Hi ladies,
Well we're back from our honeymoon! We had the most amazing time in Turkey. I would highly recommend it! So much to see and do and the beaches were beautiful!
Here are a few wedding teasers:

Love this first look photo. So much emotion captured!

Yikes they're soo big! Sorry! I don't know how to make them smaller.

You look gorgeous, Browntown!
We are also married!!! The day couldn't have been more perfect! The weather was sunny but not too warm and everything looked beautiful. It took a long time to set up and decorate, but it was SO worth it. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm actually sad it's over. It was so nice having so many people who mean a lot to us all together to celebrate our marriage! We basically threw a huge party, which is exactly what we wanted. You know it's a good party when 5 of your guy friends go skinny dipping at the end of the night! Haha! I'll try to upload a photo soon, we are leaving for our honeymoon tomorrow...

Hi ladies! Wow, could time slow down just a little?! Only 17 more days to go!
I had my dress fitting on Saturday! It needs quite a lot of alterations, and I go back on August 24th! I'm sure it will be perfect then. My bridesmaid's alterations will be finished then too.
We are trying to write a thank you speech right now. And I still have to write the list of family photos we'd like for our photographer. Other than that, we're pretty well organized I think. We just can't forget anything at home since our wedding is out of town.
I still haven't got gifts for my parents. I'm thinking we'll make them a photo book of wedding photos afterwards. Do you girls think that's a total cop out?

I recently had a horrible experience with this bridal shop in North Vancouver. Just thought I'd pass along my review for others. BEWARE! If you want more details, please PM me

I chose my wedding dress from Isabelle's in early December 2011. Although I knew it was THE dress, I felt a bit put on the spot as they offered me 20% off if I bought it that day. I put down my 50% deposit and was told it would be here in June-July.
Fast forward almost 8 months... and my dress finally arrived (end of July 2012)! I chose not to get my alterations done at Isabelle's as I didn't really enjoy my shopping experience there. I took my dress to a different place, where the salesperson couldn't believe that my dress had taken so long to arrive. Until they saw that I had bought it at Isabelle's... the salesperson explained to me that Isabelle's actually holds your money to pay off other dresses, then orders your dress at a later date. At first I didn't believe this person... until I saw on the tag that my dress wasn't ordered until middle of MAY 2012?!? Totally unacceptable. So now my wedding is 3 weeks away and it is a huge rush to get alterations done on it, when in reality it could have been here in March or April. I can't believe I gave this business my money. I'm surprised they're still in business actually...
If only I had known...

browntown-I PM'd you. Thanks

If anybody is having an outdoor wedding, how are you decorating the aisle? I wanted to do something super simple. We are using white wooden fold out chairs. Our photographer suggested stringing a ribbon or something down the edges of the aisle to stop guests from walking into the aisle to see better/take photos, as it interferes with his photos. I like owe poofy flower things that are hung off the seat, but I don't even know where to begin with those. Any suggestions?
We are still working on music suggestions. We are leaning towards Sail Away by David Gray for our first dance...

Hi ladies, I've been reading along too but haven't had much time to write an update! Last week I had my first wedding disaster, my bridesmaids dresses came in and they weren't the colour I was expecting

I was considering ordering new dresses from J. Crew but have warmed up to these ones now. I love the style, they're just more of a wine coloured purple than a deep purple. We will make it work though!
Many guests who initially didn't think would be able to make it are now coming, so I think we'll have close to 100! My dress should be in the first week of August so I've booked a dress fitting for me and my bridesmaids. I picked out some earrings today and I don't think I'll wear any other jewelry.
I'm kind of torn on what to get my bridesmaids as a gift. We paid for their dresses so they think that's enough, but I'd like to get them something else as well. I also don't know what to get my parents and my inlaws! Any suggestions??
Also, one more question, how did you girls figure out your timeline for your reception? I don't know where to begin with when we should do speeches etc. anyone want to share? Thanks!

Meechie-I LOVE David Gray! I've seen him in concert twice. What song is your first dance song? We're still looking for one. That totally sucks about not being able to include your son in the ceremony. It seems really unfair. Good for you or walking out rather than saying something you regret. I hope you're able to come to some sort of compromise. It is hard to feel like you are really compromising right from the start. Keep us updated!
DayDreamer-congrats on finding the condo! Can't wait to see photos of your dress!
AFM-this weekend we finished decorating the jam jars for our favours and have almost finished the programs. We're doing a cute fan-type thing. I really like it. Our wedding bands came in and we both love them! I can't wait to wear mine. I'll have to wait awhile since we won't be taking them with us to Turkey! Still gotta think about table numbers. I bought some cheap frames from Michael's. Still waiting for my bridesmaid dresses and my dress won't be in until the end of July! Eek!

Wow! You girls have been chatty!
Meechie-Your dress looks great! That's so exciting that it's in! I went to try on the sample of my dress the other day and they said my dress would be in in July or beginning of August. Seems to far away

Your place looks great! I hope it sells fast! Also that's really sweet that your co-workers organized a surprise shower for you!
honeypie-We ordered through Tip Top Tailors, but I think it's the same thing as Freeman, as the catalog was the same. They had the actual tux in the window so although my fiance couldn't try the actual tux, we got to see it in person.
Lysh-I had my first bridal shower this weekend too! We got soo spoiled and we don't really have anywhere to put the new stuff right now! Good for you for already getting the thank you cards done. I'm going to try to do them today and tomorrow. That is tough with your bridesmaid who doesn't seem as interested. Maybe it's because she's out of town and feeling out of the loop?
browntown-I think getting your invites out by next week is totally OK! Especially if you sent save the dates. We didn't send STD's and we're having an out-of-town wedding, so I was really hoping to get them sent out for the 3 month mark. But looks like it's more like 2.5 months. I thought 2 months was usually would you did for an in-town wedding.
Jules-I would suggest Etsy for a cake topper too. I've seen some super cute ones on there. That's exciting your bridesmaid dresses are in transit! Did you order them to the States? I think we ordered ours around the same time, so hopefully mine will be here soon too! My bridesmaids picked silver flat sandals for them to wear. They're pretty neutral and I think they'll wear them again. I'll try to post a link:
http://www.stevemadden.com/Item.aspx?id=61717&np=707_855Auntieli-Your engagement photos are gorgeous! Love the places you got the photos taken too! We didn't so engagement photos but I'm kinda regretting it after seeing yours!
WoodsyGal-That's exciting that your bridesmaid dresses are in! I really like that veil you posted. You're right - more of a modern flirty look. I think it's common for your bridal look to change and everything starts to come together, because then you can really picture how everything will look!
AFM-I sent out our invites on Monday and guests have started receiving them! So exciting. They turned out really nicely, not bad for a groupon! I tried on the sample dress of my dress last week to show my sister and to make a decision on a veil. I'm really torn on a veil but I just feel it's not "me", so I think I'm going to pass. I hope I don't regret my decision! I found a cute headband to wear that adds a little bling too.
I'm trying to start thinking about details like table numbers, escort cards etc. We have decided to have homemade jam as our favours and my fiance's grandma is kindly making it for us. I bought some cute fabric to decorate the top of the jam jars.
I still feel like I have a lot of time but I know I don't...

Hi browntown! I feel the same! Like I'm only now starting to put my ideas into concrete plans. I just ordered a white mailbox for our card box, decided on favours (homemade grape jelly), and ordered a really cute wooden sign off Etsy that says 'I do' and 'We did' with arrows pointing toward the ceremony and reception areas. Still waiting on my invitations, feling a bit panicked about getting them out (didn't send out STD's)... hoping they come tomorrow! The envelopes are already addressed and I even put the stamps on the envelopes too...

Hi ladies,
Well our invitations are done printing and are finally on their way here! Here is a copy of our proof: (this is my first time adding a photo so I hope it works!)
In other exciting news, we picked out and put a deposit on our wedding bands! I ended up going with what I initially wanted, a sapphire and diamond band. I will wear the band on it's own a lot (can't wear my engagement ring to work) so I wanted something that looked really good on it's own. I forgot to take a photo before we left the store (so mad at myself!) so I'll have to wait till it comes in to take a photo!
We're still debating about favours. I think I've sold my fiance on making grape jelly. I found some 125mL mason jars at walmart today for $7.63/12, so I'm leaning towards those.
Browntown I'd love to see the video tour of your new place!
How was everyone's long weekend? Meechie it sounds like you had fun biking! And browntown I hope your lips are better. Ouch! Unfortunately I worked all weekend. Boo to shift work!
K crossing my fingers that the invitation proof works...

Hi ladies! Remember me? I've been reading along but haven't had much time to post. This thread moves really fast, so it's hard to keep up! Plus I hate trying to type on my iPad, so I have to wait until I can use FH's computer. I'll try to do S/O's!
browntown-love the invitations! They're gorgeous! The colours are great and I love the design. How is your new place?! Are you sleeping there now? We moved into our townhouse 2 years ago and we've been renoing it ever since (while living here). We're almost done and I can't wait! I have had enough of the mess.
DayDreamer-so exciting that your dress is in! Another one who can't wait to see photos! Congrats on the awesome luggage sale. When are you thinking of taking your honeymoon? Are you debating between right after the wedding or later?
Meechie-love your engagement photos! They look great! How did your food tasting go? Also, I love the "advice rock" idea. We are writing guest's names on rocks as place cards, and we were thinking of doing advice rocks for the guestbook. Not sure yet though.
twosams-Welcome! It sounds like you've got a good start on things, I wouldn't worry about having tons left to do! You will get it all done. Feel free to post photos if you have any, we love photos

Jules-I've never heard of this "rule" either! I totally understand you wanting to be there to see what the tuxs look like. I just went with my fiance to look at tuxes (we already had one in mind that we liked), he tried it on, then he told his guys that that's the one they're getting! So all the guys went individually to get their measurements done (2 of them live in Calgary, 1 lives here). I think it's totaslly fine for you to go to "approve" their decision. I mean, you have to like them! I haven't really thought about bridesmaid gifts. We are paying for their dresses so that's definitely part of their gifts. I'm thinking jewellery or something but I'll talk to them and see what they're thinking. Do you have any ideas for the guestbook? I saw one on Etsy that I loved. It was a puzzle that everyone could sign! It's really expensive though, and I'm thinking, will people take the time to sign it? Congrats on getting your invites out! Ours have shipped so I think they should be here next week. Hopefully we can get them addressed and out quickly. Are you going over to the Island again before your wedding? We're heading over the first weekend of June to meet with a few people!
Hmm, what's new in the wedding planning department. Well I ordered a bunch of paper lanterns, and they look great! My fiance devised a way to light them for super cheap with LED lights, so I think they will look really good. I ordered a little ring dish off Etsy. We're not having a ring bearer but I think it will look nice for photos and I guess it will sit at the front during our ceremony! We have started looking at wedding rings but haven't made a final decision yet. I'm starting to think about wedding jewellery, I'm thinking a bracelet and earrings but no necklace... still on the hunt for a cheap-ish veil...
Anybody have plans for the long weekend??

The Capilano suspension bridge doesn't require any hiking. When you get to the other side of it, there are some trails you can walk on but you don't have to.
I'd say the best thing to do in Vancouver is walk/bike the sea wall. I know you're pregnant but it is soo pretty and totally flat. Biking takes less than an hour, and not strenuous at all. Walking takes about 3 hours (walking slowly).
You could take the gondola up Grouse Mountain (right near Capilano Suspension Bridge). The aquarium is really nice. You could go out to Steveston for delicious fish and chips. Whistler is really nice - you could walk around the village (shopping) and take the Peak-to-Peak gondola.
Let me know if you have any specific questions...

I'm the oldest of 3. I'm really close with my middle sister, but not my youngest (personality differences). I didn't really like growing up with 3 kids in the family, I felt like there was always someone left out. Always 2 against 1.
I would love 4 kids but my fianc only wants two. So we will see. If money (and space) were no object I'd like 6! My Mum is one of six and her and her siblings are all super close. Her Dad died very young though (youngest child was 9) so I imagine that has something to do with it too.

Auntieli- I'm having trouble with the veil decision too. I can't really see me wearing one, but my sister (who I'm really close with) is desperate for me to wear a veil. If I was to wear one, it would only be for the ceremony. I have this idea of wearing a jeweled headband with a veil for the ceremony then I'll take the veil off for the reception and leave the jeweled headband in. But same thing as you, it's not really me and it would cover up the back of the dress. I'm looking for a used one (if I could get one for cheap that might sway my decision). What to do....
Jules- you're inspiring me with your running! I've never been a runner but I'd like I be. My mum wasn't a runner then decided she really wanted to, and now she's a fantastic runner. I will shred with you!!! Although I'll be a few days behind you. Maybe we can keep each other accountable. Your veil is really pretty

Jules- we totally should have done the sun run! I've actually never done it before. Have you? Are you going over to the Island again before your wedding? We haven't been over there since just after we got engaged. We're gonna have to go over at some point to meet the florist, probably go to the party rental place again etc.
Meechie- congrats on finding a venue so quickly! I hope it works out for you. Keep us posted!
Browntown- yes I'm getting a bit of sticker shock! I just can't believe how much we are spending on one day to make it "official". Seems kinds ridiculous to me! We aren't even having an extravagant wedding. So far I think we are on budget. But I don't know for sure! We are keeping track of the big things but I think the little things often get missed. For example, I bought some baskets at Homesense on the weekend (for bathroom baskets to put a tide pen, hair elastics, gum etc) in and I realize that I'm not really accounting for things like that!
LDBride- welcome! How is wedding planning going? Where are you in the planning department?
Lysh- congrats on trying on your dress again! I can't wait for mine to come in! Please post a photo!
AFM- I spoke to a florist today who was recommended by another bride. She was really nice on the phone. I emailed her a photo of a bouquet that I really liked. I don't think she'll do the exact same flowers ($$$) but at least it gives her an idea. I'm waiting on a quote from her, I hope it's not too expensive! Especially once you add in corsages, boutonnaires etc. Hoping to look at wedding bands next weekend...

We are just finalizing our timing so we can order the invitations. We are thinking 4pm ceremony, then a cocktail hour (champagne and appies) from 4:30-5:30, with the reception starting at 5:30pm. I don't know why I'm finding the timing so hard to figure out... I guess I want to make sure we don't fall behind and that it all runs smoothly.

Auntieli- thanks for the idea about honey as favours. I think that's a really cute idea and I actually saw one I really liked on pinterest. We haven't been able to make a decision either way yet. We should soon!

Jules, Meechie, Browntown - hi!
AFM-I finally ordered my bridesmaid dresses this weekend! I ordered them from ebridalsuperstore.com to a friends house in the States, so I hope everything works out. We are still working on our timeline (i'm thinking 4pm ceremony, then family photos, appies/champagne, then 5:30pm reception) so we can order our invites. Are you girls wearing a veil? I'm still debating this.
Hope everyone had a good Easter!

I would pick one country rather than two... Like another poster said, I like both sightseeing and relaxation. I'd rather see one place in depth than barely hitting the highlights of two.
