Moody co-worker is causing anxiety. WWYD?

I started working at a small company 6 months ago. I do graphic design along with 3 other people. Two of us are fairly new, the other two have been there for a few years. 3 of us share a smallish office but we will be moving to a new room soon so that the 4 of us are together. There are two women and two men.
There is not much room in the buiding so our new office will actually be two offices and they made a window inbetween the two so that we can communicate. My female co-worker (who has been there a few years) jokingly asked if the girls are going to be together and the boys together. Our boss said no, she had an arrangement in mind but did not tell us. Afterwards my female co-worker said that she assumed that each new person would be with a more experienced person, that means that I will be with "Rob" if I am not going to be with my female co-worker.
"Rob" trained me, he is very friendly and patient....except when he is in a bad mood, which is mostly mornings and sometimes all day long. He swears at his desk, he grunts when I say good morning, sometimes he doesn't answer at all, I ask him a question and makes me wait an unreasonable amount of time for an acknowledgement that he has heard me. My female co-worker has become the same way to some degree (I assume it is because of working with Rob in close proximity for so long) but she is much more tolerable.
I developed anxiety issues in the past two years and I cannot deal with this negative energy. I feel on edge for hours at a time when he is in a mood. I have physical symptoms where I feel short of breath. Only my female co-worker knows about these issues.
I really don't want to be placed in the office with him. I don't know how long I will last with his bad moods, swearing and negative energy. I'm not sure what to do. Do you think that I should say something? To my boss? To him? I feel that this is all very delicate especially that he has been at the company the longest and he is sort of friends with my boss. I don't want to cause tension between me and Rob either. I have to spend all day long with him...
Any advice? TIA!

I am sorry that you got such bad news but please try to remain positive. Hopefully you have a good support system around you. My 35 year old best friend had breast cancer but she did not have very much support, she lives in the US away from her family and friends with a mentally abusive husband and two children ages 2 and 3. She had a mastectomy and moved to another state to stay with family during her chemo but she is fine now. If you would like to be put in touch with her, PM me. I know that she would be happy to help you as she is/was very grateful to all of the strangers that stepped up to help her out.

I just got the rest of the story....his friend yelled out "I'm telling" before even asking him to stop and giving him a chance to stop. The friend told the teacher that he was wiggling his private parts and, when asked, he agreed that he was wiggling his private parts. My son has been told that genitals, bums and breasts are all rpivate parts. I am assuming that the teacher assumed that "private parts" meant his genitals. Kieran never explained that he was wiggling his bum and so he has been punished. I hope that this is what happened and that I can clear it up tomorrow.

I called and spoke to the principal, it was a misunderstanding and he did not have detention today! Phew!
--------------------------
Really? My 7 year old was in line today, waiting to re-enter the classroom after gym class. He was wiggling his bum (like they do in the chicken dance) at his friend who was standing directly behind him, trying to make him laugh. He was taken to the principal's office and has been given detention at lunch tomorrow. Isn't this a bit extreme?? Couldn't they have just told him not to do that? A warning? He's not a lewd kind of kid, he's not even sure why he is being punished. I only heard about this when I picked him up from after school daycare and he told me about what happened. The behavior report says that he was "wiggling his private parts". Come on! I am going to call the principal tomorrow and tell them that I disagree with this punishment unless you all tell me that I am wrong for feeling this way. Does anyone else think that this is a bit extreme?

I haven't been able to speak to my boss as she had surgery during the week that I missed a few days and she has had a rough recovery so she hasn't been at work. It's all good but I do need to speak to her.
Our plan B is usually my Dh but it's just been a terrible coincidence that he's been away right when this happens. We have to just figure out who, if anyone, from our family is available to take care of them. My younger brother works nights and sleeps during the day. If my son is sick tomorrow, he would likely go there and watch movies on the couch and nap (still waiting to hear from my bro). I just hope that he is healthy by tomorrow morning. Luckily we have a docvtor's appointment on Wednesday anyways.

Guess what??! My DH left for New York this morning, he's gone until tomorrow night and my son has a fever!! His legs are hurting to the point that he is walking like an old man (he's 7.5 years old). I'm worried about him and I'm worried about missing work again! Why, oh why does this only happen when DH leaves??!! Oh, did I mention that I lost my voice and have a bad cough. 3 kids, 2 days alone, 1 parent and 0 voice = HELL
---------------------------
I have had a horrible day and I am sitting here in tears.
I started a new job in November, I am still on probation. I was sick between Xmas and New Year's so I missed a day and a half of work, I got a stomach flu or something last Monday where I was vomiting and all that wonderful stuff so I missed another day. My boss was understanding and said no worries. Well, my husband, who can work from home when he needs to, has gone on a business trip for the week. I got a phone call right after lunch from my son's school and they said that he was sick. I picked him up and we went right to the doctor's. He has Strep throat. He got a prescription and the doctor said to keep him off school for 24 - 48 hours. I got a doctor's note to give to my boss.
I thought that I could "for sure" find someone to watch him tomorrow. Well, those who don't have kids can't watch him and those that do, don't want to because it's contagious. So I missed almost half a day today and now I need to miss tomorrow! I feel just awful and worried that they are going to fire me. I just don't know what to do.
I guess I'm just looking for some advice on how to deal with my boss...or some sympathy.
Thanks.
Emma
--------------------------------------------------------
I have written this email to my boss (I haven't sent it yet). Does it sound ok?
Hello *****,
I cannot to come into work tomorrow. I picked up my son from school and brought him straight to the hospital. He has strep throat and the doctor says that he must stay home for 24 to 48 hours as it is very contagious.
I am mortified that I am having to miss work again and I am truly sorry. My husband is away in Ireland on business. He can, on occasion, work from home so he would usually be the one that would stay at home. My children have not missed school once this year due to illness and it has now happened the first day that he is gone. I have tried all of my options for chilcare with no luck. All of our family is working and all of my options who have children have declined due to the risk of contamination.
I have attached a scan of my doctor's note and my son's prescription.
I cannot apologize enough and I am willing to take 30 minute lunches until the time is made up. I also have Illustrator on my computer and can help with artworks from home. Please let me know how I can make this up to the company.
Emma
------------------------------------------------
UPDATE:
This week couldn't get any better! My other son caught strep. I have to miss today as well. I'm going to get fired.
I went to work yesterday and all was good, it wasn't too busy so that made me feel better. My boss was not there and she will not be there until the 21st of Feb. as she is having surgery.
The only thing that could make this week any worse is if my daughter gets it too or she catches the stomach flu that has been going around her daycare this week.

My mother came over tonight and said that she heard about the accident at school. I was confused and she was surprised that I had not heard anything. My mother's co-worker's kids go to the before and after school daycare with my boys. On Monday, they were playing British Bulldog in the gym (I'm not sure what game this is) and my mother's co-worker's son (8 years old) stopped suddenly and my son (7 yrs old) ran into him and they fell over. The boy's two front teeth were broken.
I didn't hear anything about this from anyone, including the mother who I saw at the boy's hockey practice on Tuesday. She is really nice and didn't mention a thing. My mother told me tonight that the boy's father wants to sue us to pay for the teeth. The boy's mother (his ex-wife) has been arguing with him saying that he can't do that, that it was just an accident. The boy's dental bills are 90% covered by insurance.
Does this man have a leg to stand on? Can we really be sued for an accident that happened between two boys at school?
Thanks for any info, I'm a little bit concerned now.

I recently started a new job. It is a very small company with about 10 - 12 employees in the office. I sometimes go on the internet (which is permitted). What I want to know is:
- How much do they ("they" being my bosses) know about my internet usage?
- Can they read personal emails, say from my hotmail account?
- Can they tell when, the exact time, that I'm on a particular site?
- Can they view what is on my screen at any particular moment?
I'm not slacking off in any way, it's just that my co-worker told me to be careful what I type as they can view what is on our screens at any given moment. Really?
Thanks!

DH and I decided to buy a little less for each other this Xmas and instead buy a new TV as we still have one of the old style TVs. We just don't know where to begin. Plasma? LED? LCD? I don't want to go shopping without first doing some research. We are looking for a 45 - 50" TV. We are definitely buying from the Brick as we have a gift certificate there. Can anyone give me any recommendations?

I'm having a sad day...a little. It's my last day as a stay at home Mom. I'm going back to work much earlier than we had planned as an opportunity to work very close to home has come up. I live in a rural area so the graphic design / production artist jobs are few and far between. I did know that I wanted to work close to my kids school as DH works an hour away.
So many times I have hugged my babies, (especially Ava as I knew that school was still a while away) and have taken comfort in knowing that I never had to be away from them unless I chose to take a short break. I feel like the kids are being ripped out of my arms. It's really hard. I kept Kieran home today. Being a stay at home mother is so much a part of my identity, it's all really hard for me.
I am excited though and I really hope that I enjoy my new job.

I have made mac and cheese in the past, you know, the kind where you have to make a white sauce and stir in the cheese. I am always disappointed with it. Anyways, I just made this recipe and it's soooo good. I added chopped broccoli and red pepper to it and covered it with breadcrumbs mixed with melted butter. Here's the recipe:
* 2 cups elbow macaroni
* 2 1/2 quarts boiling water
* 1 tablespoon cooking oil (optional)
* 2 teaspoons salt
* 4 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
* 10 ounces condensed cream of mushroom soup
* 10 ounces sliced mushrooms, drained
* 1 cup finely chopped onion
* 3/4 cup salad dressing (like mayo or Miracle Whip)
* 1/4 cup finely chopped green pepper
* 1/4 cup finely chopped red pepper (or pimiento)
Directions:
1.In large uncovered saucepan, cook macaroni in boiling water, oil, and salt until tender but firm, about 5-7 minutes. Drain and return macaroni to pot.
2.Add remaining ingredients. Mix and pour into a greased 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.
3.Bake uncovered at 350F for 30-40 minutes.
4.Note: top with more grated cheddar if you wish, or melted butter mixed with dry bread crumbs.
I left out the mayo, it really didn't need it. I didn't use green pepper or sliced mushrooms either. I used about 700g of penne pasta, two cans of mushroom soup (you could use any kind of "cream of" soup), and a little more than 4 cups of cheese. This filled a 9" x 13" lasagna dish.
Enjoy!

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure this out. I am using this calculator.
Calculator I haven't been employed since 2004 and my DH works in Qc so I am trying to figure out exactly how much I will take home working in Ontario.
So I have 3 kids and I'm married so I would select "Spouse + 3 children" right?
My pay frequency would be weekly. I need to input "Deductions per pay period" and "Other Withholding per pay period". I am on my husband's insurance so I'm not sure what other deductions that I should input there.
I did the calculations with no deductions and the take home pay seems really high.
Thanks for any help.

I have been offered a job in my field. I was just starting out in my field when I got pregnant and then became a SAHM. I have been home for 7.5 years now. The job is perfect for me as it is so close to home and I live in a rural area so there are not many options. It is 5 minutes from the kids school and daycare. I had originally planned on going back full time when my daughter started school next September at the earliest. My 5 year old goes to school part-time so I would need full time care for my daughter, 2.5 days for my son and before and after school care for both boys.
I need to figure out if this is worth it for me. Right now, childcare for all three kids would be more than 50% of my take home pay. Is it stupid to go back for so little money? I am feeling some regret that we moved from Quebec and their 7$/day daycare. Maybe I should just look into taking kids into my home until my kids are in school or maybe I should get a waitressing job or something. I don't know what to do.

51-Year-Old Lost/Green Mile Actor Marries 16-Year-OldWe've just learned that 51-year-old Lost/The Green Mile actor Doug Hutchison has married high-school student aspiring country singer Courtney Alexis Stodden In Vegas last month.
Here's what the "couple" had to say about the marriage through their spokeswoman:
"We're aware that our vast age difference is extremely controversial, but we're very much in love and want to get the message out there that true love can be ageless."
The idea that true love can be ageless is certainly a nice concept IN THEORY, but we have a lot of trouble believing this is legalAND somehow the age difference here just seems WRONG!
If she were 33 and he were 68, maybe it would seem a little more acceptablebut at their current ages, it doesn't sit well with us.

My best friend is having a really hard time right now. She had breast cancer last year, a double mastectomy, chemo, and reconstructive surgery. She has two demanding young daughters. She's in an emotionally abusive relationship with an alcoholic and she lives an 11 hour drive from her friends and family. To top it all off, she is now very depressed and her wonderful husband does not want her on meds or for her to see a therapist. He controls all of the finances and she is afraid to leave him as she will be stuck in the US all alone as she would not be allowed to leave the state with the kids. Her family and myself convinced her to get the meds without telling him. She just started the medication so we are hoping that it works.
I am really worried about her. She started avoiding phone calls so I told her off and she seems to be picking the phone up more often. I try to speak to her every single day to check that she's ok. I was hoping that maybe, if I showed her that other young women have come though it, that she would see some hope.
Thank you,

I think it's the parent's responsibility to watch their child but, you can't watch a child every second. It only takes a second to start a dishwasher. I think that, if it was going to upset the dishwasher owners so much, they should have also taken steps to make sure that the child couldn't access the dishwasher. Especially given that this happened once before.

Wow! Some of you ladies have been through some major ordeals!
The worst illness that I have had was strep throat when my two boys were small. I couldn't do anything but lie down and I cried every time I had to swallow my saliva. I have had a lot of tonsillitis and sore throats in my life but this case of strep was unbearable.
I also had kidney stones when I was 36 weeks pregnant with my first. I thought that I might be in labor. I spent the night in hospital throwing up from the pain. It took hours for them to give me something for the pain. The next morning they did an ultrasound to make sure that the stones had passed and discovered that my baby was breech. I ended up having a c-section.
I also had a spider bite on my foot when I was about 20. It hurt so badly that any movement of any part of my body that made my foot so much as vibrate was agony.

Even though I have been hired for a work from home job, I am keeping my options open as it's not really the type of work that I was looking for.
So, I went for the interview this morning. The woman interviewing me was really nice and I am pretty sure that I have the job if I want it. She told me that they have had a hard time finding someone. She asked me if I would be willing to go in for a day to try out the position.
The money is not great so it definitely wouldn't be worth it to put my three kids in daycare to go and work there full time.
She gave me a copy of the full job description and it says:
Job Location: The location of this role will be outlined separately (what does that mean?). The possibility of working remotely from time to time would be based on management and/or supervisor guidelines.
I'm not sure what to do next. Call her? Email her? It seems like I could manage 17 or 18 hours in the office at the moment. I could work evening hours outside of the home when my husband is not traveling too. I could definitely do a lot from home. I am terrible at this sort of thing.

Negotiating FT position to PT + work at home?

I am currently looking for a job, a part time or work from home position. I am a stay at home mother and don't intend on going back full time until next September at the earliest. I am trying to slowly get my foot back in the workforce. I live in a small town and I really want to work close to home for my children as my DH works an hour away. There are a few companies where I could apply for work as a graphic designer or web designer.
I recently came across a position that suits me perfectly but it says that it is a full time position. My DH is telling me that it doesn't matter, just get an interview and then discuss the possible options. The company website says that they are a flexible team working around the clock 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to meet workload demands.
My DH has so much confidence, this type of thing is easy for him. I am more shy and less confident especially that I have not worked outside of the home since 2004 (although I have done some freelance work over the past few years). It's also hard because I do have three young children and DH travels for work quite often.
I need some advice on negotiating this. I have been called for an interview. I sent my resume at night and they called first thing the next morning, I also Googled the position and the posting shows up in the results but it says that the posting has expired or has been removed from every result that I click on. The company is located on the outskirts of a very small town, not a very large population. This leads me to believe that they cannot find anyone. Maybe I'm wrong.
Am I just wasting their time by going in if I have no intention of taking a full time job? Can anyone give me any advice? DH makes it sound so easy, I feel REALLY nervous.
