Some of you are clearly not all that familiar with 8 year old boys. You could dress them in a tux and 5 minutes later they'll be a dishevelled mess. There is a reason that the definition of boy is "noise with dirt on it".
At the age of 8, most parents are trying to foster some independence in their children, and if that means allowing their child the freedom to decide how he is going to get up and ready for school on time, then I say good for them! They are well on their way to ensuring that they don't have to coddle their kid out the door everyday until he moves out.
Personally, I hope my son doesn't choose this method, but of all the child rearing oddities that you could have chosen to judge, this one seems a little pointless.

I had an anterior placenta with both pregnancies and both babies were posterior but turned during labour. Both labours were also only 6 hours and once baby turned everything moved very quickly!I had some problem with hemoraging after my DD, but I believe that was mostly due to her size and how quickly she arrived.
As Airborne_mama said, I think that the babies positioning was related to my placenta as no amount on time on my hands and knees would get either of my LO's to turn!

Have you tried it? Bacon and chocolate is actually an amazing combination of salty and sweet. For my brother's birthday this year I made him a chocolate cake with maple frosting and bacon. It was truly amazing. I do have to say that the trend is being taken a bit too far, but in some applications I think it is great!

Tanky what are her shop policies regarding shipping?
If she shipped the package within her store policies, then really it isn't her fault that USPS took longer to deliver the package then their standard lays out. If that is the case I would not be leaving negative feedback as unfortunately as a seller you are sometimes at the mercy of the postal service.
However, if she didn't ship within her the time frame laid out by her store policy, and this was the cause of you not recieving your package on time then I would definitely leave negative feedback.

Trops I had one for a while and I hated the thing. Pretty sure I got it at TRU or Superstore (all the same brand though). The quality was pretty crappy and for some reason they all came with a neon yellow strip on them that was not too pretty. My SIL has one from IKEA that hangs from the roof and looks like a tube with holes in it.
Similar to this:

It worked really well and looked pretty cute.

I used to use a very large tacklebox (I have a lot of makeup!) because I found that it was awesome how when you opened it, you could see everything laid out nicely. The small compartments are awesome for holding eyeshadow, especially the Mac sized compacts.
I now have a train case (a large metal makeup case) and it works exactly the same as the tacklebox, but it is prettier!

I am really lucky that I have never had to battle my weight, but my husband comes from a long line of very overweight (some are morbidly obese) family who have a very unhealthy relationship with food. It seems to be a never ending cycle in his family, one that I hope to end.
A lot of DH's habits changed when we began living together and he is now a really healthy weight, however, he will always have to be conscious of what he eats.
Both of us hope that the cycle of obesity ends with H, I don't ever want to have to watch him be teased, be self conscious, or worry about his body. It is something that I especially am very consciouse of. For instance, I noticed that in order for DH to justify having junk food he would share it with H. I had a major issue with this as I don't see it promoting healthy eating habits.
I beleive that my responsibility as a parent is to promote healthy eating habits and to encourage an active lifestyle. If I can do these things then it will be up to him to make good choices as he gets older.
(Just want to add that I am in no way saying that all obesity is related to eating habits and activity, I realize it is a much more complex issue then this)

I am so surprised at this thread.
I understand that people find impolite kids, or teenagers that ring the bell late or don't dress up annoying. But seriously, now we are going to put a minimum age limit on this holiday?
We took DS out and it had nothing to do with the candy. Yes, he did get some, and yes, I will likely eat most of it. However, it was about experiencing the holiday with his family. It was about getting to participate with the "big" kids. It was about the fun of dressing up. You know, all those things the holiday is supposed to be about! This holiday didn't start out as a candy grab, commercialism has created this trend, and yet some of you seem to begrudge some of us parents that are actually trying to celebrate the real aspect of the holiday.
This was the first Halloween in 20 year that my parents have had trick or treaters (they just recently moved into town). And to watch the two of them run to the door and make a big fuss over every single child that came to their door was one of the best part of the nights. They enjoyed the holiday for what it is meant to be, and didn't begrudge the odd candy bar that went to a teenager or a baby.
I think the lesson here is that if you find Halloween "annoying", don't turn on your porch light! This is not a mandatory holiday people!

And for the record, I am sitting here eating his candy right now! I may share a few pieces tomorrow.

Milk doesn't seize the chocolate if it is warmed first. That is actually how you make chocolate ganash (sp?), heat the milk or cream and pour it over finely chopped chocolate, stir until everything is melted and smooth and then dip! It is how I make my famouse chocolate covered strawberries, so I assume it would work with banana's as well.

People are we asking what a vegetable is, or what would constitute a healthy serving of vegetables? Because they are two very different things.
As for the cooking method, baking retains much of the nutrients, as does steaming. Boiling and braising tend to leach nutrients out of the vegetables.
While some vegetables may be starchy, that doesn't mean that they are bad for you. Sweet Potatoes are a starchy vegetable, but they are also a super food. So I think that super food outweighs the starchiness.
And on the topic of sauerkraut, back in the day when people didn't have fridges, freezers etc, sauerkraut was a great way to preserve cabbage and ensure that there would be a healthy source of vitamins throughout the winter.

I personally don't like the idea of an "injected" apple, or fruit with an ingredient list, mostly because it just seems to counteract the act of eatting fruit in the first place. Although if I see this thing in the store I may just have to try it "just because'!

However, the purple cauliflower I bought the other day frightened me a little but I couldn't resist!

Okay, so while I think that boycotting, facebook groups and a letter writing campaign are perhaps excessive, I agree with the OP.
Charge for the cup, sure, but $1.65 for hot water? It doesn't even sound like she was offered the tea bag!
I also don't see how asking for hot water is expecting someone to assist you in feeding your child. It's water people.
Christ, I asked for water at Starbucks once (for my SIL to heat the baby's bottle) and the woman knew exactly what cup and how much water to put in it and asked me what temperature I would like my water heated too! No charge!
And lets be honest here people, during the day, who are the vast majority of customers at a coffee shop. Moms and Babies. Don't you think it might actually be a good business decision to be slightly accomodating?

Totally you snooze you lose!
I had a similar situation the other day when a lady was standing in between the two lineups (we were at Michaels) obviously waiting to see which one was going to free up first. I asked her which line up she was in (so that I could join the other one and stop blocking the aisle) and she got all huffy with me! Since when do you get to start your own line to wait for the quickest till? It is luck of the draw if you pick the fastest one, sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you get screwed!

We had really bad windstorms a few years ago and were out of power for 3 days. All of the meat in our freezer stayed frozen (we didn't open the doors) and our fridge remained pretty darn cold as well. After 24 hours, if meat and dairy was cold to the touch I would keep it. I just wanted to weigh in on Lone Tree Hill, I grew up a block from there so I have climed the hill a number of times. It is pretty much straight up, but it really isn't a bad climb. It is also only about 20 minutes, and has such an amazing view from the top that it is totally worth it!!

So the
Mis-using Formula thread has had me thinking about how I can help some of these families that need to get formula from food banks, shelters etc.
I have a small home-based crafting business and until the end of June, I am going to donate 10% of all of my proceeds to the local food bank to purchase formula. I am also encouraging all of my friends and family to either donate a can of formula, or cash to their local food bank or shelter. Everyone is going to let me know if they donate so that at the end of June I can let everyone know how much we raised.
I know some of the moms on here were planning to donate as well, so it sparked an idea to have a WB Formula Drive.
If you are interested in participating, please make a donation of cash or formula to your local food bank or shelter and then let me know. At the end of June I will tally it all up and let everyone know how much we as a group donated.
Please encourage your friends and family to help you out as well!
