Update: So, we all went to the pub as planned. Apparently there were tickets for purchase, and the bride had some. When we arrived at 3pm (after a stop at home to let DH change from his suit into jeans), there were 2 lines. I asked the bouncer what the lines were for. He said one line was for ticket holders, and the other was for non-ticket holders. I told him we were with the wedding and he told us to go to the ticket holders line. We didn't have tickets because the bride hadn't given them to us, and she was already inside. But we waited in the ticket line for about 20 minutes. There were a few friends with us, so it wasn't too bad. And then we were let in, and we just paid our $5 cover.
Inside, it was the typical St Paddy's day mayhem. We stayed for a couple of drinks and were home a little after 5. It's not how I would have celebrated my wedding, but the bride loved it, and that's what counts.

It might be just me, but I don't see celebs as real people. Beyonce's baby seems like so far removed from me, that it doesn't seem real. Almost like discussing a birth on some soap opera. It's like it's not real life?
Maybe that's why there's a exception for celebrity births?

No, it won't count against your insurance. Because they have no way to prove who was driving, they can't use it as proof of your behaviour.
I noticed my last ticket had the wrong address, too. You'd think they'd know where they parked their surveillance vehicle, no? But it never occurred to me as grounds to fight it. I mean, if you're speeding, you're speeding. Does it matter what block of the street it was on?
Unless, was the speed limit different where you were vs where they said you were? I mean, if you're doing 59km on the 800 block where the speed limit is 60km, it's a different story than doing 59km on the 700 block where the speed limit is 50km.

But the optics of it are bad. These guys had to know how this looks in NA, if they aren't smart enough to keep the pictures to themselves, and STFU when Peta complains (not attack vegetarians on twitter), they ought to be "fired".

So I'm going to a wedding this weekend. The ceremony is in the morning, followed by a lunch, followed by going to an Irish pub. The bride wanted to have the reception at a pub, but since it's St Paddy's day, that wasn't an option.
Several places were outright rude to her when she called to inquire. One local place was very nice and said they couldn't hold space for her due to the potential lost revenue, but tried calling a few smaller places on her behalf. They also said she would get a front of the line pass, and they'd do their best for the rest of the wedding. So she decided to go with them. We're all supposed to go and cross our fingers we don't spend too much time waiting outside.
I just found out a radio station is hosting a party at this pub, advertising, prizes, and free entrance to the first 100 people. So, um, yeah, there's no freakin way 100 people are getting into this bar at 2:00. I'm a little pissed at this bar for not mentioning this to her. She picked them because they were supposedly nice and accommodating, but forgetting to mention this doesn't seem very nice.
So, would you tell her? Is there maybe time to find something else? Or would it just stress her out and there's nothing she can do about it anyway?

I think the issue is Jonas Bros fans are now in university, or working entry level jobs and living on their own for the first time, and generally don't have much disposable income. But Ricky Martin fans are in their 30s-40s, with more money to spend.

I tried the TKTS booth in London, and it was a huge disappointment. They laughed at me for wanting tickets to anything anyone had ever heard of.
Evita offers student rush tickets, which I qualify for, for $38. I just have to line up at the theatre at 10am. But the rush policy for Book of Mormon is to show up 2 hours before the show and put your name in a draw. If you get called, you get to buy a ticket for $32. That seems a little riskier, and could waste precious hours I could spend exploring NYC.

I'm such a novice, I don't think I can do too many, even if I had the time and money.
From what I've read, Daniel Radcliffe was popular because people wanted to see Harry Potter in real life. But his singing and dancing was apparently not Broadway worthy. Nick Jonas would be better, because he comes from a musical background. But he doesn't have the same star power as Daniel has, so the revenues have been slipping.
John would have been good to see, too.

Haha, GR! That's the ONE thing I've seen. (And I know that the Jubilee is not the same, but it's still the only thing I've seen.)
I'm considering Evita with Ricky Martin (yes, he's still alive, and from the promo shots, as hot as ever!) and/or How to Succeed with Nick Jonas (who I had to look up because the same sounded familiar, but I'm too old to know why) and Beau Bridges (is it a sign of old age that I'd be more disappointed if Beau was under-studied?).
I found a couple of articles in the NY Times that say Nick and Beau should be in it until July. And Evita doesn't officially start until April, so May should be good to see Ricky.

I am going to NYC in May, and would like to take in a show. I have heard of people seeing shows that were supposed to be staring certain actors, but the day they went, the actor was already off the show.
Is there any way to know who the cast will be on a specific date? I realize with live shows, there may be a last minute substitution due to illness. But if a show is advertising certain actors, is it reasonable to expect that the same actor will be doing the show 2 months down the road? Or are the dates that actor will be in the show posted somewhere?

Actually, it was my impression that the $9 pots could be mixed in store, the $5 pots were shipped in. I was SOL because I refuse to pay $9 for a sample, and they were sold out of my colour in the $5 pot. So they should be able to sell you a sample of any colour, you just might have to pay more money.
On the other hand, Lowes mixes the testers in store, too, and they seem to always be out of the bases to mix samples in. So, yeah, call first.

It still shows that 30% are not "a natural fit for Canadian Family" as SJM has stated. However you choose to look at it, 30% would not be interested in travel articles about when you should take your kids to Disney, or ads for strollers.

I don't know how I got through it, but I used to be terrified. My parents used to wrap me in a blanket to hold me down to get needles. But then I had an issue that had me going in for tests and IVs every few weeks for over a year. After that, once in a while no longer seems like a problem.

So if you're trying to make a decision about where to go for dinner with a large group of friends, the people yelling loudly "let's just go anywhere!" drowning out the people who have strong objections to something are being helpful? Why not listen to the people who have reasons to voice an objection? And if everyone else is fine with whatever, then as long as you don't go to one of the places that have been objected to, everyone's happy. But if you can't hear the objections because all you hear is "I don't care!" chances are good you're going to decide something that doesn't work for everyone.
If you really don't care what happens to the forum, what purpose does it serve to belittle someone who does care?

I know I'm not going to change any member's mind. I am trying to make it clear to SJM that the concessions are not enough. Even for the people who do feel it's enough, I don't believe these promises are going to last. I am not alone, and the board will not survive. But that message is getting lost in the voices that are indifferent. If someone was for the change for a specific reason, then please, voice that. But if you just don't care one way or another, then stay out of it because you're just clouding the conversation and hammering another nail in the coffin of the forum.
Believe me, I am well aware that in 2 days, it will all be over and my issues will very likely be ignored. But then it's too late.

Haha! Before that, I just had no interest in the discussions "down there". After, I was afraid.
But of course, I vividly remember the debates about whether pg announcements should be in Misc. It wasn't just a friendly, hey, let's not do that, m'kay? OK! It was ugly. And it got repeated a few times before it finally got settled. And by settled, I believe everyone who might have done it just got too scared to try it (I mean, who wants their happy news to create a "WTF is wrong with you?" response). So it doesn't happen anymore.
I truly believe the outcome of something like that would have been different on a "parenting" forum.

Oh, and another thought. For all the promises of no offending ads on certain pages, rules for who can post what where, etc, these things take effort to keep going. And I guarantee that once the change happens, these promises will be broken because it's just too much of a PITA to keep up with.
But if they don't move the "adult" stuff, those promises are a LOT easier to keep.
And I do believe they don't want anyone leaving now. If the traffic numbers stay steady (or rise) after the change, then the people who made this decision look good. But after that review happens in a few months, they don't give a damn if us freaks without kids leave.
Oh, and Admin, as cranky as I am about this, I do appreciate that you are still in the discussion. Thank-you.

I have made suggestions repeatedly that just get ignored. But rather than try to find them in the 13 pages, here it is again.
Move the boards that actually DO tie in with the content of CanFam, those being the BB sections (with the possible exception of the M&L and TTC Alt sections, but that's for the people actually using those sections to discuss.) For everything else, leave it alone until SJM has another website that ties the topics to the website content.
Yes, they don't match the wedding content now, but they are here. If you're living in the west end of town, but work in the east of town, moving to another neigbourhood in the west end of town, and one with hostile neighbours, is not going to achieve the goal of getting you closer to work. It's just a lot of effort and possible neighbourhood warfare for no benefit.
And of course, I say this with the understanding that all the boards/sections/topics will remain as they are now. So it is not an attempt to separate anything. But if you click on a topic about kids, the framework around the posts will be about kids, so there's an opportunity to find an article that suits you. If you don't choose a topic about kids, there's no benefit to SJM to be taken to a page about kids.
And maybe in the future, if you click on a topic about fitness, you'll be taken to a page where the framework includes links to articles about fitness. Or if you click on a topic about food, you'll be taken to a page with links to articles about food. But clicking on a topic about food and being taken to a page with links to articles about kids around the peripherals does nothing for you OR SJM's traffic building.

I'm doing my bachelor's through Athabasca. So while I am technically full time based on my course load right now, I have an office job during the day. And I can take breaks every few months and do one course at a time.
If I decide to do a Masters, I may do that full time without working at the same time. But it partly depends on the school I go to. Lethbridge has program that interests me, and they don't allow you to do it part time. Waterloo also has a program, and they expect the students to already have started working, so the offer PT as an option. But then, I don't want to drag it out forever, so maybe I'll just take the time off and get it done regardless of the school.
