt and I have always wanted to do Leave with Income Averaging when DD started schoool. I'mnot sure though if that would be allowed in my section. One of my co-workers does it (was supposed to be a condition of her employement) and for the last 2 years she's been given the run around. She's still waiting to hear if she can be off this summer. It's nuts. So I'm not sure how it would go over if I ask for it for next year.

We checked out Leitrim Montessori, and we really liked it but I think I have to turn it down. I forrgot that I currently only have my G1 an while I probably could get my G2 by then, I'm not a regular driver so I'm not sure how the drive would be. I'm currently trying to decid one on this myself. We've already looked at 1 Montessori preschool and I have an appointment to look at another one in April. WE loved the one we looked at but driving issues are preventing me from taking the spot (specifically that I dont drive!). But beyond that, I am trying to decide whether or not I want her to stay for kingdergarten or not. I thought it was strongly advised though, so all those of you who are pulling your kids for JK, are the Casa schools already aware of this? I know they will get the most out of a 3 year program but did any of the schools know when you registered that your LOs wouldn't be staying the 3 years?
Hockey_Chick (and other Ottwa moms) I'd love to know where you are sending your kids for Montessori.

It is a good idea, however, I don't think it would work. DD wouldn't be 'natural' if I was there (she probably would be attached to my hip) and I worry that our DHPs might be natural either, knowig someone is there observing.
Also, I thought about it again, and I'm going to have to tell her that we're going to check this place out on Monday.. DD will go back there and say something about looking at a school or seeing her friend who used to be in the same daycare. I don't want them finding out that way so I'm going to just send a FB message and let her now we'll be late, we're going to check out a Montessori school. She didn't "ask" the parents about her schooling choices for her kids, so why should I feel badly or have to hide this? Especially since we haven't made any decisions yet. I've talked to DD about it and she says "No, I want to stay at x's house". so we have to see how she takes to the place too!

Thanks ladies! I think you're right. I'll tell her we have an appointment and after we go in and see this place, I will go from there and then say something. If we decide to enroll DD then I can talk to her I guess, or if we're wavering on it, then maybe I'll talk to her.
I know that things won't change and I don't expect that they will (I am in fact right with my instincts), I think I just want confirmation that I am right, and this would therefore be the best thing for DD. I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. the thought of pulling her from this daycare really upsets me. I just wish it was run the same way as it was when DD first started going there.

I think it's because I want her to tell me that my assumptions are wrong. I want to make sure of what's really going on there, I don't want to just assume if it's coming down to me pulling DD out. I would still go to the interview, but it would give me something to think abotu and that way I could make a fully educated decision. Since it's a preschool and she knews I was looking for alternatives to public school, I don't know that she would be mad or anything. Plus even if we go to the interview, it doesn't mean for sure we are going to accept a spot. I see what you're saying and if this was an interview for a daycare centre, then no I wouldn't tell her, but since it's a preschool and therefore al alternative to jk and Sk as well. I'm not pulling her because of what's happening there (as far as she would know). My approach would be more of "Help me decide, how much can you/are you focusing on teaching the daycare kids" etc. I'd really be seeking advice from her, not really having a confrontation of sany sort. Plus, she's been supportive in the past of things I've considered as potential career options that would have involved me keeping DD at home.. so I don't nkow that she would be mad.. She might be sad to lose DD, but I don't think she'd be mad and treat her any differently. It's not like she hasn't lost kids in the past and some still return for Saturday care.

Dh and I have an interview with a PReschool for DD on MOnday morning. I'm really h appy about this but at the same time I'm nervous.
Some of you are ware of the ongoing issues I've been concerned about (regarding stimulation for DD mainly) with our currentl dayhome. DD has been with them since she was 1 and a lot of changes have been made within that time, namely our DHP is now homeschooling her kids and her DH is home to "help" with the daycare. I feel that he is actually the one overseeing the daycare mainly, while she is busy with homeschooling.
I ask DD wha thse does during the days she says nothing (this week, twiece she has said "I just walked around like this" and proceeded to walk in a circle). From what I get out of DD, there's no circle time anymore, I haven't had any crafts come home since Christmas and she's talking about movies she's watched over there too. she was also supposed to start going into the schoool room every Monday morning, which seemingly has happened once. I've talked to our DHP about providing more information as to what they are doing, and keeping the communication open and letting me know what they are doing etc. They used to have newsletters which were sent out quarterly, but again, that's stopped too.
Anyways, I've been really concerned and I've started looking at centres and preschools. The previous talk I had with DHP didn't seem to really go anywhere since after atht week, I've had no further information or communications about what they are doingso I thought I better see what else was out there. I've been really excited about this preschoool and it can actually take DD right through Kindergarted (it's a Montessori preschool so she would start in the public school at grade 1).
Anyhoo, bottom line is, I want to let our DHP know that we have this interveiw on Monday morning, firstly because well DD won't be there until almost 10:30 so I have to advise her of that and then as well because IF eel like this might give me a good opportunity to talk candidly about my concerns and about what they are doing on a daily basis at the daycare. I feel like the preschool isn't a threat to her since it's a ppreschool, not another daycare. Also one of her past daycare kids, that DD was actually ni there with, left to go to this preschool last year.
So my question is, how opuld you go about bringing this up and when? I'mdebating on asking if she has any plans tomorrow AM and maybe we could get together ebcause at pickup, it's too crazy and they usually go to her inlaws for dinner Friday nights anyways and the kids are already dressed and ready to go. I could do it over email, but I find that really impersonal and I don't want tere to be any questions as to the tone of anything (on either of our parts). I guess I could sugest just talking on the phone too?
Any suggestions??
ETA sorry for the grammar or spelling errors, I wrote this super fast and without even looking!!

Thanks for the ideas everyone!!
I hate useless items "just for". We do want to get her a bike though so that could be an idea.
I usually get those plastic eggs and do an egg hunt, but every year DD contines to play with them afterwards, they are kicking around the house, they break, they get lost, etc. and it's frustrating. LOL This year, I've decided to buy some painted wooden eggs from Etsy and I will hide those around. This way she can keep them for pretend play.
http://www.etsy.com/listing/62282559/woo..._facet=handmade I also saw a cute rag doll on Etsy. DD saw it as I was looking at it and said she wanted it. They can be customized according to your childs features and she will even stitch their name on the back. I think it's really cute!
http://www.etsy.com/listing/90746207/custom-cloth-waldorf-doll-personalizedI usually get her a couple of books as well and maybe I'll get her a puzzle and some outdoor items like bubbles, sidewalk chalk and sandbox toys.

So far, I'm going to get her some wooden eggs from Etsy for her easter egg hunt and a rag doll from Etsy as well. We also might get her a big girl bike (she has been asking and since her bday is in January, we tend to use Easter as a reason to ger her spring/summer outdoor items).
Please share your ideas!

Greenmeansgo- Sorry DH is being difficult. That really sucks when they aren't on board when we are. I hope that he recharges and is raring to go again this week!
Heregoes - I'm so glad that AF seems to have come and gone. Have fun waiting for O

I hear you on the age gap! The gap is getting further apart for us and it's really bugging me! I do hope to stay off longer than my mat leave with #2 though!
Round2.0- YAY that things seem to have gone back to normal fairly quickly post m/c. Hopefully you can start again soon and your journey won't be a long one.

Hi ladies, Mommyto1: Thanks for starting us off! Thank you all for your support. I know it's been a really hard month for us all....
Hi ladies,
Mommyto1: Thanks for starting us off!
Thank you all for your support. I know it's been a really hard month for us all. I am a little down tonight. Oddly, I was on cloud 9 all day for some reason, despite the BFN and AF. Perhaps the sun and spring like day helped! I also know I'm very lucky to have such a great DD and a DH whose job provides us with choices in life. The thought of our life overall today just had me very happy. I was also thinking of the benefits of just having DD, which I am always aware of.
I think as I'm preparing to go back to work tomorrow after being off with DD for a week (she was sick), I'm really going to miss her. It reinforced to me that I really am a much better mother when I'm at home. My mothering skills and my patience etc. completely deteriorate when I'm working. I always thought I'd be one of those women who would much prefer to be working but it seems I'm not. I do really enjoy my job, but it just makes me realize even more that kids are only young once. My single biggest regret in life was not taking extended leave after my mat leave. I agonized over that decision for weeks but alas, I returned to work, which I shouldn't have done. Work will always be there (in some form or another) but your kids are only young for a very short time.
DD and I got our bond back this week and I love it. I felt like did when I was on mat leave. I enjoyed every cuddle, I enjoyed playing with her, I didn't snap at her(ok rarely), I didn't rush through bedtime. I genuinely enjoyed it all. I was researching (and subsequently ordered) some Montessori materials and was so hoping they would come before I returned to work this week so I could enjoy them with her. I know I still will work with her on them but it's so much easier when I'm home. I enjoy being a mother more. My single biggest regret in life is that i didn't stay home longer with DD. And I can't get that back.

I was starting to enjoy the thought of being on mat leave again.
I'm having a rough night. I'm sad that AF came, I'm sad to be returning to work and being away from DD. I'm confused.. I like our lifestyle and you all know how I've struggled with the thought of #2 but I feel like today, I am feeling the desire for one more. I want to be a mother again, I want to have a baby again, I want to give DD a sibling....maybe it's temporary, I don't know. Because the flip side is that I also want to provide her with the very best of everything.
For whoever it was that asked about the Montessori preschool, we couldn't make it to the info night afterall because DD ended up going downhill and that particular day was her worst day a week in terms of illness. They told me to call this week and check in which is exactly what I am going to do. I might see what happens with the preschool and maybe then it will make some things clearer.
I'm SOOO sorry for this long post all about me!! I'm just having an emotional night and DH is out playing poker, so I guess I turned to WB (you ladies) as my replacement DH. LOL
Phun and Mommyto1: Good luck this month!! Good luck with SMEP and your pap, Phun and I'm glad that you're going int this month so much more laid back, Mommyto1.

It's now very clear she is completely unfeeling and selfish!! She didn't give a rats @ss about what she did to Jordan! Understand things from her point of view????? ANd then telling him HE'S the one who is walking out. Grow the eff up!!! She is totally manipulative and twisted. She needs her head examined. She will never have a healthy relationship.
As for Jo, I would bet money that this was a plan of his. He was just way to casual and non chalant about the fact he's just "livin life" and he doesn't want to be tied down. This was a total move to either get Jordan out of her life or to just get even with Kail.

I actually just checked out Kid Advance and for what I ordered, it was $3 cheaper there than through IFIT. Gah! Next time I might try them. How long did it take you to receive your materials? I am ashamed to say I bought the sandpaper letters, which is probably one of the easiest things to make. LOL
What type of items do you get from the regular store(and which store)?

Montessori Materials?
Wow, what a great list! Thank you!!! If you get a chance to check with her that would be great, but if not, no worries....

I was just wondering if anyone has ordered any montessori materials and if so, from where. I ordered a couple of items for DD online (IFIT) and I was curious to see if there are any other places out there with reasonable prices.
Thanks

We've taken DD to Chiquicits twice. Once was for her first haircut..they gave us a certificate and a box with a lock of her hair. I think their prices for first hair cuts are quite reasonably priced too, at least they used to be. We took her again about a month ago. The girl made her bangs a little crooked but they have a cute set up and she even put "fairy dust" in DD's hair when she was done. I'd go back. I can't comment on Goobers though as I've never been. Good luck!

I am supposed to hear from a Montessori Preschool tomorrow to see if we can attend an info session Thursday night. I know that sounds fairly trivial, but they are limiting the spaces of the info night to ensure they don't have more parents attending than they have spaces for, so I think that if you attend the info session, there is a spot available for your child. It's our first step that could possibly end in DD being enrolled in what seems like a great preschool!! I'm SO excited about it. This is what I've been wanting for her. Most of you know of my concerns regarding our Dayhome and this school reminded me why I enrolled dd in her current dayhome (the DHP is montessori certified and did amazing things with the kids before she started homeschooling) and it reminded me how much I want this for DD. I'm excited but nervous in case we don't get a spot, so any good luck would be appreciated!!
Thanks ladies.
