My first step is always to tell them, before we go, what I expect (ie. mommy expects you to stay with me, and if I say we go here - then you need to follow - if not your going in the cart)
My next step, if they aren't listening is to give them one chance and remind them of the consequence....if that doesn't work - I pick them up and put them in the cart or we leave.

I think it really depends.
If your only going to go 1x then I would wait till they are 8-10 yrs old.
If you think you will go back, then I think experiencing the magic of it through a young child is amazing. ODS was 3.5 when we went to disneyworld and it was perfect. We will go back again in 2-3 yrs so his brother can enjoy it..
As for rides - there are very few that have height restrictions on them (at disneyworld - not sure about disneyland)

I highly suggest staying onsite - especially if you have young kids (makes it easy to head back to the hotel for a quick nap) They have value resorts which would be the cheapest option.
You can have groceries delivered to your hotel (
www.gardengrocer.com) and that can save you money on food drinks (order a case of water and some cracker packs, Peanut butter, bread etc - you can pack a small lunch) as long as your not bringing in a cooler full of food, disney won't say anything (I always carried a sandwhich, some muffins (brought them with us) and a baggie of gold fish in case my son got hungry waiting in line, or between reservations)
Make your dining reservations as early as possible (I think 180 days in advance) cause thye book up fast (it is nearly impossible to get a table at a sit down restaurant without a ressy - unless you go completely off meal times)
Check out
www.disneymagic.ca (it's run by WB members and is for canadians) they have a forum as well where you can ask questions

that sounds exactly how my ODS was at that age. time outs never worked with him; I don't really have any advice - most ppl that witnessed his outbursts agreed that while it was normal, it was on the extreme side.
That said, he only acted that way with us - never with his nursery school teachers or other adults we saw...just my husband, my mom and myself

After ODS, hubby was positive he was done with 1. I told him I was keeping everything for 5 yrs. If at that point we hadn't had another baby, I would get rid of it. (although I had sold off the jumper, playmat and a few other small things as he stopped using them)
When he was 2yrs 3mths, hubby changed his mind and we had another...so I was glad I kept it all. Buying the few things I had sold wasn't a huge cost, and I bought them all 2nd hand

I don't see any cons to having kids....yes, there are "downfalls" I guess, but I don't see them as cons.
I think that children enrich the lives of those around them; they have so much love to give, and I have learned so much from THEM.
I can't really imagine not having children in my life...

price match
make your meal plan based on whats on sale. Write down where it is on sale, bring your fliers with you and then price match. You can do one stop shopping and still take advantage of all the sales (I think most stores do this, I know superstore does)
If you cut out meat 1 or 2 nights and make a pasta or veggie meal, it helps to save too.

We don't restrict it either. YDS doesn't really seem interested - the odd time he might pay attention for 5 minutes, and then on to something else.
ODS, he watches a lot more in the winter, cause it's cold and I hate to be outside. In the spring/summer/fall - we tend to spend 4-5 hours outside (basically from after lunch until supper).
He is very active, loves to read books, play board games, creative play with dino's, cars, trains etc so I am not overly concerned. I haven't noticed any behavioural differences between tv days and no tv days either

I agree with Lastone - it sounds to me like she isn't ready.
I am a true believer that when kids are REALLY ready to train, it doesn't take long.
I tried 2 or 3 times with no success with ODS. The last time we tried, he got it by day the middle of day 2, and accidents were extremely minimal.
I would also put her back in diapers, and just let her know that the potty is there should she want to use it. Wait a few months and try again.

I agree with you in the fact that the consequence already happened, he lost his sleepover this past weekend.
But, if your mom is saying that it's too much for her to handle, then I think you need to respect that. It isn't fair to her OR to him to have him there if she can't deal with him no matter what his moods are.
I do not understand the withholding affection - it is so foreign to me. Even when I am completely upset with my kids, I could never do that to them
