There is always going to be a nicer dress if you keep looking.
You really have to pick one and stop looking.

The guy who is selling the house is an electrician and he gave us some options, and one will be very cheap if hydro agrees, the other ones would be pretty expensive...
Oh well I guess we will know on may 31, that's when hydro comes to check it out... Stay tuned!

Has anyone ever had to get an hydro line moved?
We are moving into an older neighborhood at the end of the month and there is an hydro line crossing our backyard from one corner of the lot (hydro pole) to the middle of the house, making it impossible to get a pool unless we move the hydro line.
When DH called hydro, they put us in contact with one of their guys who actually went to check it out (from the road only, while he was in the neighborhood...) and he said that they would most likely be able to move it to the other pole and it would leave us enough space for a pool.. so we went ahead and gave a deposit on a pool.
The hydro guy was supposed to come and see the house with us this week end and give us our options (move to the other pole, move the cables underground, etc..) and then we would decide what we want, and book the service call for when we move in, etc..
DH called the guy today to confirm the appointment and apparently he was all "buddy, i don't work week end.. oh and I'll tell you what needs to be done, but you need to get your own electrician to do it..etc..etc.."
So now we had to re-book the meeting with the hydro guy for when we are moved in, and delay the installation of the pool.
Is it just me, or it's very unlikely that regular electrician are allowed to go up a hydro pole and mess with the cables?!
If you ever had hydro lines moved, who did it? (hydro or electrician..), how much did it cost? how long did it take?
Thanks ladies!

If they are going to make your life/wedding a living hell and bad mouth you to whoever wants to hear it, then suck it up..
but if you have a good relationship with them, then just go back and say, you know what, you caught us by surprise, we had to cut family, it doesnt feel right to invite somebody elses distant cousin..
I would think about my own family that did not make the cut, how do you think they would feel if they find out that 2 random guys were invited, but they were not?

I cant remember the name fo the white we used when we painted the baseboard fo the condo when we listed, but the white the builder used was a "cloudy" white and we used a "true" white and wow did it ever mke a difference, it looked sharper / cleaner / more modern.

Can someone explain PODS to me?
We are getting outrageous quotes from movers and someone suggested we get a pod instead.
How does it work?
I went on their website and was quoted about 500$ (200ish at delivery and 300ish at pick up..) and we get the pod for a month.
But let say I get the pod on may 15.. I move on May 30, and would like the pod for let say a week or so after that.. is there an extra charge for the "mid month" move of the pod?
If you used PODS, did you like it? was it convenient?
Thanks!:)

You could put your drying mat on that little "box" by the stove.. it's useles space anyway..

Wow you girls are intense!

I will make sure to keep an eye on this thread

We have been living in a condo for a couple years and just bought a single.
when we bought there was still a lot of snow on the ground, so we aren't sure what the landscaping looks like.. but the front was apparently professionally done a couple years ago, so i'm thinking we will just need to maintain it and add to it over the years.
The backyard is pretty much a blank canvas.
The deck is in good shape, but needs railing (they removed it for some reason?!)
We are getting a pool, but wont be doing any landscaping around it this year.
There is also a big shed in the backyard. it has a poured concrete foundation and it;s own electrical panel, and I "think" there is a gas line and waterline as well.
We are thinking of finishing part of it as a "pool house" in the next few years (outdoor shower/bathroom/change room, some seating..ect..
This year we will just finish the outside (siding, but maybe some decorative stones..depending on the budget!)
So yeah, this year, pool, deck railing (pool deck is there is any money left in my piggy bank) and siding on the "pool house"
Has anybody installed deck railing? is it hard?
*sighs* i cannot wait to move and get started

Im from Quebec, but now living in Ontario/got married in Ontario and changed my name.
My mom changed her name legally when she got married, and it was a crazy mess when my parents divorced as she had to change her name legally and beleive it or not, the judge didnt let her?! She had to appeal his decision to get her maiden name back.
so for like 3 years after the seperation, she still had to use my dad's last name.
I dont really agree with that legislation, I think everybody should be allowed to if they want.
Im glad I was able to change my name, but at the same time, it;s not legally changed, so if ever, god forbid, we divorce, i can just go on with my life and take back my maiden name.

We just sold our condo privately.
For the selling portion, you only have to pay legal fees.
The land transfer tax mentionned above is only paid when you buy a house.
For the purchase of your new house (if applicable..)
-down payment
-mortgage penalty if applicable
-legal fees
-land transfer tax
-property taxes/utilities that the seller might have pre-paid
I think thats pretty much it.

We made a decision on the washer/dryer, but now, where to buy?
We found a good deal at Brault&Martineau in Gatineau (dryers are half price when you buy the pair, so we would be saving 500$), but they only deliver in Munster once ever 2 weeks, which means we would be without a washer/dryer for over a week (I guess i could always go to the laundrymat once or twice..)
I think Leon's could match the price, but I cannot stand their salesperson.
So, my question is.. Are there any other company that will pricematch and deliver for free?

We sold through Grapevine, and were not on MLS, so it;s a bit different. (i think grapevine is an ottawa thing..?)
We listed in October and only sold last week (firm date is actually April 4...!)
We got many low ball offered that we refused.
I do think that we listed at the wrong time of year (fall) and that we were a tad overpriced, but at the same time, we were in no rush to sell as we did not find a new house at that point, and once we did find a house, we reduced the price and sold in 1 day. Even if we lowered the price and accepted an offer for even less, we still ended up with more money in our pocket than if we went with an agent and sold for full asking price.
If you are in a rush to sell, an agent is probably the way to go. But if you have time, then I would sell on your own.
It's a lot of work, you do your own open houses, the staging and everything... even doing the paperwork is kind of a pain..
but in the end, we saved 12K, that's what matters:)
I agree with paper bag princess, it also depends on your market... I dont know how the market is in Sudbury..
