Mum said my lemon twist broke. Is it weird that I'd totally love to have one as an adult?
Did anyone else have the Barbie head with the curlers and the make-up?
I always wanted the Play Doh barbershop but my mum hated Play Doh (too messy and stinky).

DH cooks more during the week than I do since he gets home first. We usually make simple stuff on week nights like tacos, grilled chicken or pasta. On really busy nights we'll make grilled cheese or a frozen pizza. On DH's practice night, I'll get take-out for myself or will have cereal or a sandwich.
We were running late tonight, so dinner was pot pies from the Save-On Foods deli.

I work at a law firm and we get spoiled. This year, we got bagels and cream cheese for breakfast and a chocolate fountain with tons of fruit, cream puffs, pretzels, etc. for dipping at lunch.
We received $50 Visa gift cards from the partners and there were prize draws all day (Keurigs, crock pots, Swarovski necklaces, wine, gift cards). I didn't win any of the draws this year but I won a couple bottles of wine last year.

You're welcome, Mrs Elle. I hate doing dishes more than anything. Mine was a gift from my parents years ago and I'd never heard of one before either. Danby has 2 models, one holds 4 place settings and one holds 6. If there's only two of you and the baby to be, it should suit your needs. I found it works best with liquid dishwasher detergent.
Ignore the 2 bad reviews on the website, sounds to me like they didn't read the instructions properly and didn't level the dishwasher before using it. DUH.

Our condo has a much smaller kitchen than that. I'd put some sort of cabinet or moveable island under the pass-through and a sideboard in the dining area.
If the lack of a dishwasher is a big deal to you, I had a
Danby counter-top dishwasher in my old rental. I kept it on a the second shelf of a rolling island. We gave it to our friends when I moved in with DH and they say it's the best gift anyone ever gave them.

Our other friends friends have the
portable GE dishwasher. It's pretty compact but works really well.

I have 3 older sisters. I had two older brothers as well but they have both passed away.
My oldest sister is old enough to be my mum. We do not get along at all. Never have. Unlike my other sisters, I'm unwilling to put up with her crap. She lives 10 minutes from me and I haven't seen her since Christmas and likely won't see her until the next family function. I am close with her two grown kids though and their little ones.
The second oldest is 15 years older than me and lives far away. I only see her couple times a year but we do talk sometimes and FB chat every couple of weeks. I'm not particularly close with her kids either, but I get along well with her older son's wife and their kids.
My other sister and I are 7 years apart but we're best friends. We talk several times a week and see each other as much we can. She also has a lot in common with DH, so they're great friends too. They like a lot of the same music, so they see bands that I don't like together - works for me!
DH's little brother is a self-centred jerk, but a lovable one. He lives in the US, so we don't see him often. I probably get along better/have more in common with him than DH does. Neither of us can stand BIL's wife though, she's a complete cow.

There are a couple ex-BF's that I wish would fall into a deep, dark hole but I'm still on good terms with the rest. I'm now out of touch with one ex, which makes me sad because we were a big part of each other's lives for so long.
DH's ex-wife still calls on birthdays and Christmas. I like her but her calling seems to bug DH.

For me, I wouldn't want to see him that way. I've viewed the bodies of all my closest relatives who have passed (Dad, grandmother, brother, BIL) and I really wish I hadn't.
When I close my eyes and think of my dad now, often the first image that comes into my mind is saying goodbye to him in the hospital after he died. That shell of a person was not who he was and I wish I could have that image erased from my brain.
If you really think you need to see him for closure, do it. If not, I wouldn't.
I'm very sorry for you loss.

When I was little, I shared a room with my big sister. I remember being in my crib, dragging my bottle along the rungs, making a xylophone noise, then cranking the bottle by the nipple and launching it at my sister. I would have been around 18 months. My sister confirms I did this (often). I was a rotten kid. LOL
I also remember when my nephew was born when I was 4 (my oldest sister is old enough to be my mother). Most of my childhood memories involve him, as we were always together because our grandma looked after us while our mums worked.
One of my favourite memories is of my grandma's car breaking down on the way home from dropping my mum off at work at 6 a.m. I remember my grandma carrying my nephew and holding my hand and walking us to the gas station. She was wearing huge, furry, hot pink slippers. She never left home without proper footwear again.

My DH has nice skin, so I stole his moisturizer. It's called Dormer 21. It has hylauronic acid in it which seems to be evening out my skin tone and helping with the flakies. I think the other thing that's bugging me is that our last lunch was supposed to be just the two of us. She brought her kids and her FH's grown son. She paid for all their lunches and still didn't pay me back. Even the two grown kids were like WTH?
Yeah, I think I'm just going to forget about the money and tell her we're done. All of our other mutual friends have written her off long ago.

Thanks for replying, BAC. The whole thing just makes me sad and I have a really hard time giving up on people.
I guess I'm just lonely too, as our best couple friends moved away recently and my other best friend and her DH moved to the States. I talk to her every week but it's not the same. I find Vancouver very clique-y and a hard place to make new friends. Work is going badly too, so life just kind of sucks in general right now. The situation with my friend is just kind of crappy icing on an equally crappy cake.
OK, that's enough woe is me for one day.

Thought I'd give everyone something else to focus on today. Not sure if this should go in Relationship Rescue since it's about a friendship. Mods, please let me know if this thread should be moved.
OK, here's the story. I'm not the type of person who has a lot of friends. I have a few, very close friends. This is about my high-school BFF, who I've known since I was 15. She's had a tough life/lousy family situation as long as I've known her (lousy as in her dad is a convicted murderer), is a single mom of 2 kids, and has been on government assistance for most of the past 12 years due to a workplace accident that has left her partially disabled.
DH and I have helped her out over the years, babysitting, buying food when she's short, giving her small loans and even just straight up giving her money when we can. She's always paid the loans back when promised, until this last one. I bought new duvets for her and her younger daughter on Boxing Day. She promised she'd pay me back when she got her next assistance cheque. It's now mid-March, she's promised me the money several times, only to cancel on me. I'd just tell her to keep it but things are tight for us right now due to some unexpected expenses and paying an assessment on our condo.
The other part of the story is that she's committing welfare fraud. She is allowed to have a part-time job but the job she has is under the table (she's working at a pub). I've tried to be OK with this for her daughter's sake but it just isn't sitting right with me.
She's also recently moved herself and her 5 y.o. daughter in with a guy she met at the pub a couple of months ago and they've just gotten engaged. He's older and owns his own business. He's been paying her bills and buying expensive things for her and her daughter. She's told welfare that he's just her room-mate and is still collecting assistance and working at the pub for cash. We met up for lunch the other day, supposedly for her to pay me back, which she didn't. She says she doesn't want to ask him for the money to pay me back. It's OK to ask him to buy new bedroom furniture for her daughter and a car, new clothes and a $650 cell phone for her though.
She promised to pay me today, out of her pub earnings from last night, but hasn't shown up.
With things being tight for us, I will admit to being a bit jealous of all the new things she has. I've met her fianc and he is a nice man, but I feel she's treating him more like a bank machine than a partner. It's not just me, DH was upset by it too.
I'm also really upset by her abuse of the system. She was never like that prior to this past year. Honestly, a big part of me wants to rat her out but I have no idea how to even do that.
At this point, as sad is it makes me, I'm ready to just write the money off as a bad debt and give up on her. I guess I'd mostly feel bad about not seeing her little girl any more, as I've always been her honorary auntie.
Thanks for reading and letting me vent. Any advice/other perspectives are welcome. Thanks.

My sister had that same "feature" in her old rental. She made a cap for it. Piece of wood for the top with a very slight overhang on either side, trimmed with pieces of moulding on three sides and painted. It slid over the top of the planter, leaving a flat shelf. She just removed it when she moved out.

Check Homesense for bedding. They have great sets for around $100 to $150. Actually, I just got a really cute duvet and shams set from Sears of all places for $60 (huge white poppies on a light brown background). Quilts Etc. had some really good clearance prices last time I was there too (last week). I looked at a really pretty set there that would have been about $100 all in (I was worried my dogs' nails would snag it because it was very soft, fine cotton).
Try thrift stores, Craigslist or Ikea's As-Is for a headboard. Then you could move the large picture over the bed to over the dresser or get a large mirror.
Maybe some opaque curtains to hide the closet clutter? Jysk has really nice ones for cheap.
I'd also love to see some larger lamps on the bedside tables, but you could always do that in the future.
My niece had the same dressers and didn't like the translucent fronts. She popped them out and spray glued nice fabric to them. It looked really good.

While it's not a look that I could see on myself, it suits her and she likes it so that's what matters. We work at a law firm and have a dress code. Nothing has ever been said about her earrings but I think that's because she keeps them small and matching.

I think I found where your DH got the idea to put dish detergent in the front loader. I searched kerosene on clothes and it actually recommends using dish detergent on clothes that have kerosene spilled on them.

One of the guys at work once put liquid dish soap in the dishwasher. We scooped out the suds (a wet/dry vac is great if you have one or a bucket and lots of cloths or paper towels).
