RNR - you'll always be part of the May 2007 mommies group!!!
I'm still kicking around. Maddie turns five today and we held a family party for her yesterday. She wanted a halloween theme and it was a lot of fun!
School is going great - I can't believe we only have 8 weeks left! She does full days/alternate days and loves her teacher. I have her in a Kindercraft program for 2 hours a week to help fill her time and she absolutely thrives in that. She's just started playing soccer for the season as well.
It's hard to believe my baby is now five...*sigh*...she's grown up way too fast! She got to hold my sister's 2 week old baby yesterday and it really took me back...to see just how far she's come.
She's one really cool kid though. She knows her mind, has her own sense of style and is rough and tumble with a real sensitive heart. She's a craft fanatic as well. The next few years are going to be a lot of fun with her

I have to agree..it sounds like a little girl whose life has turned upside down and is very confused. She is missing your time and attention and will do whatever it takes to get it.
I'd start by being more lenient and just really listening to her. I'd ask some leading questions to see what it is that's bothering her the most. I'd probably just sit on the floor and hug her for a while too. I'd ignore all the negative behaviour instead of punishing her for it. I try to remember that kids only have a limited toolset for getting our attention!
Is there some sort of classes you can sign her up for so that she gets some of that social time she used to have at the playground? Can you maybe go on a special mommy/DD day with her?
It's great to see you back...just wish it was under happier circumstances!

Well I don't exactly "work full time" unless you consider being a SAHM mom "work". Now that my youngest goes to school every other day it allows me to get some workouts in while they are gone.
For the most part though - I go to evening/weekend classes for the majority of my workouts. When classes don't run I will do my workouts in the evening. DH takes care of putting the girls to bed while I get my weights in. I much prefer the classes though - I find them motivating and I like being committed to a time!
At this point DH doesn't do any real formal workouts...just takes the dog for a walk before bed.

Poor kiddo. I really hope it's just some nasty viral infection as I wouldn't wish whooping cough on anyone!!

Alright the weather here has turned summer-like quite unexpectedly. Though I'm loving it...I have nothing temperature appropriate to wear to classes now that I've changed sizes. I'd like to invest in some nice pieces to get me through classes in the spring/summer. It's already starting to get quite hot/humid when doing Zumba and the yoga capris I've been wearing are nearly suffocating me.
Any suggestions on clothing that will keep me cool and hopefully wick away moisture (I'm a sweating machine)? Even the instructor was trying to roll up her cargos last night thanks to the heat...

It can be. Your body will turn it into fat if there's too much of it.
The guidelines I have from my trainer are:
basic needs 0.8g/kg body weight
day with exercise (not weights) 0.8-1.4g/kg body weight
weight training days 1.6-2.0g/kg body weight (1.6 should be sufficient for most women)
I would top out around 88 grams on a tough workout day. I would probably reduce the amount of protein you have in your smoothie. I try to keep any fruit consumption to lunch at the latest. This is a good reminder for me to plug my stuff into some sort of tracking program to see what I am getting! I have a feeling I'm probably overdoing protein!
I hope your body feels better soon!

HITT is actually HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training - it's generally a fairly short workout (20 min or so) where you give maximum effort for a short period of time followed by a rest period...so say you sprint for 30 seconds then you walk for another minute...then back to sprinting..

I have had one (along with an ultrasound). It was a follow-up to a high screening result I had with thermography.
I have dense tissue but very small breasts. I'm not sure if they can determine how dense the tissue is until you have a mammogram...but dense tissue does make the test results harder to read and less accurate.
As for the test itself - it wasn't as bad as I had expected. Uncomfortable - YES. I think it depends on how sensitive your breasts are to start with. I have so little to squish so I'm not sure if that helps with the test or just makes it harder to do! I actually found the way I had to stand and hold my arms was more challenging (you need to be perfectly still/holding your breath when they take the image)
I think you need to consider why it is you are doing it and what you plan to do with the results. What if it comes back with a false positive...then what? How will you feel? What will it change? If you have no issues at the moment, it could potentially serve as a good baseline reading. It's really hard to say. I'd definitely keep up with the self checks as they are the most reliable way of detecting problems!

I do my dogs nails as well. I much prefer the scissor-type nail clippers to the guillotine ones! I agree that black nails are more challenging to do..but I just do a small bit at a time. I've cut the quick before, so you need your powder there to stop the bleeding, but it really isn't all that bad.

What about some protein powder or some yogurt in your morning smoothie? My trainer recommends a breakfast that's around 300 cals to get you going. I've started adding a dollop of almond butter to my smoothie as I was feeling a bit flat in the mornings that I do weights.
As isee mentioned, I like to keep my fruit consumption early in the morning and tend to not eat any after lunch (unless I'm weight training and I find I need that quick blast of carbs before I start...usually an apple...it's been a lot of trial and error).
We eat an early dinner like you do! I try to have a snack around 8pm or whenever I get home from an evening class. I often like to have some nuts, roasted chickpeas or sometimes an egg if I'm feeling really hungry.
I agree that you shouldn't be worried about things not happening on the scale after 4 days. I'd also measure your body as sometimes the inches come off but it's not reflected in the scale immediately! I find that I put on an average of 2lbs when my period comes...that weight slowly falls off over the following week with no extra effort on my part. There are a tonne of variables...though weight always seems to be the easiest to look at

Great job on your part!! Keep up the good work!

I'm not familiar with that particular company. We do have a couple of Kinetico products at our house. The first is a dechlorinator which removes all the chlorine from the water that enters the house. It would serve the purpose that Dr Oz had mentioned. We also have a reverse osmosis system for our drinking water. It filters out chemicals/viruses/bacteria and such and then we have a mineral cartridge to add the good stuff back in!
I'd probably look a bit more into it and figuring out why you are doing it and if there are any other costs associated with the system. I know our reverse osmosis system increases our cost as there is some water wasted through the filtering process. There are also other options out there - simple filters you can put on shower heads to filter out chlorine. Lots to think about!!
