It's hard to know for sure, but I know with D, even though he's a boy, he doesn't do well with male instructors. We just started him with Preschool Level 1 swimming last week too and we (the parents) are allowed in the water for classes 1 and 2. By lesson #3, we aren't allowed in anymore. I went in for the first class but told him that next week he gets to go in all by himself. He was SO excited for swimming the first week and loved his female instructor. BUT, they also have a teaching assistant (4 kids in the class, 1 assistant and 1 teacher). The assistant is male and D was terrified of him. Anytime the assistant asked him to participate, he said no. It was pretty awful. But when I explained to the teacher that he was more comofortable around females, she got him to do almost everything.
This week (yesterday) was class #2 and DH took D and D went in by himself while DH sat on the edge watching. DH needed to coax him into doing a few things, but overall, it went amazingly well.
A few ideas/suggestions:
- can you take her to the pool a few times this week before her next class to get her used to it?
- can you go in with her during her next class to make her more comfortable?
- call ask and for a female instructor?
I wouldn't push it too hard at this point, but I do agree swimming is important. Good luck!

As far as I know, the traditional Keurig systems aren't going anywhere but I think they wanted to come out with a machine that did espressos, lattes, etc. The VUE does all that and also allows you to more easily adjust stregth of coffee, temperature, size, etc.
I LOVE my Keurig and while I'd love the new VUE too (or instead), DH will NOT be happy if we get another coffee maker. I may have a small (okay, big) coffee addiction.
As per Keurig though, no plans to stop manufacturing the traditional k-cups. Development and new products will continue for both machines.

He's a huge fan of the Pet game that comes with it but I find it a bit annoying that you have to connect to the computer to get more treats, etc. Otherwise though it's tons of fun!

We're in the same boat as you and I'm letting YDS where ODS's shoes. Any of the ones that are REALLY worn out I'm not going to bother with (only one pair). The only thing that may be different is that ODS has tiny narrow feet and a high in-step whereas YDS I think will have bigger wider feet in which case we may have to buy him different shoes. For now though, I'm going with it

I just started seeing commercials for a new product designed for kids 12 to 24 months. Apparently it's meant to be an nutrient rich transition from breastmilk or formula to adult cow's milk. It's called Baboo by Natrel.
Has anyone tried it yet? The reviews on it seem to be great!
Oh and if you Like the page on Facebook, they'll mail you a free coupon for a tetra pack.
ETA: I have a feeling it's going to be pretty expensive though

We have an older Marathon (2009) and a new Marathon 65. The new 65 is rear facing and the other one forward facing but I've never had any problems tightening the straps! (We have True Fit too and that one took a little while to get used to!)
Is it possible the straps are getting caught on something and therefore not tightening all the way?

Thanks akl!
Yeah, there's the Swedish and Australian method. Swedish helps prevent rebound and Australian, as we have it, is to prevent rotation as in Australia they have anti-rebound bars in their car.
Gah...I really can't have it the Australian way. I'll see if anyone has any input and if not I guess we'll just take it to a car seat clinic and see if they have any ideas. I was hoping not to have to pay as it's installed properly otherwise and tether isn't required but I was hoping to

Even though it's optional, it's safer this way. Not sure what to do.

DH installed our new Britax Marathon 65 rear-facing in our 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. It has Stow and Go seats and therefore, the tether anchor which is usually connected with the D ring to the bottom of the front row passenger seat in most cars, doesn't work in our van. Instead, as I understand it, it connects to the back of the passenger 2nd row seat.
Does anyone else have the tether anchor like this and if so, can you please explain or show me how this is done?
I know the tether anchor is optional, but I'd prefer to use it!
Thanks!!!

I only like strong coffee too and I order all mine online from either Tweed and Hickory or ECS Coffee.
2 things you need to make sure when buying - that it's a dark roast AND extra bold. Extra Bold k-cups mean there are more grounds in the k-cup and therefore don't get watered down as much!
The strongest that I've had so far and LOVE are:
Green Mountain - Dark Magic
Grean Mountain - Sumatran Blend
Caribou - Sumatra
Van Houtte - Eclipe (delicious!!!)
Timothy's - Rainforest Espresso
Jet Fuel
Wake-up Call
Black Tiger
Coffee People Organic
And I think there are a few more I can't think of.
The Starbucks ones are good too but a lot more expensive!

ODS will be 3 in February and he is still, happily, in a crib. He naps at daycare (home care) in a pack 'n play.
We really have no reason to move him to a bed. He never tries to climb out and seems to really be happy and cozy in there.
Did anyone else wait a bit longer than the "norm" to transition to a bed? If so...how old was your LO when you finally made the switch.
Just curious

I definitely ALWAYS lock it when I'm out - Public parking lot, etc.
At home, driveway, etc., I used to...
BUT, there are always a lot of car break-ins in our neighbourhood (rear-lane garages) and a lot of them involve cars where the door WERE locked. That of course causes greater damage - having to repair the lock, door, etc. (depending on what was done).
So now I'm torn on which is the greater of the two evils

I know we used to always have threads for Eat Shrink and Be Merry but also for Cray Plates and Looneyspoons.
With the release of the Podleski sisters new book, I thought maybe we could have a thread here for reviews on recipes from the new book.
I recently bought it and haven't made anything yet. I know that the majority of the recipes are just their "most-loved" from previous books, but a lot of them are re-written with new nutritional info, subbing whole weat, etc. Plus there are lots of new recipes.
Anyone else have the new book?

I posted in the other thread (the Costco one) a list of who was sold out, getting new shipments etc.
I have my name down on a lot of waiting/order lists and have already managed to get 4 and gave them (sold for retail value) to people in my neighbourhood.
Where are you located? If I get called for another one I can let you know and you can have it! Most were from Mastermind locations that thought they weren't getting more shipments and then ended up getting them.
I also was able to order from TRU and Chapters last week.
Feel free to PM me
