But Bill 78 is disgustingly anti-democratic and I could certainly see myself picking up my pots and pans and marching with Les casseroles, if I was still living in Montreal.

You cannot earn any extra income during the maternity part of your leave -- the first 17 weeks.
The last 35 weeks, which is the parental part of your leave, allows you to earn a certain % of your income without being penalized. I would call EI and find out how much exactly you can earn without it affecting your EI. I did this with my youngest and they helped me figure out the exact amount I could be earning.

It's kind of ironic though that today is World Book and Copyright Day.

I work in publishing and see how it isn't the publishers getting the shaft with ebook pirating but the authors. Otherwise, my opinion is quite strong on the subject and pirated movies, music and ebooks all fall into the same category.

If I understand correctly, pretty much all fresh produce because it all depends on where it was grown, how long ago, etc. Dried fruit is fine.
Most meats are out but fish and and shellfish is usually OK.
Raw eggs are out but if they're cooked (hard boiled) for personal consumption I think you're OK.
For cheese, it all depends on the cheese. I don't know the hard and fast rules but I know hard cheeses are fine, soft cheeses are hit and miss.
Nuts are OK.
Bread, crackers and pasta are OK.
Pretty much everything pre-packaged is normally fine!
(or you can just read the list MrsG posted haha!)

I didn't have an OAL and the milk always squirted out, but when the membranes on my pump started getting worn out, I found the suction just wasn't there to extra the milk as fully as it would when they were new. But since you've checked that, obviously it must be something else.
When you hand express does the milk squirt? Or does it drip too? If it squirts, my guess is the pump.

I also freeze other liquids like buttermilk in muffin tins. Very useful!
When I open a can of tomato paste and only need a couple of tablespoons, I freeze the rest. I cover a cookie sheet in wax paper and dole the paste out in 1 tbsp blobs then freeze. Once it's all frozen I transfer the discs of tomato paste into a ziplock bag.
Our local market sells fresh herbs for ridiculously cheap, but they're in massive quantities. I chop up the herbs and then freeze in an airtight container or baggie. That way I almost always have fresh herbs on hand.
I'm horrible at eyeballing how much pasta to make for a meal. If I've cooked too much, I freeze it (again in baggies).

Thanks! I just wasn't sure if I'd be making a huge preschooler etiquette faux-pas!

I know the parents of this particular kiddo know he and Mr T are close. We ran into the father and the kids at the ice-cream shop last night (don't ask me WHY i didn't say anything. Wasn't thinking I guess!) and he knew exactly who my kid was and even apologized for not sticking around and chatting so I think it should go over pretty well.
Spin-off question: Friend's twin sister is also in T's class. Should I be inviting her too? Or are they at an age now where them having separate friends is acceptable?

I'm still quite new at this whole school friends etiquette!
ODS has a very good friend at school (Kindergarten teacher kindly refers to them as partners in crime.) ODS has been asking about having friend over to play but I have no way of getting in touch with friend's parents. We've met the family a few times in the neighborhood but I've never remembered to mention anything.
Does sending a note addressed to "Friend's Mom" and asking the teacher to pop it in his back sound weird? I'd just send my contact info and mention getting the boys together to play, at our place, or the park. Whatever she's comfortable with.
I'm just unsure if this will come off as totally weird or if it's the normal thing to do!

While we looked into the local Preschool coop, as working parents we were unable to fulfill the cooperative requirements. They were pretty involved, too: Duty days were 1 morning (8:45-12:00) every 2 to 3 weeks. Every third duty day you were also snack parent and had to provide snack for the whole class (24 kids) Also had to pay for annual medical clearance and police check in order to do duty days. Additionally, all parents are expected to take on a volunteer job within the presechool (from president to social committee to Scholastic Book order person).
Like freckle-lee, I've also born witness to many a mommy-dramas unfold at the cooperative school! It's just not my thing.

My eldest is 4.5 years old and cannot swim unassisted yet. He's been in swimming lessons for a full year now but I don't expect him to learn for a while yet but I think that could be somewhat attributable to his hemiplegia.

Quiche and frittatas are well eaten at our house. I have an excellent apple-cheddar frittata recipe if you'd like.
I know you don't have much success with the slow cooker, but I often make soups, chilis and stews in it and I don't have to worry about things overcooking or being too soupy. There's always tons of leftovers with meals like that.
Pasta is always fast. You can premake your sauces on the weekend and make larger batches to freeze.
Soups with garlic cheese toast are a regular go-to in our house. Potato, carrot, sweet potato soups are so easy to make. You just chop up your veg (which I'll often to ahead of time) and cook it in broth, and seasoning and when the veggies are cooked through, puree with an immersion blender or in your blender.
I have to get to work but these are few off the top of my head.

I think the lesser of all the evils is to be keeping the two older ones in their current daycare and finding alternate care for bb.
1) You`re finally pleased with your current childcare situation and I know your childcare background. I'd stick with something good.
2) Because you're satisfied with the current arrangements, you know that you'll be happy with it when #3 hits 18 months and goes to the same daycare as his siblings.
3) Let's say you stay home until 12 months (totally hypothetical, obviously) then you're only looking for alternate care for 6 months. While in the short term, 6 months seems like a very long time, it isn't much in the grand scheme of things.
While logistically, doing two different daycare drop-offs seems like a nightmare, I don't think it would be that bad. On days when J is there you could theoretically split it up and both take care of drop-offs and on the few days where he's out of town, you'll just have to get up earlier, leave slightly earlier and manage the two drop-offs. It sucks, but for 6 months I think it's totally do-able.
You could look at nanny-sharing or a homecare arrangement for baby in the meantime. They both occasionally offer slightly more flexible options.

Pertussis would clear up during the day, the symptoms would persist and the whoop is really heard on the inhale, but not on the coughing itself.
