We went with a gazebo, similiar to the ones you posted with the frame out.. At the time we bought it, it was the only one we found in the size we wanted. We like it but 4 years later the top fabric is ripped and we need to look into replacing.. not sure how expensive it will be.
On our deck we have a couch like furniture with ottomans. A gazebo seemed to make more sense for that.. if we had a table/chair set we probably would have gone with a umbrella.

So I am way behind everyone.. I'm planning on doing W1D3 today.. I bought a jogging stroller as I wasn't finding the time to go without DS around. I missed my last running day due to bad winds, but did the routine on the elliptical and will repeat it today
My first run I had watch the time as my ipod (with podcast) was giving problems.. the next time was much better with just listening to podcast that just indicates when to start running or walking.

I've made cake balls/pops a few times.. I use a double boiler to melt the chocolate and have kept the chocolate over the hot water while dipping to keep the chocolate from thickening too much.
As pp I dip the stick in chocolate before sticking it in the cake and then put back in the freezer.. i take a few out at a time to dip.
I'm in the midst of making some bunny cake balls.. making 70 bunny ears isn't so much fun.. some of them might not make it into bunnys and become easter chick's!

Our family room is like that except the wall opposite the fireplace is half wall, half banister..
We didn't want the tv over the fireplace either so we have a our tv table flanked with two leaning shelf units against the wall perpindicular to the fireplace. A single chair similiar to the one in the picture angled between the window and a leaning shelf. Couch is opposite the fireplace and love seat is opposite the tv.
The loveseat separates the family room from kitchennette area which as a glass round table and four chairs.
We were also worried of closing in the space, but I really like it this way. Has a cozy feel.
When we have a big party we move the loveseat beside the fireplace.. it fits perfectly between fireplace and sliding door to backyard. Just opens up more floor space for all those people that like to stand around kitchen.
My friend has the same sort of layout to and they put the tv over fireplace and furniture layout similiar to your pic but with 3 piece furniture.

We have some friends that switched their DS from Casa to Kindergartern and said there is a big difference in how much their son seem to be learning.. Montessori was more challenging.
that being said, from what I've been told, some kid's personality is more suited to Montessori methods than others (specially if they are the more traditional) so maybe see how your DS does before deciding.
BabyGrl, we're in a bit of a similiar situation as we are limited to our choices due to me not driving.. Right now I work at home and our neighbour does a Montessori program at home, so DS (33 months) goes there. But ideally I would prefer in an enviroment with more kids come the new school year. We'll have to decide between the at home Montessori or the local daycare (if we ever get of their waiting list)

My DS is just a bit older and he generally is fine to play independantly at home. I work at home so he will play in our family room floor while I work, but I do play with him for periods of time and then let him play my himself for abit.. if he asks me to play, I'll sit on the floor for a bit.
In terms of toys, when he is a bit clingy and I need to do something, I do break out a new toy, but generally they are smaller things like puzzles.. also I'll set up "activities" for him..ie pouring beans from cup to cup. or a big tupaware of rice with some spoons and cups. it makes a bit of mess but gives me some time. I've also set up some little boxes of puzzles, stringing beads, lacing cards etc on a low bookshelf that he helps himself to.. (These are ideas I've got from some sites that are based on Montessori teaching method)

If you're open to home made, you can do some sesame street oes pretty easily.. for hallowen DH and I dressed as big bird and cookie monster.
For big bird, we took a cap and covered it in yellow felt with some felt "feathers" sticking up. made styrofoam eyes and stuck them on the cap. Dh wore a yellow sweater he had.
For cookie monster, I wore a blue hoodie, with styrofoam eyes stuck on the hood. made a card board cookie which I put on a chain (could use string) around my neck..

Thanks for the response..
Yes, I talked to him after we got home, and will do so again before the next class. He's already said he's going to sit on the "apple" next time but hopefully he won't be so "scared" to loose the spot. I'll try and talk to him so he understands he may not have the same spot the whole class..
I was glad the little girl close to us was busy walking around during the class. If she had wanted to sit close to him (which was close to her mom) I would have made him move and he likely would have had a tantrum. He hardly has any and never in public so not sure how I would have handled!

DS is about 32 months. He has recently gotten a bit possessive. Some background - He is an only child and is at home with me as I work from home part-time. Since January he has been going to a neighbour that runs a montessori progarm from her house 2x a week for an hour. She has only 2 other kids beside him. We go to the library for story time each week and he has sportsball once a week too. This is just to give you an idea on his regular interactions with other kids. (We also get together with friends/family with kids, but thats not regular)
At the library they have those rugs with a scene on them. The last few times he has chosen a spot to sit on and will return to on it. Today he was totally possessive of his spot (a part with a snake). He refused to stand at all in case someone else sat on it. One little girl as sitting on part of the snake and he wasn't happy.. he kept saying "mine" trying to put his hand on the part she was sitting. I stopped him by moving his hand and telling him he had to share but he was miserable the whole class.. just sat there, didn't participate because he was worried about his "spot". The girl sitting around him didn't care was wasn't mostly runnng about so it wasn't really an issue for the other kids.
I really don't like this possessiveness but not sure how to handle it.. any thoughts would be appreciated.

I work at home part-time. like you said, I didn't want to send DS to daycare after mat leave.. with our commute and types of jobs his hours would be too long in daycare and at times both us us would get stuck at work with problems, bring work home etc.. I just wanted a better life balance.. So I stepped down from my position but my workplace was keen to keep me on somehow so they managed to make a part-time position for me where I work from home 15hrs a week. (I'm in IT)
my son has been relatively easy going, so it hasn't been too hard.. I try to work 3hr/day but my work is completely flexible so it's completely around him.. if he is playing well my himself, I'll do some work.. when he naps I'll do some work.. and sometimes I had him hanging off my back while I'm typing an email. Sometimes I'll get some work done when he's having a bath or in the summer when he's playing outside I'll sit on the deck with my laptop. But my work mostly allows me to work in small pieces at a time like that.. if I've had urgent stuff, certain movies, shows will keep him busy for a while
Main thing is that I don't try to do too much house work. and I'm lucky DH has been very supportive..
Currently we are working on getting into DS into a Montessori program a neighbour runs from her house. She wants him potty trained so for now he is just going 1hr/day. once he is trained, we'll be doing 1/2 days at least twice a week and if my work gives me more hours then we'll put him in for more days. This was mainly for more socialization for him and to get him a bit more independant.

We had an Umbra photo tree
http://www.umbra.com/ustore/product/fotofalls.store . And had had made little slips of paper with the text "Thoughts for hte bride and groom" with ribbon attached. People hung the note on the tree after writing or signing. After the wedding I put the notes in a scrap book.
Something from a wedding we went to - couple purchased software that allowed them to turn their laptop, printer and dslr camera into a photobooth setup.. it was setup and left.. guests just had to touch laptop screen to start a "session", it took 4 shots and printed them out in a strip just like a photobooth.. it printed 2 copies, one for them to sign and leave for the couple and one for e to take.. people really enjoyed it.

that's impressive! So was she reading at all before she used the DVDs?
My DS is about the same age, knows his alphabet and phonics. He seems to have started reading words here and there.. we're not completely sure if memorized them or actually reading.. but he has read words that I don't think he has seen before so I'm thinking he is starting to read.
We want to encourage it so will look into these DVDs. He loves letters (and numbers) so will probably enjoy them no matter what.

Same thing happened to my DH loooong time ago, before we were together.. went out with his then GF and another couple.. after waiting a while for the bill, they left, DH felt "pressured" to go along. not exactly about recieving a gift.. but where I used to work we had a co-op student. We do a Kris Kringle exchange every year where you steal the gifts from others. The team is mostly men, myself and co-op student are only females. She bought a lipstick that she wanted and hid the present under the christmas tree skirt. When it was her turn she choose it.. of course the guys stole if from her and she was pouty/bratty about it. They eventually gave it back, but I couldn't believe someone would do that.

Finished up my last purse intended for xmas gifts.. Did these over a couple months
This is from the book Carry me. It uses an internal purse frame. Back of bag has a zippered pocket .

Inside - I tried to add a zippered divider down the middle (not in the pattern), but made it too big, it was too late to fix. It can just be pushed to one side. One side of the inside has a zippered pocket, the other has two open pockets and pen pockets.

pleated clutch - from Vogue pattern.. love how this turned out.

Crossbody bag - This is from a Vogue pattern. My interfacing caused a lot of wrinkles.. so annoying. If I had more time I'd do it again

inside - has a zippered pocket on one side and 2 open pockets and pen slips on the other.

this one is made from a placemat. I'm not too happy with how it turned out, it's was simple to do but made some mistakes. It's for my SIL who is having a baby any day now, thinking she can use it as a diaper clutch. It has a zippered pocket on the back and a magnetic closure. Used this tutorial -
lined pouch
Sorry for the long post! Excited to be done these projects..
