Hi Ladies,
Just a little WWYD do here, with some quick background information.
I've been seeing a chiropractor (among other doctors) for a few issues. One of the issues (and the most disruptive) is severe pain in my rib case and breast/chest area. This is an on-going chronic problem that I have been affected by since I was a kid, on various levels. No doctor has been able to diagnose this or the other problems, and I have been told I'm that "once in a lifetime mystery case".
Part of the chiropractor's treatment is to do muscular-skeletal adjustments right on and in between my ribs. This is extremely painful for me, especially in an area just under my right breast. This area was most sensitive during my last treatment (this past Thursday), to the point where he couldn't even gently place his finger there without my howling and sobbing.
We just started trying treatment about 2 months ago, so we are in the beginning stages and taking it one day at a time.
Anyways, while laying in bed last night, I found a lump on my rib cage. It is under the skin, and is about 1.5 inches long, and 0.5 inches wide, and quite large depth-wise. It doesn't move (just privots a bit when I press my finger on it from side to side), and is extremely painful to touch. It is exactly where that super-sensitive spot was last treatment.
My question to you ladies is: what should my course of action be?
My first thought was to see my chiropractor first, as he has been working on this area.
I am home sick today (unrelated), and my chiropractor is quite far - near my work. I didn't have an appointment until Thursday, so I called them and got one for tomorrow.
My husband thinks I should go to a walk-in clinic or hospital today, while I am home sick.
He thinks my chiropractor will tell me to get it looked at by another doctor anyways (to have it x-rayed, etc.).
The reasons why I am hesitating:
- My family doctor is not very accessible from where I am now, and it is impossible to get an appt same day.
- I know that when you find a lump, you don't get emergency doctor's appointments (for painless ones anyways?), therefore, I don't think it's something I should go to the hospital for. (Am I wrong?)
- Because the lump is in an area that I have long-term, undiagnosed issues with, I'm thinking it will be difficult for another doctor to get the whole picture. (But do they need the "whole picture" to look into a painful lump?)
- I am working in a new position (contract) and am basically "auditioning" for permanent. I would have to take time off (basically the day) to go to my family doctor. I'm home from work today.. so if we can get action today, it may be best?
So what do you think?
Do you think I should wait and see what my chiropractor says? I'm on the verge of panicking every so often, so the waiting is driving me crazy.
Obviously I'm not looking for a diagnosis haha... but I guess opinions on what your course of action would be if you were in this situation.
Thanks in advance!

The way I see it, we ALL have our insecurities, no matter what size we are.
Therefore, if someone feels insulted when they are called "skinny", who am I to judge?
I haven't been in their shoes, so I will never *truly* know how it feels.
And the grass is always greener on the other side. Some "average" people may look at "skinny" people and envy their bodies. On the other hand, there are "skinny" people who would kill to be a bit more curvy.

Another vote to renovate!
As PP's have said, you can always change the way your home looks, but you can never change location.
Especially with the fact that you have a GREAT renter downstairs... why mess with a good thing?
And with a handy husband... more reason to reno!!
It'd be an easy decision for me. I LOVE our location right now, and DH and I discussed (just yesterday) that if we need a bigger home in the future, we will totally hold out for one to go up for sale in our area. It's most important to us.

I grew up in London, and spent a year at Fanshawe.
We lived far from the north-east end of the city, so I wasn't directly affected until I attended Fanshawe.
I just STAYED THE HECK AWAY from Flemming, the street where all of this ridiculousness occurs. There were constant house parties being held, and invites were not exclusive. I went to one ONCE, and it was before a pub night that I was attending. I was there quite early, and left before things even began to get rowdy. I'm glad I did.
Fanshawe needs to step up and take ownership. There needs to be direct accountability, and it needs to start with the school.
I *get* that it is not on their property, and does not *always* involve students from Fanshawe, but given their lack of housing for students, as PP's have mentioned, they need to address this issue.
Ugh. Children. I don't miss University or College.

I don't think you have to worry about your pregnancy. If you were to catch it, just stay on top of your hydration level. It would be no fun, but an otherwise harmless illness (according to the doctors I dealt with).
Especially since there are no meds needed to treat it. You don't have to worry about needing to put drugs in your baby-baking body

Hmmm... that sucks, SBee and geologyrocks!
Let me try and re-post.
Hi Ladies,
I'm considering cutting my hair. MAYBE.
What do you think?
Me, when I straighten my hair:
Me, with my natural curl... but not as defined as usual. Hmmm... I can't find a good picture.
And wearing it up:
Straight (don't mind the bruises and brutal eyes... Halloween!)
Curly
Okay... so now what I'm thinking...
I'm using Katherine Heigl as an example because I've been told a few times that I look similar to her.
Semi-straight
(If I don't put mousse in my hair or blow-dry it straight, this is pretty much the texture.)
Curly (If I put mousse in my hair and semi-dry with a diffuser, this is the general texture (obviously not as shiny hahaha)
Do you think this style would look good straight as well?
So I'm thinking maybe SOMETHING like that, maybe a bit shorter. But I'd side-part and have the side "bangs", as per the "straight" pictures of my hair.
I've had long hair for yeeeears now. And I want a change. But I'm so scared!
What do you think?
A few girls are saying "DO IT!", and so far I have one male who angrily told me to not even consider it. I can't pull it off, I'm too short (5'2"), etc. hahaha.
TIA!!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I had an appointment with my stylist today, and he was my final deciding factor. If he vetoed the idea, it wasn't happening. If I got his blessing, choppity chop!
The verdict...
CHOP IT!!
I brought him these two inspiration pictures only...
And here we go!
A head full of foils for the usual highlights... And the LAST official picture of my long hair hahaha.
The length hair that he cut off, plus about an inch and a half that I have hidden in my hand...
And... fini!
At the salon.
At home (please excuse how tired I look. I only slept from 5 am until 7 am due to being SUPER NERVOUS about how this turned out haha...
(and when the H-E-DOUBLE-HOCKEY-STICKS did my boobs start looking so big??? Jesus Murphy! This picture is distorrrting them for sure!)
Sides:
I will come back and add some more pictures when I wear it naturally curly for the first time.
Also... my natural part with my bangs is much more like the first picture of Katherine Heigl in my update. So I can wear it that way, or style it to be more of a straight part, like he did.
I'm quite happy with it. And relieved that I didn't come out looking like a fat-faced bullfrog. And it feels SO nice to have gotten rid of so much hair.
I LOVE my stylist. He's so talented, and such a sweetheart! When he took the "cape" off of me, and I saw it with my neckline for the first time, I started crying. (Happy tears, and tears of relief.) He couldn't stand seeing me cry hahaha... almost got him going (wouldn't be the first time)! And he even so generously gave me a new brush as a gift to kind of mark the occasion. It's the same one he uses to style, so I LOVE it.
(Oh, and I'm such a loser... As soon as I got home, the FIRST things I did: Try a cute little pony, try cute pigtails, try on my cowgirl hat, try on my baseball caps, try on my headbands, etc etc etc. Wanted to see how the new look fit into my old life! lol)
And since my original post, I was offered a fantastic job in kind of a fancy-dancy setting, with big executives. So this cut will be perfect for that environment, and will take me MUCH less time in the morning!!
So... What do you think? Mistake? Or winner?
Also wanted to add... we had a good chat about maintenance, styling, time, effort, cost, etc. And he thinks this will be MUCH easier (and cheaper) for me. And that it will work both curly and straight.

Oh! And I guess another small piece of advice...
The ONLY thing I could consume for the 4 weeks I suffered from this were Frosties from Wendy's.
Any other liquid, cold, warm, etc. really stung my sores and throat. Even ice cream, popsicles, etc. For some reason, the Frosties didn't sting.
Just something to keep in mind if his mouth does get bad and you find he is not wanting to consume anything. It may take the strangest thing to go down pain-free.

Just noticed this thread in the "recent posts" section, and thought I'd come and add my experience.
From what I have heard, it is not too bothersome to children. As PPs have said, doctors cannot do anything for him. However, the symptoms MAY lead to dehydration, so I'd just keep an eye on that.
I was diagnosed with this over Christmas of 2010, and let me tell you, it was like being on my DEATH BED. The pain in my head and neck were excruciating. I became so dehydrated that I lost use of my legs and partially in my arms as well. I was covered from head to toe with a hot rash. And overall, just felt like I had been hit by a truck. I was diagnosed with H1N1 when that was making the rounds, and even being a severe asthmatic, I'd take H1N1 and all that went with it over this virus ANY DAY.
Also, it took 6 doctors, including two infectious disease specialists to finally diagnose me. And I spent many days on IV in order to gain the use of my legs back.
So please, please be weary if you start to see any signs in yourself or DH. My first sign was foul breath. Then I got mouth sores, followed by "hot spots" on my shoulders. Next came a low-grade fever, and then BAM, woke up one morning covered in spots. All hell broke loose.
I am so, so grateful to know that children don't have the same experience. I couldn't even begin to imagine what it would be like as a child, or as the parent of the child!
But again, keep a close eye on any adults who may have come into contact. It can get pretty serious for us!
Good luck, and hope your little guy clears up asap!

You know what? Part one of my answer MIGHT explain part two. The weird piece may just be blonder or something than the other thin layers, hence, it is standing out in pictures. (I have used a flash in all of them, so it may be picking up the light).

I'm going CRAZY over here!!
What a weird turn of events.
They are under caution, Juan Pablo Montoya is just GIVIN' 'ER to catch up to the back, and BAM, he slams into the jet dryer truck.
Huge explosion, out of control jet fuel fire... track is.a.mess.
They've already been postponed twice. From noon Sunday, to noon Monday, to 7 pm Monday.
They've raced over half of the race, so it's considered a complete race under Nascar rules. Therefore, if the track is damaged beyond reasonable repair from this crazy fire, the race could end under the red flag.
That would make DAVE BLANEY a Daytona 500 winner?!?!? Crazy!! Hilarious... and so awesome for him.
Come on... someone HAS to be watching!!!

I'd rather be respected. I couldn't decide until I flipped it around. Would I rather be disliked or not respected?
If people didn't respect me, it would say a lot more about who I am as a person, in my opinion.
If someone doesn't like me, it could be for many reasons beyond my control. Personality clashing, misunderstanding, etc.
Good question, though!

I know some people are assuming the worst since we haven't heard from her.
But let's all keep some positive thoughts going. There could be many, many reasons why she hasn't logged back in and updated us. Maybe she is with someone who is helping her. Maybe she was just having a really bad day, and does not want to come back and revisit that day. Maybe she has just been busy.
I am the ULTIMATE worry wart, but I am really trying to keep positive thoughts going in this situation. Especially since she DID reach out for help, on here. That is a good sign.

Just saying those scary thoughts out loud is a HUGE, HUGE thing. You are brave, you are intelligent, and you ARE worth giving a chance.
It WILL get better. It may take a while, and it will be so, so difficult. But it WILL get better.
I've had days where I've looked into my bottle of sedatives and thought, "There are probably enough in there to put me out." I've had days when I've "noticed" that vertical cuts would work much faster than horizontal cuts.
In my heart, I knew it was something I would NEVER do. However, I had to come to the realization that these are suicidal thoughts.
And god... realizing that was the scariest moment of my life. But it was always a VERY important moment in my life.
You are AT that moment. You realize that you are close. We don't know how close, but it's still close.
And you have been able to say it out loud. GOOD FOR YOU. That took more courage than going on will ever take.
So you CAN go on. You absolutely have the strength.
Keep talking to us. We're here.

I have been wearing a bkini since I was about 14.
My weight has fluctuated over the years, up, down, up again, down again. You get the idea. So there have been some years where I have felt a littttle bit self-conscious. However, I still find them much flattering than one-pieces on me.
For our honeymoon, I took DH suit shopping with me, and there was only one one-piece that looked nice, and it still didn't compare to all of the bikinis.
I'm also at a point now in my life (have been for the last umm.. 4 years, maybe?) where I never feel self-conscious in one, no matter where my weight sits. *I* am comfortable. If someone is uncomfortable looking at me, then turn away, buddy! I probably don't want your eyes on me anyways

It *might* not be that expensive to have the floor go all the way to the wall, if that's what you'd like.
I know people who are having a much larger area done, AND need it super re-inforced as they are putting in a 2nd floor laundry room right where the empty space used to be.

Maybe the fact that I *love* Rachel McAdams had a bit to do with it, I'm not sure. I hated to see her suffer in any way.
I'm tearing up just thinking about it now.
I just started reading the book, which is the true story that the movie is based on. It is written by the husband and wife who experienced it, with the help of an author, of course.
LOVED this movie.

I am 100% not posting this to cause any alarm. At all. I'm not into fear mongering. I just want to mention it so that people are aware.
A close friend of ours suffered sinus-infection like symptoms for a while. The symptoms were persistent, and no antibiotics were helping.
It took doctors FAR TOO LONG, but they eventually found out that he has nasal cancer. The "statistics" say 60% survival rate.
I JUST wanted to through it out there for people who suffer persistent sinus infections. It concerns me that it took THAT long for doctors to find it. I know the symptoms are common and could be anything... but it's always good to keep that extra knowledge in the back of your mind.
THAT being said... I am not a sufferer of frequent sinus infections, so I don't have any advice. But I wanted to say that I hope you feel better soon!

We are taking our two into the vet in April to have them tested, and we will start prevention some time after that. Whenever the vet says, I guess.
We use Sentinel. I've used a couple of other brands with previous dogs (Hartguard, I think? And maybe Frontline?), and honestly, I haven't noticed a difference.
We've never had problems with reactions or lack of protection.
My two former shih-tzus reacted like crazy to some vaccinations (they ballooned up and looked like Whoville residents!), so I was surprised that they handled heartworn prevention well.
ETA: Our pups were with us just in time to have a round of Sentinel last season. No problems! And I believe it was reasonably priced. (I cannot remember how much though, for the life of me.)
